Laid off from Neiman Marcus.

Neiman Marcus cut about 5% before the Saks deal, then watched the merger take duplicative roles, three stores, and eventually the parent into bankruptcy. Its Dallas workforce has absorbed every stage, and its filings now arrive under Saks names while the parent calls itself Exemplar Luxury Group.

Neiman Marcus layoff history

Your layoff paperwork probably doesn't say Neiman Marcus at the top. The Massachusetts filing for the Boston store went in as Saks & Company LLC doing business as Neiman Marcus, and the Texas notice for downtown Dallas arrived as SAKS GLOBAL (Neiman Marcus). The corporate name above the stores has moved twice in under two years, first when Saks Fifth Avenue's parent completed its $2.7 billion purchase of Neiman Marcus Group in December 2024 and formed Saks Global, then when that company left Chapter 11 in June 2026 and renamed itself Exemplar Luxury Group. The store name never moved at all, which is exactly why people lose track of their own filing.

Our tracker holds 28 all-time filings under the Neiman Marcus name, and 3 filings covering 141 jobs since the start of 2025. The two newest are both bankruptcy closures, 73 jobs on a February 10, 2026 filing in Boston and 67 on a June 12, 2026 filing in Dallas. Scale that against the parent and the split is stark. Neiman Marcus went into the case with 36 full-line stores and came out having closed three of them plus downtown Dallas, while Saks Fifth Avenue lost half its full-line fleet, and by March the company had announced 20 Saks closures against four Neiman ones. The reason sat in a court filing, where chief restructuring officer Mark Weinsten told the court the group's stores face competition in certain markets from one another.

For anyone owed money, January 13, 2026 is the line that matters. That was the petition date, and Saks Global said bankruptcy law required it to suspend every severance payment owed to former employees under agreements signed before it, telling people so by email nine days later. Those balances turned into claims, and the debtors asked the court to set April 13, 2026 at 4 p.m. Central as the last date for ordinary claimants to file a proof of claim. That deadline has gone, the plan was confirmed on June 5 and took effect on June 26. If you never filed, the one thing still worth checking with the claims agent is whether your severance was listed in the company's own schedules, because a scheduled claim counts as filed unless it was marked disputed, contingent or unliquidated.

Dallas is where the current round lands. Saks Global confirmed the downtown store closes on September 30, 2026, said it had spoken with the City of Dallas and called the decision final, which is worth knowing because a closure of the same store was announced in 2025 and then talked back. The notice sent to the Texas Workforce Commission on June 12 covers 67 people across sales, tailoring and restaurant staff, records that they have no union and no bumping rights, and sits behind the company's statement that transfers to NorthPark Center would go to a significant percentage of them while eligible employees not offered one would get appropriate separation packages. Transfer talks were still in process when that went out. If an offer reaches you, ask for the separation terms in writing next to it, because nothing in the reporting we track sets out package terms for a Neiman Marcus round.

Look yourself up in our WARN tracker under the Saks names as well as Neiman Marcus, since that's how the last two years of filings were entered. Texas rules cover the downtown Dallas store and Massachusetts covers Boston. Our Saks Global page carries the parent's side of the same bankruptcy, and the claims agent's case page is where the docket and the schedules sit.

Reporting on previous Neiman Marcus layoff rounds

  • 2026, under the parent's bankruptcy · The February closure list took the Boston store on a filing covering 73 jobs, three Neiman Marcus locations closed in all out of 36 full-line stores, and the Texas notice for downtown Dallas covers 67 jobs on September 30

Saks Global said transfers to the NorthPark Center store would be offered to a significant percentage of the Dallas staff, with those discussions still in process, and that eligible employees not offered one would get appropriate separation packages. Severance owed from before January 13, 2026 was suspended and became a claim in the case.

  • April 2025, integration · About 550 people, 3% of the combined workforce, Neiman Marcus store employees among them, with roughly 300 of the cuts at corporate offices in Manhattan, Dallas and other locations

  • February 2023, before the deal · About 500 people, less than 5% of the workforce, 100 of them corporate, in what the company called a strategic realignment

No terms on record. Chief executive Geoffroy van Raemdonck said departing associates would be supported with severance and other benefits.

How Neiman Marcus's layoffs compare to other companies

The calendar is the part that transfers to anyone else's layoff. This case opened on January 13, 2026, set a claims deadline of April 13, confirmed a plan on June 5 and closed the books on June 26. A bankruptcy runs on the court's schedule rather than on how long it takes a laid-off person to work out that they were owed something. If your employer files, find the claims deadline in the first week, not the first month.

What to do after being laid off from Neiman Marcus

  1. File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Neiman Marcus's biggest hubs: Texas, Massachusetts, New York, California. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
  2. Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Neiman Marcus's hub states run: Texas, Massachusetts, New York, California, and every other state is here.
  3. Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
  4. Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
  5. Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

Neiman Marcus layoff and severance questions

Will laid-off Neiman Marcus workers get their severance?

It depends which side of January 13, 2026 your agreement sits on. Saks Global said bankruptcy law forced it to stop paying severance owed under agreements entered into before that date, and what was owed turned into claims in the case. The deadline to file one was April 13, 2026, and the plan took effect on June 26. Nothing in the reporting we track says what that class of claim is being paid, so treat any recovery as money you can't budget around.

What was the reemployment forfeiture in Neiman packages?

No terms on record describe one. Nothing in the reporting we track sets out a severance formula for any Neiman Marcus round, including whether payments stopped when someone found another job. What's on record is thinner. The company said in 2023 that departing associates would get severance and other benefits, and in 2026 that Dallas employees not offered a transfer would get appropriate separation packages. Your own agreement is the document that answers this, so read its reemployment and offset clauses before you sign or accept anything.

Is Neiman Marcus the same company as Saks now?

They have sat under the same owner since December 2024, when Saks Fifth Avenue's parent bought Neiman Marcus Group. That owner has since renamed itself twice, first to Saks Global at the deal and then to Exemplar Luxury Group on leaving Chapter 11 in June 2026. The Neiman Marcus store name stayed put through all of it. This page follows Neiman Marcus workers, and our Saks Global page covers the parent and its bankruptcy.

Why does my Neiman Marcus WARN notice say Saks?

Because the filings went in under Saks names. The Massachusetts notice for the Boston store reads Saks & Company LLC doing business as Neiman Marcus, and the Texas notice for downtown Dallas was signed by an associate general counsel for Saks Global. Search state records and our tracker under the Saks names as well as Neiman Marcus, or your own layoff won't come up.

Is the downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus closing?

Yes, on September 30, 2026. Saks Global confirmed the date, said it had spoken with the City of Dallas and called the decision final, which matters because a closure of the same store was announced in 2025 and then called off. The Texas notice covers 67 jobs across sales, tailoring and restaurant staff, and the company said transfers to the NorthPark Center store would be offered to a significant percentage of them.

Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Neiman Marcus?

In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Neiman Marcus's biggest U.S. hubs are Texas, Massachusetts, New York, California. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.

Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Neiman Marcus?

Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.

What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Neiman Marcus?

Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.

Should I sign the severance agreement right away?

First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Neiman Marcus?

Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
