The newest filings from Ahold Delhaize USA's chains in our WARN tracker belong to The Giant Company, three Pennsylvania filings with layoff dates from February to April 2026, the last for 105 jobs in Montgomery County. The Philadelphia one, for 128 jobs, was among six Giant e-commerce closings that Supply Chain Dive reported in December 2025.

What Ahold Delhaize USA layoffs have meant for employees

Giant Food began running its Manassas, Virginia center in May 2023 to expand delivery and set it to close less than four months later, according to Grocery Dive, while The Giant Company had promoted its Lancaster center in 2018 as a quick way to build online capacity, Supply Chain Dive noted when that center's closing was announced. The wareroom closings Stop & Shop announced in 2025 were part of a broader push to have store associates fill online orders instead of dedicated centers, Grocery Dive wrote in its 2025 report on the warerooms, which also put the share of the company's U.S. online business handled by third parties such as DoorDash and Instacart at about 40%. If you're offered a store role in place of a fulfillment job, its hours, its duties and its pay are worth setting beside the job you're leaving.

When The Giant Company set its Center City Heirloom Market in Philadelphia to close in December 2024, it told PhillyVoice that staff would be offered positions with the same pay and benefits at other city stores. The reports of Stop & Shop's 2024 store closings in TODAY, of Hannaford's Marlborough closing in CBS News Boston and of the six Giant centers in Supply Chain Dive relay offers of other jobs or roles and say nothing of severance. If an offer you're considering names a store but leaves out the pay or the benefits, those terms in writing would make it easier to weigh.

What happens to the staff when a store changes hands or banners has varied. When Delhaize America announced its 2012 closings, it said most associates at the stores it was converting to Food Lion would keep working there, the Salisbury Post reported. For the Richmond Martin's stores sold to Publix after the Ahold and Delhaize merger, Martin's said in 2016 that the stores would likely stay closed for six to 12 months while Publix remodeled them, NBC12 reported, and the last nine Martin's in the area, which Supermarket News said it had spent nearly a year trying to sell, were set to close in the summer of 2017. If your store is being sold rather than closed, what the buyer plans for the building is worth weighing alongside what the seller offers.

The day a store closes and the day its jobs end can be different dates. At Hannaford's Marlborough store, CBS News Boston reported, the last day of business came before the date the notice gave for the jobs. Martin's told Richmond workers in 2016 that its closing dates could still slip. If you're given a closing date, the store's last day and your own last day on the payroll are worth tracking as two separate dates.

Of the 73 filings our WARN tracker ties to these chains since 2000, only the New Jersey e-commerce ones carry the Ahold name, and the rest were made under names such as Food Lion, Stop & Shop, Martin's, Giant Delivers, Hannaford, The Giant Company and Peapod, with Virginia and Tennessee holding most of them. If your site's closing drew a notice, it's likeliest to sit under the chain's own name. In Massachusetts, Hannaford pointed Marlborough workers who needed more help to the MassHire Rapid Response team, its spokesperson said in the same CBS News Boston report. For a claim, Virginia unemployment benefits, Pennsylvania unemployment benefits, Maryland unemployment benefits, New Jersey unemployment benefits and Massachusetts unemployment benefits lay out how filing works in five of the states where these chains have filed notices.
