Laid off from Lowe's.
Lowe's February 2026 cut of about 600 jobs came out of corporate and support roles, and the earnings call that explained it noted a $125 million bonus for frontline associates. Earlier rounds hit the stores too, including 2,400 mostly store-level jobs in 2017 and assembly work handed to contractors in 2019.

Lowe's cut about 600 corporate and support jobs in February 2026
On February 13, 2026, Lowe's told Reuters it was eliminating about 600 corporate and support roles, less than 1% of its workforce. North Carolina's notice listed 317 jobs, 178 at the Mooresville office and 49 in Charlotte, with layoffs set for April 19 through early May.

Lowe's layoff history
Lowe's explained its February 2026 cut in terms of the stores. A spokesperson told Reuters on February 13 that about 600 corporate and support roles, less than 1% of the workforce, were going to "better align our resources to support our stores." The delivery was blunter. Unverified posts from affected workers describe muted, anonymous group video calls with no chance to ask questions, and one account has people who missed the call learning only when their access to Lowe's systems stopped working. That's a lousy way to lose a job. The layoffs themselves were scheduled for April 19 through early May, so if your access ended in February, check which separation date your paperwork gives.
On the February 25 earnings call, Marvin Ellison said Lowe's commitment to "perpetual productivity improvement" was "at the center" of the cut and that the reduction "will help us create greater financial agility." He also noted a $125 million discretionary bonus for frontline associates' fourth-quarter work. No cost or savings figure for the cut is in the reporting we track, and the support Lowe's described to Reuters came without amounts. The Fair Labor Standards Act doesn't require severance, and the Labor Department calls it a matter of agreement between employer and employee, so what Lowe's owes you comes down to your own paperwork. Check the written offer Lowe's gives you, any severance plan that covers your role and any agreement you already signed, and read every line before you sign anything new. If severance promised under a company plan never arrives, the department's benefits agency, EBSA, may be able to help.
North Carolina's 10-page notice listed 317 jobs with titles in dozens of states, though most of the people were based in Mooresville and Charlotte. It put 178 at the Mooresville office and 49 at the Worthington Avenue office in Charlotte, across product management, recruiting, analytics, product design, supply chain and other back-office work. Rows dated within four days of it sit in our tracker for Arizona, Ohio, Kansas and Maryland, so if you worked remotely, check the North Carolina notice for your title and our WARN filings tracker for a Lowe's row in your state. Federal WARN generally requires at least 60 days' notice in writing when an employer of 100 or more lays off 50 or more at one site, managers and supervisors included, and the Labor Department office that runs it doesn't pursue damages for short notice.
Our tracker holds 32 Lowe's filings all-time, and 9 filings covering 322 jobs since the start of 2025, across 6 states, every one dated 2026. One of those isn't from a Lowe's store or office. Great Floors, an Artisan Design Group subsidiary, told Washington it would close five stores in Puyallup, Seattle, Shoreline, Redmond and Yakima, affecting 58 workers and citing "economic factors." Lowe's bought ADG for $1.325 billion in 2025, the year it also paid $8.8 billion for Foundation Building Materials, and the tracker counts companies Lowe's owns. Separations were set for January 12 through March 13, 2026, and workers were encouraged to apply at other locations; the tracker dates the row to that first day of separations, not to the filing. Ellison said in February that integrating FBM and ADG was focused on "capturing cost synergies," and nothing in the reporting we track links job cuts at either one to it.
Lowe's has cut from offices and stores alike before, and what it offered then is on record. A 2017 tech cut came with a competitive severance package, outplacement and a job fair, Orchard Supply staff got outplacement and priority for other Lowe's jobs when all 99 stores closed in 2018, and the 2019 assemblers and maintenance workers were promised transition pay and a shot at open positions. The tracker still holds the North Carolina filings from the February 2017 corporate cut, 431 jobs in Mooresville and 75 in Wilkesboro. Those offers belonged to other years and don't bind this one. Whatever you're handed, ask for the separation date, the date benefits stop and any severance figure in writing before you sign, and look up your state's filing in the tracker.

What to do after being laid off from Lowe's
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Lowe's's biggest hubs: North Carolina, Washington, Ohio. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Lowe's's hub states run: North Carolina, Washington, Ohio, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Lowe's layoff and severance questions
How many people did Lowe's lay off in 2026?
Lowe's put its February round at about 600 corporate and support roles. Our tracker counts 9 filings covering 322 jobs since the start of 2025, every one dated 2026, led by 178 at the Mooresville office. The Kansas and Arizona notices each appear twice, once without a job count, and 58 of the jobs belong to Great Floors workers in Washington, counted because Great Floors is an Artisan Design Group subsidiary and Lowe's bought ADG in 2025.
Does Lowe's pay severance to laid-off corporate employees?
In February 2026 Lowe's said it was committed to backing laid-off staff with financial assistance, continued benefits for a while and career transition resources, and no terms on record give amounts. A 2017 tech-layoff memo promised a competitive severance package. The federal wage law, the FLSA, doesn't require severance, so your written offer, any severance plan covering your role and anything you already signed are where the real terms live, and EBSA may be able to help if severance owed under a company plan isn't paid.
Were remote Lowe's employees part of the 2026 layoffs?
Yes. The North Carolina notice listed titles in dozens of states, and the staff not based in Mooresville or Charlotte were remote or in other cities. Our tracker holds February 16 rows with 12 jobs in Arizona and 17 in Ohio, plus Kansas and Maryland rows naming Charlotte or Mooresville as the worksite.
Has Lowe's laid off IT workers before?
Yes. It cut 96 corporate tech jobs in October 2016 and about 125 more in 2017, moving many of those functions to Bangalore, India. In late 2023, workers posted on Reddit that the whole IT support department, around 200 people by their count, was going to an overseas contractor; those accounts are unverified, and Lowe's made no official announcement.
Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Lowe's?
In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Lowe's's biggest U.S. hubs are North Carolina, Washington, Ohio. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.
Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Lowe's?
Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.
What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Lowe's?
Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.
Should I sign the severance agreement right away?
First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.
Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Lowe's?
Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
