Laid off from Cencora.
Cencora has gone by that name only since 2023. In its AmerisourceBergen years some of its cuts left state notices naming a site and a headcount; lately they surface as dollar totals in its filings, which leaves laid-off workers with little public record to measure their own layoff against.

The most recent Cencora layoff we've found

What Cencora layoffs have meant for employees
Being cut from a company with more than 51,000 people can feel like vanishing into a rounding error, and it's a rotten way to lose a living. Cencora's 2025 annual report carries a line for restructuring and employee severance in each of fiscal 2023, 2024 and 2025, mainly for workforce reductions in both of its reporting segments, with facility closures under an office optimization plan folded into the 2024 total. The quarterly total rose in 2026, when the costs Cencora recorded for April to June came to nearly four times those of the same stretch of 2025, according to its June 2026 quarterly report.
The state notices that do exist mostly carry other names. Fourteen of the 15 filings in our WARN tracker dated 2016 to 2020 were made under a unit's name, H.D. Smith, PharMEDium, World Courier Ground or MWI Animal Health, sometimes with AmerisourceBergen's attached, rather than under AmerisourceBergen alone, as Cencora was called until its August 2023 name change. H.D. Smith's six came from five states between December 2018 and June 2019. PharMEDium's name is on six more, including a 440-job Tennessee filing from January 2019, a year before the January 2020 8-K announced that AmerisourceBergen would exit the business entirely. The one exception was AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation's own 2019 notice for Valencia, California. If you worked for H.D. Smith, PharMEDium, World Courier or MWI, older notices may sit under that unit's name or under AmerisourceBergen rather than Cencora.
Some Cencora staff saw their employer change through a deal in 2026, one completed and one still pending. The Lash Group hub sale went through in April, while the MWI merger was still waiting on regulators at the end of June, and Cencora's February 2026 release said its guidance didn't count on that deal closing before its fiscal year ended on September 30, 2026. The announced terms leave Cencora a non-controlling stake if it does close. If your team moved to CareMetx and you held unvested Cencora stock units or a balance in its 401(k) plan, it's worth asking how Cencora treated them when you left its payroll. If you're at MWI and hold Cencora awards, you can ask how the merger would treat them before it closes. Under the RSU award agreement and the plan's 2025 description, your age, your years with the company and whether you're still employed when the plan year ends can all move money, so the date on a separation is worth a second look.
Both closings where AmerisourceBergen's explanation is on record came with the same encouragement to the people affected, which was to apply for other jobs inside the company. Its communications director said so about the Paducah distribution center in a WKMS report in 2016, and a spokesperson said it about PharMEDium to ROI-NJ in 2020, adding that about 285 associates in Dayton had been told of redeployment opportunities. If you're weighing an internal opening, consider asking in writing how a move would sit with any severance you'd otherwise get, and whether applying changes any deadline you've been given.
Texas, New Jersey and California hold four of the company's tracker filings each. If you worked in one of them, our Texas, New Jersey and California layoffs pages cover each state's notice law and its recent filings. If your exit is still ahead and you hold stock awards or a 401(k) balance there, copies of the award agreements and a recent plan statement are worth saving while you can still log in.

Cencora sold its U.S. hub consulting operations, run under the Lash Group name with TheraCom's free-goods pharmacy, to CareMetx, which said experienced teams came with them and that Cencora would keep using it as a preferred U.S. patient-services partner.
February 2026, MWI Animal Health merger with Covetrus agreed
Cencora agreed to combine MWI Animal Health with Covetrus in a deal its February 2026 release said valued MWI at $3.5 billion, pending regulatory approval. The FTC asked for more information on May 20, the June 2026 10-Q says.
January 2020, PharMEDium compounding business exit announced
AmerisourceBergen's board approved exiting PharMEDium, bought for $2.6 billion in 2015, and its January 2020 8-K said all commercial and administrative operations tied to the business would stop. A Dayton, New Jersey notice listed 287 workers with an April 20 layoff date, per ROI-NJ.
2016, Paducah, Kentucky distribution center closing announced

What to do if you're laid off from Cencora
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Cencora's biggest hubs: Texas, New Jersey, California. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Cencora's hub states run: Texas, New Jersey, California, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Cencora layoff and severance questions
Is Cencora laying off employees in 2026?
Cencora's filings show it booking costs for job cuts through mid-2026. Restructuring and employee severance costs came to $70.4 million in the nine months ended June 30, 2026, against $55.1 million in the prior-year period, and its quarterly filing says they were primarily workforce reductions without saying how many people or where. The newest Cencora filing in our WARN tracker dates from 2020.
What severance has Cencora given laid-off employees?
The clearest terms on record date from February 2020, when AmerisourceBergen was closing PharMEDium and a spokesperson told ROI-NJ that all eligible associates would be offered severance benefits and career support services. None of the filings or reporting we track gives a formula for how much. If a package comes with your exit, consider asking which plan document it rests on, who qualifies as eligible and what deadline applies.
What happens to my stock if I'm laid off from Cencora?
If your grant follows the RSU award agreement AmerisourceBergen filed in 2022, units still vesting are forfeited when you leave for any reason other than death, disability or retirement. Retirement there means any exit after 55, other than for cause, once your age plus years of continuous employment reach 65, and those units keep vesting as if you'd stayed. A layoff, other than for cause, within two years after a change in control that happens after your grant date vests outstanding units in full.
What happens to my Cencora 401(k) if I'm laid off?
If you're in the Cencora Employee Investment Plan, its 2025 plan description says your contributions and the match vest from the start, apart from older match balances carried over from predecessor plans. Discretionary company contributions vest from 25% at two years of service to 100% at five, and only people still on the payroll when the plan year ends get one, unless they've retired, become disabled or died. On leaving, the vested balance less any loan can come out as a lump sum, with installments from age 55.
Is Cencora the same company as AmerisourceBergen?
Yes. AmerisourceBergen Corporation changed its name to Cencora, Inc. on August 30, 2023, and its stock moved from the ABC ticker to COR, according to its August 2023 8-K. Its older notices, including the ones in our WARN tracker from its AmerisourceBergen and AmeriSource years, carry the old names.
