Jabil filed a 382-job San Jose notice in August 2026
California's WARN report lists a Jabil notice dated August 20, 2026 covering 382 jobs in San Jose, classified as a temporary closure with jobs ending November 23. It follows a 393-job San Jose notice of the same type in September 2025. Jabil tied earlier temporary California notices to holiday closures in 2020 and 2022; nothing in the reporting we track explains this one.

If your Jabil notice came out of San Jose, start with how the state classified it. The two biggest Jabil filings our tracker has logged since the start of 2025 are San Jose notices, 393 jobs dated September 24, 2025 and 382 dated August 20, 2026, and California lists each as a temporary closure, with jobs ending November 24, 2025 and November 23, 2026. Our tracker holds 5 filings covering 920 jobs since the start of 2025, split between California and Massachusetts, and the two other California notices were small and permanent, 21 jobs each in San Jose and Benicia.
Jabil has filed temporary California notices before and said what they were. In 2020, with 500 San Jose layoffs listed as temporary, communications manager Jennifer Howe said, “During the holiday season we are enacting temporary site closures across multiple sites,” to accommodate seasonal softening demand. In late October 2022 the company told the state it was laying off 1,364 California employees and closing six plants for the final week to 10 days of the year. Nothing in the reporting we track explains the 2025 or 2026 notices, with no terms on record for either. If the closure lasts only about a week, California's unpaid waiting week can absorb all of it.
Clinton is a different kind of notice. Nypro's plant anchored the town's downtown for decades before Jabil bought the company in 2013 for $665 million, when about 900 people worked there. In March 2026 a Jabil spokesperson said the company would wind down the Clinton facility and consolidate production to its nearby Devens site by the end of November. The June 2 WARN filing covers 103 employees laid off between August and December, and the Boston Business Journal reported two rounds, starting in September and December, with the facility closing December 1. A letter from Jabil's human resources manager put the closure down to work being consolidated at other plants, and the BBJ reported that some of that work leaves Massachusetts.
What Jabil has said it will offer Clinton workers comes without numbers. The spokesperson described transfers to Devens and other US locations, plus severance benefits and job-hunting help for people left out of work, and declined to say how many were transferring or losing jobs. If you're weighing a transfer against leaving, get both offers in writing with their dates before you choose, since the public statements named both and put numbers on neither.
Around those site actions sit two companywide restructuring plans. The 2024 plan, approved September 26, 2023, set out to realign costs stranded by the Mobility sale and optimize the global footprint through SG&A headcount reductions and capacity realignment, and ran to about $300 million. The 2025 plan, approved September 24, 2024, reached manufacturing headcount as well, carried an estimate of about $200 million with $60 million to $70 million for severance and benefits, and was substantially complete by November 30, 2025. The first nine months of fiscal 2026 added $38 million more in severance and benefit costs, under what the company called targeted restructuring activities. Nothing in the reporting we track assigns those charges to San Jose, Benicia or Clinton.
Jabil is a far smaller employer than it was, with 250,000 people in August 2022, 236,000 a year later, 138,000 in August 2024 and 135,000 in August 2025, a slide that spans the December 2023 sale of its Mobility business. The California notices carry no terms on record. The public figures are companywide, $177 million of employee severance and benefit costs in fiscal 2024, $58 million in fiscal 2025 and $38 million in the first nine months of fiscal 2026, and none of them describes one person's package.
Did Jabil's Mobility sale to BYD cut US jobs?
The Mobility business was product manufacturing in Chengdu with supporting component work in Wuxi, sold to an affiliate of BYD Electronic for about $2.2 billion and closed December 29, 2023. The only other divestiture in Jabil's fiscal 2025 annual report is its Italy operations, in August 2025. Neither covered a US site. Nothing in the reporting we track ties either sale to US jobs.
How much is unemployment after a Jabil layoff in California or Massachusetts?
California pays between $40 and $450 a week if you qualify, after a one-week unpaid waiting period that can swallow a temporary closure lasting only a week or so. Massachusetts figures the weekly check at roughly half of what you averaged per week, under a $1,105 ceiling as of October 5, 2025, and no claim there runs longer than 30 weeks.
Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Jabil?
In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Jabil's biggest U.S. hubs are California, Massachusetts. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.
Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Jabil?
Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.
What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Jabil?
Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.
Should I sign the severance agreement right away?
First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.
Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Jabil?
Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
