JLL's severance charges came to $16.6 million in the June 2026 quarter

JLL's 10-Q for the three months ended June 30, 2026 shows $16.6 million of severance and other employment-related charges, against $18.0 million a year earlier, and $19.5 million for the half against $25.4 million. The note attaches no headcount, and our tracker has nothing for JLL in 2026, so the April 2025 Amazon-site notices remain its newest.

JLL layoff history

A big share of JLL's workforce works client-side, with the client reimbursing what those employees cost. JLL's 2025 annual report counts over 113,000 employees, including approximately 54,600 whose costs its clients reimburse, close to half the company. The 2022 report had over 103,000 and about 45,400, so by our arithmetic the client-reimbursed count grew by about 9,200 while the total grew by roughly 10,000. Our tracker holds 7 all-time JLL filings, and the five since 2025 all sit at Amazon sites.

The Orlando notice spells out what happened at one site. JLL's April 14, 2025 letter to Florida said a change in Amazon's staffing contractor required a reduction-in-force and the end of all JLL operations at MCO1/3, 12340 Boggy Creek Road. It called the losses permanent, set separations from June 14, and listed 86 jobs, 53 of them mechanical and robotics technicians. Amazon told Bisnow it was taking the Florida roles in-house and that the vendor's employees could interview for positions at Amazon. The California notices, 87 jobs in Fresno County, 77 in Sacramento, 70 in San Joaquin and 64 in Tulare, gave no reason, though Bisnow reported that all four sites were Amazon distribution centers. JLL didn't respond when Bisnow asked.

In May 2020, sources told The Real Deal that roughly three dozen people in JLL's New York capital markets group lost their jobs, while executives said the global executive board had halved its own base salaries. The late-2022 and 2023 cuts arrived as a dollar target with no published headcount. After cuts late in 2022, CFO Karen Brennan said in February 2023 that JLL was pursuing $140 million in savings, mostly "reductions in headcount" and "primarily nonproducer headcount," and JLL didn't answer Bisnow's request for a count. Bisnow explained that brokerages call leasing and sales agents producers, as opposed to support staff. JLL reported $44.5 million of severance and other employment-related costs for 2022, Bisnow noted, and the 2025 annual report lists $62.1 million for 2023, $27.1 million for 2024 and $42.2 million for 2025, worldwide and including external service providers.

If a client decision ends your JLL job, the useful questions come in a particular order. The Amazon handoff was described two ways, a new staffing contractor in JLL's notice and in-house roles in Amazon's statement, so start by finding out who staffs your site next and how to apply, since Amazon promised an interview rather than a job. Get any separation terms in writing before your last day, because no terms on record cover any JLL round and none of those rounds binds what you're offered. Then start your unemployment claim, with California's EDD for the four California sites or through FloridaCommerce's Reconnect system for Orlando.

How JLL's layoffs compare to other companies

JLL went first in 2020 and had company in 2023. The Real Deal called its May 2020 New York cut the first at any of the big commercial services firms during the pandemic, and Bisnow's report on JLL's 2023 savings plan noted that CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield and Marcus & Millichap had also cut staff.

What to do after being laid off from JLL

  1. File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. JLL's biggest hubs: California, Florida. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
  2. Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what JLL's hub states run: California, Florida, and every other state is here.
  3. Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
  4. Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
  5. Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

JLL layoff and severance questions

Why did JLL lay off workers at Amazon sites in 2025?

JLL's Florida notice said a change in Amazon's staffing contractor required a reduction-in-force and the end of its operations at Amazon's MCO1/3 building in Orlando. Amazon told Bisnow it was bringing those roles in-house instead, so the two accounts differ on who took over. The four California notices gave no reason, though Bisnow reported every site was an Amazon distribution center. JLL didn't respond when Bisnow asked for comment.

Does JLL pay severance when a client contract ends?

Nothing in the reporting we track gives terms for the Amazon sites or any earlier round. JLL's annual report offers only a worldwide total, $42.2 million of severance and other employment-related charges in 2025, including external service providers. Past rounds don't bind the next one, and the public record doesn't establish anyone's individual terms, so read your own separation paperwork, and any agreement it refers to, before you sign.

Is JLL laying people off in 2026?

Our tracker has no JLL filing so far in 2026. The 10-Q does show $19.5 million of severance and other employment-related charges for the first half, down from $25.4 million a year earlier, with no headcount attached. In February 2026, Christian Ulbrich told analysts JLL had grown revenue in 2024 and 2025 without adding much headcount outside client-side, reimbursed roles, and would be able to drive more revenue "without any significant amounts of headcount."

Can I get hired by the company that takes over my JLL site?

Possibly, though nothing on record moves anyone over automatically. Amazon said the outgoing vendor's employees would have the opportunity to interview for positions at Amazon, which means an interview and not a transfer. JLL's Florida notice also stated that no bumping rights existed. Apply to whoever runs your site next, and ask JLL separately whether it has openings elsewhere.

Where do I file for unemployment after a JLL layoff?

In California that's the EDD, which lists $40 to $450 a week for eligible workers, based on earnings over the past 18 months, with a first payment about three weeks after you apply and a CalJOBS registration step. In Florida it's FloridaCommerce's Reconnect system, which asks for 18 months of employer details, including the FEIN on your W-2, and the Orlando notice names the employer as Jones Lang LaSalle Americas, Inc. After that, Florida claimants request benefits every two weeks.

Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from JLL?

In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. JLL's biggest U.S. hubs are California, Florida. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.

Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at JLL?

Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.

What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at JLL?

Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.

Should I sign the severance agreement right away?

First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from JLL?

Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
