NBCUniversal's newest filings landed at Universal City in July 2026

The most recent notices in our tracker are dated July 17, 2026 at Universal City, one listing 87 jobs and another 55, which puts 2026 at five filings covering 273 jobs. They came a month after NBCUniversal folded UCP and Universal International Studios into Universal Global Television, a consolidation Deadline tied to realignment following the January separation of the cable networks into Versant.

Comcast finished separating Versant Media Group into its own public company just before midnight Eastern on January 2, 2026. CNBC, MS NOW, USA Network, Golf Channel, Oxygen, E! and SYFY went with it. NBC, Telemundo, Universal, Peacock and Sky stayed at NBCUniversal, and Bravo stayed too. Your paperwork names one of those two employers, which is how you know whose benefits process to ask about, though your own agreement and plan documents are what set the actual terms.

Our WARN tracker holds 18 all-time filings under NBCUniversal names, 10 of them since the start of 2025 covering 464 jobs, and all of that recent activity sits in California and New York. 2026 accounts for five filings and 273 jobs, the largest a 123-job New York notice dated March 13. The rest cluster on the Universal City lot, where notices arrive under building-numbered entity names, so the newest pair on record, both dated July 17, 2026, list 87 jobs and 55 jobs at separate addresses on the same day. One reorganization there can look like four small filings instead of a single large one, which matters when you're searching state records for the notice that covers you.

The rounds themselves started well before the split closed. In late April 2025, a few dozen jobs went across television and streaming, cuts insiders described as surgical next to the sweeping ones before them. On October 15, 2025, NBC News cut about 150 staffers, a number widely reported as roughly 7% of the newsroom, though Deadline cited a source putting it nearer 2% of the wider news group and traced the 7% figure to the Status newsletter. Staff were told the reason was that NBC News would stop gathering news for MSNBC and CNBC once both moved to Versant. Teams covering Black, Asian American, Latino and LGBTQ+ communities were hit hard, and fewer than 20 more roles went in the Television Entertainment Group the same week.

Severance gets specific in one place on this record and stays quiet in another. For the October 2025 news round, Deadline reported severance and outplacement services plus 60 days of notification and benefits support, attributed to a source, with no dollar figure in the reporting we track, and affected staff could apply for 140 openings elsewhere in the news group. The one package with numbers attached belongs to something else. When NBCUniversal moved hybrid staff to four days a week in the office from January 5, 2026, the COO's memo told anyone at VP level or below who wouldn't comply that they might qualify for a voluntary exit assistance package, and reporting on internal documents put that at eight weeks of pay plus three months of medical, dental and vision coverage, with a full bonus if eligible and nothing extra for length of service. That covered a voluntary exit rather than a layoff, and staff in the divisions heading to Versant were excluded from both.

Union standing changed the outcome in at least one round. In early March 2026, 100 unionized janitors got layoff notices, one of them by text message, and after days of bargaining SEIU-United Service Workers West said the company agreed to re-hire them, about an hour before a planned protest. IATSE, which represents film technicians on the lot, turned out alongside them. If a contract covers you, read it before any company policy. First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from NBCUniversal?
