Laid off from Leggett & Platt.

Leggett & Platt has repeatedly folded plants into other sites. When Florida work moved to Plant City, some workers transferred and others were laid off, and in late 2025 its Kentucky adjustable bed work went to Mexico. Since August 2026 it has belonged to Somnigroup International, and closings have continued.

The most recent Leggett & Platt layoff we've found

In October 2026 Leggett announced it would close its Leitchfield, Kentucky manufacturing plant at year-end, K105 reported, after its merger with Somnigroup became official on August 26.

What Leggett & Platt layoffs have meant for employees

The plan Leggett announced in January 2024 said production at the affected plants would move into other Leggett facilities or, in a few cases, be eliminated, according to its 8-K. Leggett said then that it had begun sending WARN letters and would send more as it finalized its decisions, Manufacturing Dive reported, so the site-by-site answer came in those letters. Whether the people move with the work is a separate matter. When Leggett shut its Spring Hill and Tampa sites in Florida before that plan and moved the work to a larger site in Plant City, 37 of the 89 workers were laid off and the rest transferred, the same report said, citing Leggett's letters to the state, so 52 of them kept a job by moving with it. If the work at your plant is going to another Leggett plant, the drive to that plant and whether its jobs are open to you decide whether following the work is a real choice.

At more than one Leggett plant, the notice released people in stages, as LEX18, Furniture Today and Georgia's WARN record each show. If you hold a notice from a plant that's closing in phases, your own separation date is the one that counts for you, and it can come weeks after the first people leave. If yours does, that stretch can be time to look for work before your own last day.

When Leggett's board approved the 2024 plan, the company told K105 that its Leitchfield plant would remain open, and in October 2026 it said that plant would close too, so staying off one plan's list didn't settle Leitchfield's future. The company's statement on the closing said the decision was in no way related to the abilities or productivity of the people who worked there. For anyone from Leitchfield, that line is worth keeping for job interviews, since it puts the reason for the closing on the company.

Somnigroup's merger with Leggett took effect on August 26, 2026, K105 reported, and the merger proxy said Leggett was expected to keep its Carthage, Missouri offices and run as a separate business unit, as Tempur Sealy, Mattress Firm and Dreams do inside Somnigroup. If you worked for Leggett or one of its subsidiaries right before the merger took effect, stayed on as an active employee afterward and lose your job within 12 months of August 26, 2026, whatever severance terms applied to you before the merger are the measure the agreement sets, unless a union contract requires otherwise, which makes a copy of those terms useful to hold on to. The agreement also says its employee terms are solely for the companies' benefit and gives employees no third-party rights.

Not every Leggett notice marks a permanent cut. In March and April 2020 more than 900 Carthage employees were temporarily laid off without pay because of COVID-19, KOAM reported from Missouri's notices, and those notices, for layoffs the company said were meant to be temporary, count among the 45 Leggett filings in our WARN tracker. That total mixes temporary layoffs with permanent closings. Leggett's headcount needs the same care. It fell in 2025 on a net basis, partly because the aerospace business it sold that August had about 700 employees when it was sold, according to its 10-K for 2025, so the change isn't a count of layoffs. Anyone from the 2025 and 2026 closings can find how unemployment benefits work in Kentucky, Georgia, Mississippi and California.

What to do if you're laid off from Leggett & Platt

Leggett & Platt layoff and severance questions

What severance has Leggett & Platt given laid-off employees?

Reports on Leggett's recent closings describe pay tied to a closing notice and help finding work. Leitchfield workers are to get pay and benefits for no less than 60 days counted from formal notice, K105 reported; at the Georgetown closing announced in September 2025, Leggett said it was exploring outplacement help, according to LEX18; and in 2024 it told Furniture Today it would help High Point workers by identifying career opportunities at nearby Leggett & Platt facilities.

Did the Somnigroup merger change severance for Leggett & Platt employees?

For 12 months after the merger, or until their employment ended if sooner, people employed by Leggett or its subsidiaries just before it who stayed on as active employees were to get a pay rate at least equal to before and severance benefits and protections no less favorable than before, unless a union contract required otherwise, under the merger agreement the merger proxy describes. That agreement also says it guarantees no one's employment and that no employee is a third-party beneficiary of it.

How many WARN notices has Leggett & Platt filed?

There are 45 in our WARN tracker, counting Leggett's subsidiaries' filings and going back to 1990, and three of them, covering 313 jobs, are from 2026. The Georgetown and Leitchfield closings in Kentucky aren't among them, because our Kentucky archive has no rows from 2017 until December 2025 and none from Leggett after that.

Did Leggett & Platt move jobs to Mexico?

In late 2025 Leggett consolidated its Kentucky adjustable bed manufacturing into its Mexico operation, citing lower volume and tariffs on imported components in its 10-K for 2025. That filing also lists an exit from its Mexican innerspring operation among its 2024 restructuring steps.
