Laid off from FedEx.

FedEx layoffs land one building at a time rather than as one national announcement. A FedEx executive put Network 2.0 at more than 475 station closures by the end of 2027, and the WARN filings our tracker holds name the individual sites.

FedEx confirms two St. Louis area closings under Network 2.0

Spectrum News reported on July 29, 2026 that FedEx was closing two St. Louis area facilities, affecting 75 full-time employees at Earth City and 68 on south Hanley Road. A FedEx spokesperson tied the closure to Network 2.0 and said workers were offered a transfer, severance, or a leave of absence to pursue other FedEx positions.

FedEx layoff history

The name on your WARN notice may not match the name on the building you worked in. FedEx announced in April 2023 that it would bring FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Services and its other operating companies into Federal Express Corporation, with full implementation expected in June 2024, which is why that legal name can turn up on a notice from a station nobody ever called Express. The contract warehouse business, FedEx Supply Chain Distribution System, Inc., sits in a different reporting segment and files under longer names of its own. FedEx Freight became an independent public company on June 1, 2026, with FedEx keeping 19.9 percent of its shares. Our tracker holds 79 all-time FedEx filings, 36 of them covering 4,200 jobs across 16 states since the start of 2025, and the filer printed on your own notice is the one that controls.

Network 2.0 is the consolidation FedEx has named when confirming particular closures, including the two in St. Louis. Its annual report describes a multi-year effort to consolidate sortation facilities and equipment across the U.S. and Canada, at roughly 360 U.S. locations as of May 31, 2026, with the U.S. rollout expected to finish by the end of calendar 2027. In February 2026, Scott Ray, FedEx's COO-elect for U.S. and Canada surface operations, told an investor event that the company expected to close more than 475 stations by the end of 2027, about 30 percent of its facility footprint, with more than 200 already shut and $2 billion in savings anticipated. Spectrum News reported in July 2026 that two St. Louis area sites were closing, 75 full-time employees at Earth City and 68 at the shipping center on south Hanley Road, with no union and no bumping rights at either.

Not every FedEx cut belongs to that program. The largest filing in our tracker, 856 jobs in Coppell, Texas in November 2025, came from FedEx Supply Chain Logistics & Electronics, Inc., and FedEx wrote in the notice that the action was necessitated solely by its customer's decision to move the business to a different third-party logistics provider. An August 2025 filing in Shelby County, Tennessee listed 611 jobs. The same reporting put the Coppell cuts behind 305 layoffs at Fort Worth in May 2025 and 131 across Garland and Plano in June. Which business you were in decided your employer of record.

On severance, the record thins out fast. A 2025 notice for a Kentucky closure said employees whose positions are eliminated would be offered a transfer, severance, or a leave of absence while pursuing other FedEx positions, and a spokesperson described the same options for the St. Louis sites. For Coppell the company described job placement assistance, relocation aid or severance, as applicable. No amount, formula, or schedule appears in any of it, and the annual report books severance inside a $366 million business optimization and realignment total for fiscal 2026 that also covers professional services and payments to contracted service providers, so it divides into nothing per person. Choosing between a transfer and a payout whose size nobody will put in front of you is a rotten spot to be in. Price the severance option in writing, and get any transfer's receiving location in writing too, before you rank them.

The filings also carry something the announcements skip. FedEx's permanent full-time count held at about 300,000 across fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2026, while permanent part-time rose from about 210,000 to about 230,000 and contracted service providers fell from about 5,700 to about 5,300. That number is subtraction between two annual reports, not a company statement, and the rounded figures on both sides still include FedEx Freight.

Federal WARN is a floor, not a promise. It reaches employers with 100 or more employees and asks for at least 60 calendar days of written notice before a closing or mass layoff affecting 50 or more people at a single site, and that baseline carries statutory exceptions for unforeseeable business circumstances, faltering companies, and natural disasters. The same notice goes to employee representatives, your local chief elected official, and your state's dislocated worker unit. The Labor Department administers the rule but has no enforcement role in seeking damages when notice falls short or never comes, and some states have their own plant closure laws. Our WARN filing tracker carries FedEx filings under the entity that filed them, so you can check your notice's name against the building down the street.

How FedEx's layoffs compare to other companies

The record holds two kinds of FedEx cut. Individual U.S. sites have closed with their own headcounts, while the reductions announced in Europe and among officers and directors were organized by function.

What to do after being laid off from FedEx

  1. File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. FedEx's biggest hubs: Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
  2. Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what FedEx's hub states run: Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, and every other state is here.
  3. Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
  4. Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
  5. Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

FedEx layoff and severance questions

What severance does FedEx pay when it closes a facility?

No amount is on record. In the notices and statements we track, FedEx has offered a choice of transfer, severance, or a leave of absence, and for Coppell it described job placement assistance, relocation aid or severance, as applicable. Its fiscal 2026 annual report books severance inside a $366 million business optimization total covering other costs too, so no per-person figure comes out. Get the severance option priced in writing before you compare it to a transfer.

How do I know if my FedEx site is closing?

Watch your state's WARN feed. Federal law reaches employers with 100 or more employees and asks for at least 60 calendar days of written notice before a closing or mass layoff affecting 50 or more people at a single site, subject to statutory exceptions, and some states have their own plant closure laws. When FedEx confirmed three closures in early 2025, a spokesperson said layoff details wouldn't be available until closer to the closure date. Our tracker lists the FedEx filings we hold.

Why does my FedEx layoff notice say Federal Express Corporation?

FedEx announced in April 2023 that it planned to bring FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Services and other operating companies into Federal Express Corporation, with full implementation expected in June 2024. That announcement is why the name turns up at all, and it can explain seeing it on a notice from a station nobody called Express. What controls is the exact legal entity printed on your own notice, so use that name when you check filings.

Is FedEx Supply Chain part of FedEx?

Yes, though it files under its own names. FedEx reports FedEx Supply Chain Distribution System, Inc. inside its Corporate, other, and eliminations segment rather than inside Federal Express, and warehouse closures reach state trackers under longer names like FedEx Supply Chain Logistics & Electronics, Inc. Those sites can also close for reasons of their own. FedEx said the 856-job Coppell closure was necessitated solely by a customer moving its business to a different provider.

How many FedEx layoffs have been filed in 2026?

Our tracker holds 17 filings covering 762 jobs across 7 states for 2026, computed on September 5, 2026, alongside 36 filings covering 4,200 jobs across 16 states since the start of 2025 and 79 all time. Those counts reflect what the collected state archives hold, so a gap-year state reads as absent rather than quiet.

Who else gets told when FedEx files a WARN notice about my site?

When federal WARN applies, the notice also goes to employee representatives, your local chief elected official, and your state's dislocated worker unit, so a state agency already knows about your site. The Labor Department administers WARN but has no enforcement role in seeking damages when notice falls short, and some states have their own plant closure laws.

Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from FedEx?

In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. FedEx's biggest U.S. hubs are Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.

Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at FedEx?

Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.

What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at FedEx?

Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.

Should I sign the severance agreement right away?

First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from FedEx?

Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
