Laid off from Labcorp.

Labcorp's recent cuts have landed one lab at a time. Bedford and Ann Arbor filed to close in January 2026, months after management said it was consolidating non-core Early Development sites, and the only severance statement on record is a 2023 line about other Labcorp jobs or severance benefits.

Labcorp's Raritan notice set 83 job cuts for July 2026

Labcorp's Raritan, New Jersey notice, posted to the state's WARN list in March 2026, covered 83 workers with effective dates from July 3 to July 17, 2026, and no unit, job titles or reason are on record. Where New Jersey's WARN law covers a layoff, the statute requires a week of wages per completed year on the job.

Labcorp layoff history

A site closure is a rough way to lose a job, because the people you'd ask about openings are packing up too, and that's the shape most of Labcorp's recent cuts have taken. Our tracker holds 5 filings covering 386 jobs since the start of 2025 and 14 all time, with four of the five dated 2026 and covering 313 jobs. The biggest of the five is Bedford, Massachusetts, 94 jobs, filed January 8, 2026. The rest came from Ann Arbor, Raritan, Mississippi and Los Angeles.

Ann Arbor's site on Technology Drive was part of Labcorp Early Development Laboratories. Its notice, filed January 7, 2026, called the closure permanent, gave no reason, and put research assistants, scientists and project managers among 76 jobs set to end between March 9 and June 14. Bedford's WARN letter covered a pre-clinical medical device testing lab at 15 Wiggins Ave., with 94 of 103 employees slated to go in phases from March 9, 2026, animal caretakers and technicians, research assistants, accounting specialists and a veterinarian among them. In October 2025 management had told investors it was beginning to consolidate non-core Early Development sites, and the 2025 annual report carried $105.5 million in charges for restructuring that business.

Somerset went through a version of this in 2023. Labcorp filed to cut 239 jobs there on the early development side of its biopharma lab services, a total that took in 78 the state had disclosed that August, with batches planned for February 2024 and spring 2025. CFO Glenn Eisenberg had just described that segment as seeing lower orders and higher-than-normal cancellations as biotech funding dried up. The spokesperson's line from that round, other Labcorp positions or severance benefits, is still the only statement about terms in the reporting we track.

Two details from Labcorp's recent filings belong in your meeting. When it filed to close Los Angeles in 2025 and Bedford in 2026, it planned to reassign the people it kept to remote positions or nearby sites, and Bedford's letter granted no bumping rights. So get in writing whether your role is eliminated or reassigned, and what turning a reassignment down would do to your severance. If the release asks you to waive federal age-discrimination claims in a group layoff, federal law sets a floor of 45 days to weigh it and 7 days after signing to take it back, and Labcorp owes you a written list of the titles and ages of the people chosen, plus the ages of those in your unit or job classification who weren't. Read that list before you sign.

What to do after being laid off from Labcorp

  1. File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Labcorp's biggest hubs: New Jersey, Massachusetts, Michigan, California. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
  2. Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Labcorp's hub states run: New Jersey, Massachusetts, Michigan, California, and every other state is here.
  3. Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
  4. Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
  5. Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

Labcorp layoff and severance questions

Is Labcorp laying people off in 2026?

Four Labcorp filings in our tracker are dated 2026, covering 313 jobs. Bedford, Massachusetts filed for 94 in January and Ann Arbor, Michigan for 76 the same month, both site closures. A Mississippi filing for 60 followed on March 17, and Raritan, New Jersey posted 83 cuts in March with effective dates in July. Separation dates differ by site and, at Bedford, by phase, so check the date in your own letter.

Why is Labcorp closing Early Development labs?

Ann Arbor's notice listed no reason. On its October 28, 2025 call, management said it was beginning to divest or restructure Early Development through site consolidation, affecting about $50 million a year in revenue from non-core areas, and expected a slight lift to operating income. Nothing in the reporting we track links that plan to a named site. The 2025 annual report booked $105.5 million for the Early Development restructuring, mostly impairments on property, equipment, intangible and other assets.

Does Labcorp give severance when it lays people off?

The only statement on record came with the 2023 Somerset cuts, when Labcorp's spokesperson said those affected would be invited to consider other Labcorp positions or would be eligible for severance benefits. No amount came with it. Labcorp's 10-K puts severance and other personnel costs inside restructuring charges at $33.4 million for 2023, $43.0 million for 2024 and $27.2 million for 2025, company-wide totals that say nothing about any one person's package.

Do Labcorp workers in New Jersey get state-mandated severance?

They can, if the state law covers their layoff, and nothing in the reporting we track says whether the Raritan or Somerset notices qualified. Under New Jersey's WARN law, a covered mass layoff is a reduction in force ending the jobs of 50 or more people who work at one establishment or report to it, inside any 30-day period. Where the law applies, each covered employee gets one week of wages per completed year on the job, at the better of the final rate or the three-year average, plus four weeks more on less than 90 days' notice. The employer owes that or its own severance, whichever is greater, and waiving it takes the labor commissioner's or a court's approval. A same or equivalent job offered in-state within 50 miles of your old site doesn't count as a termination.

What happened to Labcorp jobs in the Fortrea spin-off?

The clinical development business left with its people. Labcorp's February 2023 announcement put Fortrea at over 19,000 people and kept Diagnostics, Central Labs and Early Development Research Labs at Labcorp. The spin-off completed at 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2023. Labcorp described itself as over 75,000 employees before the split and more than 60,000 after, and MetroWest reported nearly 70,000 in January 2026. Its 10-K says restructuring charges cover eliminating redundant positions and facilities tied to cost saving initiatives, the Spin-off and deals. Filings in Fortrea's name aren't counted here.

Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Labcorp?

In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Labcorp's biggest U.S. hubs are New Jersey, Massachusetts, Michigan, California. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.

Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Labcorp?

Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.

What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Labcorp?

Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.

Should I sign the severance agreement right away?

First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Labcorp?

Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
