Laid off from Bechtel.

Since 2023, Bechtel's layoffs on record have followed its projects, as a site's work wound down or a client's plans changed. Its letters to Florida and Virginia in 2025 and 2026 described a search for other assignments, and said the layoffs would be permanent for anyone it couldn't place.

What we know about Bechtel severance and layoffs

  • 200 Reston positions in Bechtel's September 2026 notice to Virginia
  • 248 Kennedy Space Center jobs on Bechtel National's Florida notice for Mobile Launcher 2
  • 536 Vogtle nuclear project jobs in Bechtel Power's 2023 Georgia notice
  • About 170 Blue Grass plant workers in a layoff Bechtel expected for March 2025
  • 233 jobs across the two Bechtel-named notices filed in 2026, in Virginia and Kentucky
  • 1,500 people affected by the Blue Grass plant's closure, the Labor Department estimated

The most recent Bechtel layoff we've found

Bechtel's people would move to other nuclear projects across the company, a spokeswoman told World Nuclear News in September 2026, and Bechtel said it would stay in Kemmerer, Wyoming, to finish the Natrium plant's Sodium Test & Fill Facility. TerraPower said it would rebid the construction contract.

What Bechtel layoffs have meant for employees

At Kennedy Space Center the cuts were scheduled in installments. Bechtel National's first WARN letter to Florida put 60 positions in a phase running through February 2026, and later letters added people with separation dates of their own, as late as July. If you work on a Bechtel job that's winding down, the date on a colleague's letter may not be yours, and an early count can sit well below where a site ends up.

Those letters also set out where people stood. The Florida ones said the affected staff had no union representation and no bumping rights, and Virginia Business reported the same two points from the Reston letter. The Florida letters also offered a list of the job titles and counts affected on request, which is one way to see whether your role is in a cut. If Bechtel offers you another assignment, the site, the start date and how long that work is expected to last are fair things to have in writing before you decide.

In Reston, the notice covered staff supporting TerraPower's Natrium plant in Wyoming. A Bechtel spokeswoman said the company expected to redeploy many of them to projects that need their skills, including nuclear plants it's building around the world, and that it had recently expanded its lease after "a year of record new work." If you're on that team and a move is on offer, where the new project is and how long it's expected to run are worth weighing alongside the job itself.

The wording of the Kennedy letters changed over the months. The first one tied the cuts to the project's progress, called them "normal planned reductions" and expected Bechtel's work at the site to end by July 2027. From March 2026 the letters described Bechtel "winding down its work" on the project, and NASA, separately, said in a revised Artemis plan that it was no longer planning to use Mobile Launcher 2, the Orlando Sentinel reported. In Wyoming, Bechtel said its work had been done "under an earlier phase of the contract," before the two companies decided to go separate ways, World Nuclear News reported. If you've had an early Bechtel letter and the project's plans have since changed, whether the dates in it still stand is a question worth putting to Bechtel.

At Blue Grass, where the whole plant is closing, the help on record has pointed outward. At a March 2025 meeting covered by WEKU, Bechtel's project manager there said the team was hosting job fairs and had met with the city of Louisville and Los Alamos National Laboratory about workers looking for jobs. The Labor Department awarded a $2 million grant in June 2025 for retraining through the Bluegrass Area Development District, Madison County among the counties it serves, for people affected by layoffs at the plant and at Yokohama Industries Americas. Over half the site's employees were hired locally, Bechtel's project page says, and it puts final site closure in 2027. If you were at Blue Grass, retraining after a layoff has more on what that kind of program can pay for.

Bechtel's recent notices went in under the name of the unit running each job, Bechtel Power for Reston, Bechtel National at Kennedy Space Center and the Blue Grass venture's own name in Madison County, and those are the names to look under in our WARN tracker. There's more on claiming unemployment in those three states at Virginia unemployment benefits, Florida unemployment benefits and Kentucky unemployment benefits.

A sourced history of Bechtel layoffs

  • September 2026, Reston notice after the TerraPower split

Bechtel told Virginia, Virginia Business reported, that about 200 Reston positions could be affected from around November 16, after it and TerraPower couldn't agree on the Natrium project's next phase. A spokeswoman predicted "few, if any" actual layoffs.

  • November 2025 to April 2026, Mobile Launcher 2 wind-down

Phases of the Mobile Launcher 2 work at Kennedy Space Center were finishing, Bechtel National's WARN letters to Florida said in November 2025, with cuts from January 16. From March 2026 they described a wind-down, with separations planned into July.

  • March 2025 to January 2026, Blue Grass plant closure

Bechtel expected another layoff of about 170 workers at the Kentucky plant in March 2025, WEKU reported, two years after its weapons were destroyed. Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass filed a 33-job notice there in January 2026, per our WARN tracker.

  • April 2023, Vogtle reactor project layoffs in Waynesboro, Georgia

Citing "the plant completion" at the Vogtle Units 3 and 4 project, Bechtel Power listed 536 employees, from field engineers to HR, in a permanent reduction, Georgia's WARN record shows, with separations expected from April 14 to June 30.

  • March 2014, Silver Line phase one layoffs

Finishing the Silver Line's first phase, Bechtel planned 117 layoffs at its Bechtel Infrastructure unit in phases from July 26, Patch reported, and told the Washington Business Journal it hoped to move as many as possible to other projects.

What to do if you're laid off from Bechtel

Bechtel layoff and severance questions

What severance has Bechtel given laid-off employees?

No severance figure or formula appears in Bechtel National's Florida WARN letters, Georgia's record of the Vogtle notice or Virginia Business's account of the Reston letter. What the letters do say is that the people affected weren't union-represented, had no bumping rights and would be laid off for good if Bechtel found them no next assignment. If your Bechtel assignment is ending, two answers are worth having in writing, whether a severance plan covers your role and what declining another assignment would mean for it.

How many layoff notices has Bechtel filed in 2026?

Two Bechtel-named notices dated 2026 are in our WARN tracker, covering 233 jobs, 200 at the Reston headquarters and 33 from Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass in Kentucky. The Reston figure counts positions that could be affected, and Bechtel's letter, as Virginia Business reported it, said other assignments may lower that number. Kennedy Space Center's 2026 separations were scheduled under Bechtel National's 2025 notice, through WARN letters to Florida setting dates into July.

Did Bechtel file a WARN notice for Sabine Pass LNG workers in 2025?

A former Bechtel operator alleged in court that it gave none. His complaint, filed in July 2025 as a proposed class action, said he and about 800 coworkers at the Sabine Pass LNG plant were called into a lunch tent and let go on or about June 20 without written notice, after about 1,000 others had been cut. He dismissed the suit nine days after filing it, Bloomberg Law reported, and no Bechtel notice from Texas dated after 2014 is in our WARN tracker.

Is Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass part of Bechtel?

It's a joint venture of Bechtel National and Parsons Government Services, according to Bechtel's Blue Grass project page, and Bechtel led the team that destroyed the stockpile there. If you worked at the plant and are looking for a notice, it may be under another employer's name. Battelle and Amentum had filed their own by March 2025, WEKU reported, and Parsons Corporation and Battelle notices for Madison County dated from December 2025 are in our WARN tracker.
