Laid off from LPL Financial.

LPL Financial's June 2025 and February 2026 home-office layoffs reached vice presidents and left out the advisors who generate its revenue. Firms LPL bought have seen cuts too, first Atria, which it planned to absorb, then Commonwealth, whose culture and brand it pledged to keep.

What LPL Financial layoffs have meant for employees

If you work in an LPL home office, the June 2025 and February 2026 cuts landed on your side of the business, and senior titles didn't keep people out of them. Nearly half the jobs in the 2026 San Diego notice carried a vice president title, by Hoodline's account of the Union-Tribune's reporting, and Financial Planning placed the June 2025 terminations largely in the leadership ranks. Those counts can't show whether rank changed anyone's odds, only that managers and vice presidents were among those cut. InvestmentNews set the February 2026 cuts in an era of AI software replacing back-office jobs, but LPL's own quoted statement named a firm-wide review, so that link is the publication's framing and doesn't come from the company.

For anyone at a firm LPL bought, the calendar is the useful part of this record. LPL's FY2025 10-K dates the Atria purchase to October 2024 and the end of its conversion to LPL's platform to July 2025, the same month Atria's San Diego and Houston cuts were due. Commonwealth's back-office cuts surfaced in a July 2026 report, while the 10-K expected that firm's conversion in the fourth quarter of 2026. Two deals give a chronology and no forecast. If your firm is still being folded in, it's worth knowing when its conversion is planned and whether your role continues after it.

What LPL said about those deals also shows the limits of a pledge. In May 2025 a spokesperson told InvestmentNews that “There’s never been the notion that Atria would be a standalone enterprise,” and described the Commonwealth deal as designed to keep the firm’s culture, brand and service. A little over a year later, the July report said LPL still intended to keep the Commonwealth brand, while one unnamed senior executive described staff being told to look for matching jobs at LPL. A brand can stay while the home-office jobs behind it go, so a pledge about culture says little about your own seat.

LPL has answered layoffs by pointing to open jobs, about 200 in a 2013 statement, nearly 140 in 2017, more than 360 in 2025 and more than 300 in February 2026. Its June 2025 and February 2026 statements paired the cuts with growth elsewhere, in what it called priority areas, so a count of openings describes the company and says little about your team. In 2017, Financial Planning reported, 121 of the nearly 140 were in the Carolinas, where the work was headed, and the spokesman’s “We are not eliminating jobs” held only across the whole company, since 112 people were due to lose theirs. An LPL opening is one option among several, and it's fair to judge it by its city and level the way you'd judge any other employer's. Atria's staff got a personalized application process and Commonwealth's were encouraged to explore LPL, though an invitation to apply isn't a promised place.

When LPL moved work to Fort Mill, a chance to follow it reached only some of the people doing it, and when it outsourced San Diego work, the jobs left the company altogether. If you're offered a relocation, moving costs and the job market where you live now are fair things to set against it. California's benefits rules cover San Diego, Texas's cover Houston, New York's cover Syracuse, and Massachusetts's cover the state where Commonwealth is headquartered. If a package reaches you, how severance negotiation works sets out what's commonly in play.

LPL Financial layoff and severance questions

What severance has LPL Financial given laid-off employees?

LPL's filings give company-wide expected charges, about $12 million, primarily severance, in its December 2008 8-K and $9.2 million covering severance, retention and benefits in its July 2009 8-K. Its 2026 proxy makes executives at group managing director level and above eligible for a year of base salary, an amount equal to the latest annual bonus and a year's COBRA subsidy after a qualifying termination. Those filings, InvestmentNews and Financial Planning give no per-person figure for staff below that level, and InvestmentNews said Commonwealth's severance details weren't clear.

Are LPL financial advisors being laid off?

Not in the 2025 and 2026 home-office rounds. InvestmentNews reported that no LPL financial advisors were involved in the February 2026 layoffs, and Financial Planning said the workers losing their jobs in June 2025 wouldn't be advisors.

Is Commonwealth Financial Network laying off employees after the LPL deal?
