Laid off from onsemi.
Some onsemi sites have closed, like its South Portland offices in 2024. For others it found buyers, and the buyers of its Maine fab in 2022 and its Pennsylvania fab in 2026 said they'd offer jobs to the people working there.

The most recent onsemi layoff we've found
In July 2026, onsemi agreed to sell its 200mm fab in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, to Silex Microsystems for $40 million in an asset deal that Evertiq reported was expected to close around the turn of 2027 and 2028, pending CFIUS approval. Silex said it plans to offer jobs to the roughly 130 people working at the site.
What onsemi layoffs have meant for employees
onsemi's recent rounds have arrived as worldwide numbers. When 2024 ended, the company counted nearly 26,400 people working full time across 33 countries, Reuters reported, and the plan it began in February 2025 called for about 2,400 layoffs across all its business divisions, roughly 9 percent of that full-time headcount. The January 2026 plan was framed the same way in the second-quarter 10-Q, as a further reduction of the global workforce, and the most recent layoffs on record, which Eurofound logged in May 2026, were announced at its plant in the Czech Republic. If you're working out whether your own job is part of a round, a state layoff notice or a local report that names your site tells you more than the company-wide count does.
Several times onsemi has left a fab by selling it. In 2022 it sold wafer fabs in Belgium, South Portland, Pocatello and Japan, its 2022 10-K shows, and signed wafer supply agreements with the buyers, LA Semiconductor in Pocatello among them. At South Portland the buyer, Diodes, said all workers would be offered jobs and that no relocations were planned, Mainebiz reported, and onsemi's chief executive said the transactions "provide employees at the affected fabs with continued employment" while letting onsemi move production from those fabs to its other manufacturing sites. If your plant is being sold and you're offered a job by the buyer, it's worth comparing that offer's pay, benefits and treatment of your years of service with whatever leaving onsemi would bring. The newest case is Mountain Top. Under a sale Evertiq reported in July 2026 as set to close near the end of 2027 or the start of 2028 if CFIUS signed off, Silex planned to offer employment to the people working at the plant.
South Portland also shows where that stops. onsemi had been there since 2016, when it took over the plant with Fairchild Semiconductor. The plant went to Diodes, but onsemi kept its offices on Running Hill Road, and the jobs there ended when it closed them in 2024. A spokesperson told Mainebiz the company had offered relocation where possible, and relocation was part of the 2024 consolidation, though the 2025 10-K counts it for far fewer people than the layoffs. If you're offered a transfer, the site, the role and the date you'd start are the terms that decide whether it's worth more than a search closer to home. For anyone let go in Maine, Maine unemployment benefits sets out the state's claim process.
The same consolidation made staying part of the deal for some people. Certain employees given notice had to work through a retention period before their severance came due, the 10-K notes, and onsemi booked the expense across that service period, which makes the last day a condition of the payment for the people it covered. If your severance depends on staying through a date, leaving early for another job can cost you that payment, so the required service date and a new job's proposed start are the two dates to line up, with the severance amount riding on any gap between them.
For onsemi's San Jose sites, the matching state page is California unemployment benefits; for the Scottsdale headquarters it's Arizona unemployment benefits; and for the Mountain Top fab Silex agreed to buy, it's Pennsylvania unemployment benefits. For Pocatello, Idaho, it's Idaho unemployment benefits.

What to do if you're laid off from onsemi
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. onsemi's biggest hubs: California, Arizona, Maine, Idaho. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what onsemi's hub states run: California, Arizona, Maine, Idaho, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
onsemi layoff and severance questions
Is onsemi laying off employees in 2026?
Yes. A plan begun in January 2026 calls for about 650 more job cuts worldwide, and by early July about 600 people had been let go under it, figures from onsemi's second-quarter 10-Q show. In May its Czech unit also announced 200 layoffs at the Rožnov plant, a cut Eurofound logged in its restructuring monitor.
What severance has onsemi given laid-off employees?
onsemi's filings have reported severance by program. Severance and related benefit expenses for the 2025 cuts came to about $67.1 million, the 2025 10-K shows, while the 10-Q through July 3, 2026 expects about $25 million for the plan begun in January 2026; neither note sets a per-person formula. Some of those let go in 2024 first had to work beyond a minimum retention period to qualify for severance.
How many WARN notices has onsemi filed?
Of the 8 notices in our WARN tracker that match onsemi, 6 carry its own names, from 2011 to 2025, and 2 were filed before it owned the filers, Fairchild Semiconductor's in Utah in 2015 and GT Advanced Technologies' in Arizona in 2014. One is dated since 2025 began, a 51-job San Jose layoff from March 2025. The archive holds no Arizona records for 2022 through 2024 and none from Pennsylvania before 2023, so notices from those years can't appear in it.
Why is onsemi laying off workers?
onsemi has tied its recent programs to realigning manufacturing capacity with expected long-term needs and to consolidating manufacturing into fewer, common sites as part of its Fab Right strategy, its 2025 10-K shows, and the 2025 plan also cut sales and engineering roles in parts of the business it chose to deemphasize. The company cited weaker semiconductor demand and falling revenue, Eurofound recorded, for the May 2026 layoffs at its Czech plant.
