Laid off from Accenture.

Accenture's CEO said the quiet part in an earnings call, the firm is exiting people where "reskilling, based on our experience, is not a viable path for the skills we need." The program has a name, a budget line, and a compressed timeline, her words.

Recent Accenture layoffs

The newest filing on record is 54 jobs in Atlanta

Accenture's most recent US layoff filing in our tracker is a Georgia notice covering 54 jobs at its Piedmont Road building in Atlanta, effective June 8, 2026 or within the 14 days after that. The company gave the reason as a change in client contract requirements and said the building itself stays open. The business optimization program behind the 2025 headlines had closed months earlier, at $923 million, including $628 million of employee severance.

Accenture layoff history

Accenture's business optimization program is over, and the company has filed what it actually cost. The final total came to $923 million, of which $628 million was employee severance, with the remaining $295 million written off mostly against two acquisitions it decided to sell. When it announced the program in September 2025, Accenture put the six-month figure at about $865 million. That's about $58 million more than the estimate it gave at the start, and the $628 million severance line inside the total is the part that matters if you were one of the people it paid for.

What Accenture hasn't published is how many people that $628 million covered. The figures in circulation, 11,000 in a quarter and about 22,000 across the year, are differences between headcounts the company reported on different dates, 801,099 in February 2025 and 779,273 that August. A gap like that nets everyone who left for any reason against everyone hired in the same months. One report described more than 11,000 people laid off and, two sentences later, the same 791,000 to 779,000 move the number came from. So the count that would tell you how many colleagues went with you appears nowhere in what Accenture filed.

The US filing record is thin for a company this size. Our tracker holds 28 all-time Accenture filings, and 3 covering 210 jobs since the start of 2025, spread across Georgia, Nebraska, and New Jersey. The largest single entry is 85 jobs in Omaha in May 2025, then 71 in Morristown, New Jersey that August, and 54 in Atlanta in June 2026. Set against a workforce near 800,000 those are small numbers, and they're the only site-level public record of this company's US cuts that we track.

The Atlanta notice is worth reading closely if you were handed something like it. Accenture told Georgia the 54 jobs would end on June 8, 2026 or within the 14 days after that, gave the reason as a change in client contract requirements, and said the building itself stays open. The same notice said the company would pay wages and benefits through each person's termination date, and that anyone who won another Accenture role during the notice period wouldn't be terminated. Pay running to a termination date is notice-period pay rather than severance, and separating the two tells you what you were actually offered.

Accenture has done this before, and the 2023 round shows how it books a program of this kind. In March 2023 it said it would cut about 19,000 roles, roughly 2.5% of a 738,000 person workforce, over half of them in non-billable corporate functions. It estimated $1.2 billion for severance and $300 million for consolidating office space across that program. Neither round has individual terms on record, so the only numbers anyone can quote are company-wide totals, and the document that decides what you get is the agreement you were handed. If a filing covered your site, our WARN index will have it, and your state page carries the rules that attach to it.

How Accenture's layoffs compare to other companies

Every consultancy talks about AI transformation. Accenture put the exits into its own filings and its CEO's own words, a named program on a compressed timeline for the people it judged couldn't be reskilled for the skills it wanted.

What to do after being laid off from Accenture

  1. File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Accenture's biggest hubs: Georgia, Nebraska, New Jersey. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
  2. Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Accenture's hub states run: Georgia, Nebraska, New Jersey, and every other state is here.
  3. Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
  4. Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
  5. Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

Accenture layoff and severance questions

Why is Accenture laying people off while hiring for AI roles?

Accenture announced both on the same day. Julie Sweet said over 550,000 of its people were already trained in the fundamentals of generative AI, and described exiting on a compressed timeline the people where "reskilling, based on our experience, is not a viable path for the skills we need." Alongside that, the company said it expected to keep hiring and to increase its overall employee count in fiscal 2026, including in the US and Europe. It named upskilling its primary focus, with the exits and further operating efficiencies set out after it.

What severance does Accenture pay in the restructuring?

Not published per person. Accenture recorded $923 million for the program, $628 million of it employee severance. It published no count of the people it exited and no individual terms in the record we track, so the disclosed figures can't produce a per-person average anyone could defend. What you were offered is set by your own agreement, and that document is the one to read.

How many people did Accenture actually lay off?

No count appears on record. The 11,000 and 22,000 figures in circulation are differences between headcounts Accenture reported on different dates, 801,099 in February 2025 and 779,273 that August. A gap like that nets everyone who left for any reason against everyone hired in the same months, so it isn't a layoff count and was never published as one.

Is Accenture still cutting jobs in 2026?

The business optimization program closed in the quarter that ended November 30, 2025. Since then our tracker holds one Accenture filing, the 54 jobs in Atlanta effective June 2026. Accenture's reported workforce grew to about 799,000 by the end of May 2026, up from 779,000 the previous August, so the company came out of the program larger than it went in.

Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Accenture?

In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Accenture's biggest U.S. hubs are Georgia, Nebraska, New Jersey. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.

Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Accenture?

Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.

What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Accenture?

Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.

Should I sign the severance agreement right away?

First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Accenture?

Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
