Laid off from Infineon Technologies.

Since 2022, Infineon has stepped back from US plants in different ways, and the way mattered for workers. A California plant drew a permanent closure notice, a Texas fab was sold with its employees joining the buyer, and an Arizona closing was announced with production moving mainly to foundry partners.

What Infineon Technologies layoffs have meant for employees

Four places carry most of Infineon's US notices since 2022, and all four have a history under other names. Champion Court in San Jose is the headquarters address in Cypress's 10-K, El Segundo is the home address in International Rectifier's 10-K, and that same filing lists Temecula and Mesa among its fabrication plants. Those places account for 741 jobs out of 853 in our WARN tracker since 2022, and Infineon's 2025 annual report lists International Rectifier HiRel Products and Spansion LLC as wholly owned units. Cypress filed notices in San Jose in 2015 and 2016, and Champion Court has turned up in all three California rounds since 2024, 183 jobs in all. If a package reaches you and it's tied to years of service, the start date it uses is worth checking against your original hire date, which may be older than your time under the Infineon name.

Three of Infineon's US plants show how much the form of an exit matters to the people inside. Temecula drew a closure notice. Austin's Fab 25 went to SkyWater, and Evertiq's report said its employees joined the buyer, so those jobs changed hands instead of ending. At Mesa, a spokesperson's August statement in KTAR's report had the plant closing and its production going mainly to foundry partners, and Infineon's notice covered the layoffs. The annual report filed the Austin sale under shedding smaller sites for economies of scale, with long-term supply agreements keeping the capacity available, and it called the sale of the former Cypress site in Bangkok pending. If you worked in Austin, the date your employer changed is the line between Infineon's record and SkyWater's.

Germany and the US look different in these numbers. Chief executive Jochen Hanebeck, in dpa's report, ruled out forced layoffs in Germany when he gave the August 2024 job figures, and said the relocations covered high-wage countries, North America included. In fiscal 2025 Infineon's average headcount fell 1% in Germany and 19% in the US. That US drop includes the Austin staff who left with the sale, so it isn't a layoff count. The annual report dates its Step Up cost program to May 7, 2024, and reports €232 million in restructuring and closure costs in fiscal 2024 and €139 million in fiscal 2025, most of it tied to the program. California's reports name no program, so neither they nor the annual report tie a given notice to Step Up.

Notice timing has differed by the kind of cut. Each of the three California layoff rounds shows an effective date 14 days after its notice date in the state's 2024-25 report and 2025-26 report, while the Temecula closure showed 62 in its 2022-23 report. Those are the dates on past rounds, and they don't set a pattern for any later notice. The reports list dates and counts, so they can't say whether the two weeks marked the end of a paycheck or just the last day on site. If your letter lists more than one date, it's worth getting clear on what each one refers to, whether that's the last day of work, of pay or of benefits.

Our California, Arizona and Washington unemployment pages cover the three states with Infineon notices since 2025. If a letter reached you and it lists dates, it's the document worth keeping, since a state list gives only a count for a site.

Infineon Technologies layoff and severance questions

What severance has Infineon given laid-off employees?

No formula, weeks of pay or per-person figure for Infineon's own US rounds since 2022 shows up in California's reports, and Infineon's 2025 annual report gives restructuring and closure costs group-wide, €139 million that year. The clearest account comes from Spansion, where former employees told The Register in 2009 that no US staff got severance, weeks after the departing chief executive received $751,000. An $8.568 million settlement was later proposed for more than 750 of those workers.

Did Infineon lay off workers when it sold its Austin fab?

About 1,000 Fab 25 employees joined SkyWater once the deal closed, Evertiq reported, so those jobs moved with the plant. Infineon's annual report booked a €149 million impairment on the disposal.

How many jobs has Infineon cut in the US since 2025?

Our WARN tracker puts 304 jobs on notices since the start of 2025 in California, Washington and Arizona, and the only one from 2026 is Mesa's. California lists one date's notices site by site, so those rows come down to four dated rounds. The count leaves out the Austin employees who moved to SkyWater.

What did Infineon say about closing its Mesa, Arizona, plant?

The layoffs, a spokesperson said in an email quoted by KTAR, were ultimately the result of moving 6/8-inch frontend epitaxy production out of Mesa, mainly to strategic foundry partners. Epitaxial wafers were already Mesa's work in International Rectifier's 2014 10-K.
