Laid off from Fresenius Medical Care.
Several of Fresenius Medical Care's US cuts since 2024 were tied to work it stopped doing itself or moved abroad, including trucking, a California factory, a Mississippi lab and logistics. Separately, in 2026 the company reported finishing a plan to leave some US dialysis clinics.
What we know about Fresenius Medical Care severance and layoffs
- 218 jobs on Fresenius USA Manufacturing's four January 2026 notices, in four states
- 308 jobs on three Spectra lab notices in Mississippi and New Jersey since 2025
- 309 jobs on the 2024 filing for closing the Concord, California, dialysis plant
- About 150 of TruBlu's 600 trucking jobs the 2024 changes were expected to affect
- Up to 5,000 full-time equivalents FME25 anticipated reducing worldwide, a November 2021 target
- 1,806 fewer US staff in Care Enablement, the products side, from 2023 to 2025
The most recent Fresenius Medical Care layoff we've found
Fresenius Medical Care said in its August 2026 results that it had finished its 2026 plan by exiting around 100 US clinics. Spectra Laboratories' 57-job Rockleigh, New Jersey, row is the newest in our WARN tracker, with an April 7, 2026 layoff date.
What Fresenius Medical Care layoffs have meant for employees
The job titles in Fresenius Medical Care's recent layoff paperwork belong to the people who keep dialysis clinics supplied and tested. Drivers filled most of the job list in the Kenosha letter, MedTech Dive named assemblers, technicians, warehouse staff and quality workers at Concord, and the Mississippi WARN list filed Southaven under medical laboratories. The 2025 annual report points the same way. Care Enablement, the side that covers products, manufacturing and supply chain, lost 1,806 US staff in two years, while US Care Delivery lost 63. Those are net changes that include sales and hiring, not layoff counts. If your work sits in supply, manufacturing or testing, that's where the notices since 2024 have landed.
Several of those cuts started with a handoff. A spokesperson told FreightWaves in 2024 that long-haul loads would go to contract carriers, which cost less, and shuttle work to Penske. Two years later the company told Radio Catskill it was moving final-mile delivery to Ryder, the fleet it had said the 2024 changes wouldn't touch. A handoff sorts people into groups. At TruBlu, staff at transferred shuttle sites could seek Penske jobs, while the drivers named as eligible for severance were the ones outside the transfer. If a new operator offers you a job and severance is also on offer, you may want to weigh one against the other, since the company's severance language there named drivers outside the transfer. The clock can differ by site as well. Wisconsin's letter gave April 10 and Radio Catskill reported Chester's layoffs starting April 28, so a colleague's date elsewhere in the same deal wouldn't settle yours.
A move inside the company is the other exception on record. The company's plan for Concord, as MedTech Dive reported it, left out remote staff and people transferred within the company, and the 2026 statement spoke of opportunities "within Fresenius Medical Care." If you're offered a transfer alongside severance, setting the new site's pay and drive against that severance is one way to judge it.
Clinic exits look different from the outside. They've surfaced in earnings releases and local news about patients and drive times, and the 2026 filings in our tracker all carry Fresenius USA Manufacturing or Spectra Laboratories as filer, so a clinic can close without showing up there. Neither the company's second-quarter results nor WGXA says what became of staff, and the line about keeping most patients nearby is about patients. If your center closes, the clinics taking its patients are a natural place to look for your next shift.
The big numbers call for care. Up to 5,000 was what the company anticipated in its November 2021 release, a plan for full-time equivalents, not a tally of people let go. Total headcount fell from 119,845 at the end of 2023 to 109,698 at the end of 2025, and the company put those declines largely down to businesses it sold, so that drop can't be read as layoffs. The June 2026 count was 107,226. The program was extended and renamed FME25+ in 2025. In August 2026 the company expected EUR 350 million in related one-time costs that year, clinic closing costs among them, and EUR 1.2 billion in savings by the end of 2027.
Quest has been the buyer in two separate Fresenius lab deals. In 2017 it announced a deal for Shiel, and BioSpace reported Rockleigh cuts as that work moved toward Teterboro. In 2025 it bought select clinical testing assets from Spectra, and its 2025 release said multiple Quest labs would test for nearby clinics. If Quest offers you work, the worksite named in that offer is worth comparing with where you work now. Should you move with the work, Ryder's layoff record and Quest's layoff record show what those employers have done. Claim rules in four of the states where these filings landed are at New Jersey unemployment, Mississippi unemployment, Texas unemployment and California unemployment.
