Laid off from Hyatt.
Hyatt's WARN notices since 2025 follow hotels it staffed leaving its hands in Oakland, Buckhead and Manhattan, plus the largest, a cut tied to its Omaha call center. At Hyatt-branded hotels it doesn't own or manage, staff are most often employed by the owner or a franchisee's management company.

Hyatt layoff history
A Hyatt sign on the building and Hyatt on your paycheck can be two different companies. Hyatt says it generally employs the people at its owned hotels, its offices and the hotels it manages in the US and Canada, while other hotel staff are most often employed by third-party owners or franchisees' management companies, and that it doesn't control employment terms for people it doesn't employ. A WARN notice comes from the employer, so check the legal employer on your pay stub. If it reads Hyatt Corporation, the record below is yours. If it names someone else, search that name in our WARN tracker.
Our tracker counts 72 Hyatt filings across all years, with 4 filings covering 497 jobs since the start of 2025. The largest, 286 jobs, sits on Nebraska's WARN listing under Hyatt Corporation, dated June 17, 2025 and located Omaha/Remote, and Hotel Dive, reading that notice, tied the 286 to a call center in Omaha, with most of them working remotely nationwide. That month Hyatt told Hotel Dive it had cut about 30% of its Americas Global Care Center guest services and support teams, citing the evolving nature of guest inquiries, without confirming a headcount, and said the Marion, Illinois, and Omaha centers kept operating. If you did that job remotely from another state, your notice may sit in Nebraska's records.
What those workers got is on record only in their own accounts. One told Hotel Dive they were let go on June 17 in a meeting with roughly 70 others, heard it was about cost savings rather than performance, and were told they'd get 60 days of pay and a severance package. A Reddit post quoted by Meetings Today claimed 24 hours' notice and severance of $800 or less, which Hyatt hadn't confirmed. Both are unverified. Nebraska's labor department describes the WARN Act as requiring 60 days' advance notice of covered mass layoffs, so if yours came far shorter, keep the letter and the dates and have an employment lawyer see them before you sign a release.
The hotel notices come from a different part of Hyatt. In a January 17, 2025 letter, the Waterfront Hotel's general manager told Oakland staff that Hyatt was pulling out over financial issues with the current owner and would permanently separate its employment relationship with all hotel employees between March 18 and April 1. California's filing that day listed 57 jobs, 60 days before the first separation date, by our arithmetic, and the letter left open whether the owner would hire a new manager or close for good.
In Atlanta, a closure notice recorded July 3, 2025 covered 102 workers at 415 East Paces Ferry Rd NE, and that October the hotel there opened as The Tess, formerly Thompson Atlanta-Buckhead, in Marriott's Autograph Collection. In Manhattan, a notice recorded July 1, 2026 covers 52 workers at The Chatwal, effective September 29, the only 2026 Hyatt filing in our tracker. The Chatwal had been part of Hyatt's Unbound Collection, and Head for Points reported in August that Minor Hotels planned to take it over and close it at the end of September for refurbishment. Nothing on record says The Tess or Minor Hotels kept the old staff. If your hotel is changing flags, ask the incoming operator in writing whether it'll consider you.
In May 2020 Hyatt announced layoffs across its global corporate functions starting June 1, affecting around 1,300 colleagues after a historic drop in travel demand, and said those laid off would be eligible for severance pay, outplacement services and benefits commensurate with their years of service, with the Hyatt Care Fund there for pressing hardship. In 2025 it booked $57 million of restructuring expenses from organizational changes, including severance, insurance benefits and outplacement, against $5 million in 2024, with no job count attached. That 2020 statement is the only severance description Hyatt has published on record, and it covered one round. If you're weighing an offer, ask HR in writing how your years of service were counted.

What to do after being laid off from Hyatt
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Hyatt's biggest hubs: Nebraska, Georgia, California, New York. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Hyatt's hub states run: Nebraska, Georgia, California, New York, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Hyatt layoff and severance questions
Did Hyatt lay off call center workers in 2025?
Yes. In June 2025 Hyatt told Hotel Dive it had cut about 30% of its Americas Global Care Center guest services and support staff. A June 17 Nebraska notice covered 286 employees tied to a call center in Omaha, most of them remote. Hyatt said its Marion, Illinois, and Omaha centers kept operating.
What severance did Hyatt give laid-off employees?
The only terms Hyatt has published on record date from 2020, when laid-off corporate staff were offered severance pay, outplacement and benefits commensurate with years of service. For the 2025 call-center cut there are only unverified accounts, from 60 days of pay plus a package down to a Reddit claim of $800 or less. None of that binds what you're offered now.
Am I a Hyatt employee if I work at a Hyatt hotel?
Not necessarily. Hyatt says it generally employs the staff of its owned hotels, its offices and the hotels it manages in the US and Canada, while other hotel staff are most often employed by third-party owners or franchisees' management companies. Check the employer named on your pay stub, because that company's notices and severance are the ones that apply.
Why did Hyatt file WARN notices when it stopped managing hotels?
At US hotels it manages, Hyatt has generally been the employer. When it stopped managing Oakland's Waterfront Hotel in 2025, the general manager told staff Hyatt would permanently separate its employment relationship with every hotel employee, and California's filing that day listed 57 jobs.
How many WARN notices has Hyatt filed?
Across all years, 72 Hyatt filings sit in our tracker, and since the start of 2025 there are 4 filings covering 497 jobs, from California, Georgia, Nebraska and New York. The only 2026 filing covers 52 jobs at The Chatwal. Hyatt-branded hotels that file under another employer's name aren't counted.
Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Hyatt?
In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Hyatt's biggest U.S. hubs are Nebraska, Georgia, California, New York. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.
Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Hyatt?
Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.
What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Hyatt?
Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.
Should I sign the severance agreement right away?
First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.
Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Hyatt?
Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
