Lockheed Martin layoff history

Lockheed Martin has often tied its cuts to program changes or to specific program decisions. That doesn't make losing the job any less rotten, but it does tell you where to look. In June 2025 Lockheed pointed to the Air Force not extending an F-16 depot contract for about 180 cuts in Greenville, South Carolina. A spokesperson tied 176 Sikorsky layoffs at Patuxent River in 2023 to the CH-53K test program reaching its planned end. For 64 cuts in Andover, Massachusetts, in 2025, the explanation was program changes, none named, at the site that was GridStar Flow's single home, and the Boston Globe found the battery's Fort Carson pilot had since been discontinued.

The filings show a narrower slice. Our WARN tracker holds 2 filings covering 81 jobs since the start of 2025. Andover's notice for 64 jobs, filed in May 2025, is one. The other, filed in June, covers 17 jobs at Fort Bliss, Texas, at a site maintaining Army training aids and simulators, with no reason reported. Greenville isn't among them, and 2026 has none in our tracker. All told the tracker holds 110 Lockheed filings, at a company that employed about 122,000 people worldwide in mid-2025.

The other thread running through Lockheed's statements is another Lockheed job. The 2023 cut of 800 Rotary and Mission Systems positions out of 35,000 was to come partly through redeployment. That fall Sikorsky said it meant to retain everyone it could for open business-critical jobs, and when Aeronautics cut 200 in Fort Worth and 100 in Marietta and Palmdale in January 2024, Lockheed said it was helping all of them look for other roles in the company. An actual transfer offer can change how WARN counts your exit. The Labor Department's general guide to WARN says that when an offer comes out of consolidating or relocating the business and arrives before the layoff, a job within a reasonable commute means WARN doesn't count an employment loss, whether you accept or decline. For a job beyond a reasonable commute, WARN counts an employment loss unless you accept within 30 days. If an internal move comes up, ask HR to write down the location, start date and pay before you reply.

On money, Lockheed's filings say more than its statements. The FY2025 10-K records $92 million in 2023 severance and other charges for a planned reduction of positions across the corporation, and says the people let go got lump sums based primarily on years of service. In 2024 it booked $87 million, including severance from a Sikorsky review the company tied partly to FARA's cancellation, and in 2025 $66 million, mostly fixed assets written off after the Air Force's NGAD down-select. The same note says Lockheed can generally recover part of its severance costs through the prices it charges the U.S. government and other customers later. Nothing on record says any recent round matched the 2011 headquarters formula. Service years were the main input to the 2023 lump sums, though, so check the years on your paperwork against your own hire date before you sign.

What to do after being laid off from Lockheed Martin

  1. File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Lockheed Martin's biggest hubs: Texas, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
  2. Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Lockheed Martin's hub states run: Texas, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and every other state is here.
  3. Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
  4. Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
  5. Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

Lockheed Martin layoff and severance questions

Is Lockheed Martin laying off employees in 2026?

Our tracker holds no Lockheed filings dated 2026. The newest are the May 2025 notice for 64 jobs in Andover, Massachusetts, and June's 17 at Fort Bliss, Texas. Lockheed's 10-K put its 2025 charge mostly toward writing off fixed assets after the Air Force's NGAD down-select, without mentioning severance.

How much severance does Lockheed Martin pay?

No formula for any 2024 or 2025 Lockheed round is on record. The 10-K says people let go in its 2023 reduction got lump sums based primarily on years of service, with no weeks-per-year figure. The one reported formula is older, from a 2011 voluntary program at headquarters, and binds nothing since. If a package comes your way, ask in writing for the service years it counted, the math behind the number and the deadline on any release.

Why did Sikorsky lay off workers in 2024?

Sikorsky said it was making the April 2024 cuts after the Army canceled its Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft program, with up to 400 Connecticut workers affected. Lockheed's 10-K booked $87 million that year for impairments and severance from a Sikorsky review it tied partly to the cancellation. Six months earlier, Sikorsky cut 179 Connecticut positions, pointing to programs moving into production and material shortages.

Does Lockheed Martin have to give 60 days' notice before layoffs?

Sometimes. The Labor Department's WARN guide puts the federal rule at 60 days' written warning from employers of at least 100 full-time workers, among other tests, when a cut is big enough to count. A plant closing counts at 50 full-time job cuts at one site. A layoff without a closing counts at 500 there, or at 50 to 499 if that's at least a third of the site's full-timers. Workers who didn't get notice they were owed may be able to recover back wages and benefits covering as many as 60 days, depending on how much notice they got. The Fort Bliss notice, 17 jobs, is well under 50 on its own.

Did Lockheed Martin lay off workers in Fort Worth?

Yes, in January 2024. Aeronautics said it would lay off 200 at the Fort Worth F-35 plant, mostly overhead operations roles held by a mix of salaried and hourly workers, who were to leave in mid to late February. A spokesperson blamed parts shortages that had left some people without work. Lockheed had 18,700 workers in Tarrant County then.

Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Lockheed Martin?

In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Lockheed Martin's biggest U.S. hubs are Texas, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.

Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Lockheed Martin?

Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.

What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Lockheed Martin?

Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.

Should I sign the severance agreement right away?

First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Lockheed Martin?

Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