A sourced history of Fresenius Medical Care layoffs
2026, US clinic plan concluded at around 100 exits
The plan ended with around 100 exits and most patients kept in neighboring clinics, the company's second-quarter results said. Separately, a spokesperson told WGXA market conditions couldn't sustain a standalone center in Eastman, Georgia, set to close March 27.
January to April 2026, Ryder logistics changes announced
Fresenius USA Manufacturing said it would divest logistics work to Ryder and set 41 Kenosha layoffs for April 10, per its letter to Wisconsin. Radio Catskill reported 56 in Chester, New York, from April 28. Our tracker lists 54 in Oregon, Ohio, and 67 in Coppell, Texas.
September 2025 to April 2026, Spectra lab notices
Quest Diagnostics completed its purchase of select Spectra clinical testing assets in August 2025. The Mississippi WARN list then showed 155 Southaven layoffs, "due to being acquired by another company." Our tracker has Rockleigh, New Jersey, rows of 96 and 57, with December 17 and April 7 layoff dates.
May 2024, Concord plant closing and move to Mexico
California's filing covered 309 people, MedTech Dive reported, with cuts planned from August through mid-2025 as dialysis manufacturing moved to Reynosa, Mexico. CEO Helen Giza told investors that would reduce costs and improve margins.
January 2024, TruBlu long-haul fleet and shuttles given up
TruBlu Logistics, a Fresenius subsidiary, said it would divest its long-haul fleet and move cross-dock shuttles to Penske Logistics. FreightWaves put the jobs affected at around 150 of 600, and shuttle staff outside four sites could seek Penske jobs.
November 2021, FME25 cost program announced
The company anticipated reducing as many as 5,000 full-time equivalents worldwide and EUR 500 million in annual costs by the end of 2025, its November 2021 release said, and promised consultation with works councils.
September 2017, Shiel sale to Quest announced, Rockleigh cuts planned
Fresenius-owned Shiel planned 538 job cuts at its Rockleigh, New Jersey, site, BioSpace reported, with the work moving to Teterboro. Quest said it would consider qualified Shiel staff for about 300 positions.
What to do if you're laid off from Fresenius Medical Care
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Fresenius Medical Care's biggest hubs: California, New Jersey, Mississippi, Texas. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Fresenius Medical Care's hub states run: California, New Jersey, Mississippi, Texas, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Fresenius Medical Care layoff and severance questions
Is Fresenius Medical Care laying off employees in 2026?
We count 5 notices covering 275 jobs in 2026 in our WARN tracker, four from Fresenius USA Manufacturing in January and one from Spectra Laboratories in Rockleigh, New Jersey. Those figures are jobs the filings named, which isn't the same as finished layoffs. The company's August 2026 results also reported the end of its plan to exit US clinics.
What severance has Fresenius Medical Care given laid-off employees?
Company statements describe eligibility, and none of the sources we read gives an amount or formula. In 2024 a spokesperson told FreightWaves that drivers outside the Penske transfer were eligible under the company's severance plan, and that employees laid off in the TruBlu divestment could get a package and outplacement. MedTech Dive reported the same pairing for eligible employees around the Concord closing.
Did Fresenius Medical Care sell Spectra Laboratories to Quest Diagnostics?
It sold select assets. Quest said it completed the clinical testing purchase in August 2025 and would take over lab work for Fresenius's US dialysis centers, with that move expected to finish by early 2026. The 2025 annual report says the transaction closed in the fourth quarter of 2025, calls Spectra wholly owned and lists its Southaven and Rockleigh sites as leased labs.
What happened to Fresenius drivers when delivery moved to Ryder?
The company told Radio Catskill its goal was to keep as many CDL drivers as possible, with help exploring work at Ryder or inside Fresenius Medical Care. Its Kenosha letter called that site's layoff permanent, with no bumping rights, no union representation and 34 of its 41 listed jobs held by drivers.
How many WARN notices has Fresenius Medical Care filed?
We count 17 notices in our WARN tracker from 2014 through April 2026, treating each California closing's phases as one, and 7 filings covering 526 jobs since the start of 2025. The count reaches only what state archives hold, and the 538 Rockleigh jobs BioSpace reported at Shiel in 2017 sit outside it because Shiel is a divested unit.
