Laid off from Oracle.

Oracle's workforce shrank by about 21,000 in a single fiscal year, and it recorded $1.8 billion of restructuring cost against a plan estimated at up to $2.1 billion, without announcing the cuts. The severance on record is among the thinnest publicly reported at that scale, so know the mechanics before you sign anything.

Oracle's June 2026 annual report put numbers on the cuts

Oracle's fiscal 2026 annual report, filed 22 June 2026, set the total estimated cost of its restructuring plan at up to $2.1 billion, with $1.8 billion already recorded, and counted about 141,000 full-time employees at 31 May 2026, down from about 162,000 a year earlier. The filing describes the plan as strategic measures and operational efficiencies, including the adoption of AI technologies across certain functions. Our tracker holds 7 filings covering 1,778 jobs in 2026.

Oracle layoff history

If Oracle cut your job in 2026, you already know how the notice arrived. Reporting on that round describes an early-morning email signed Oracle Leadership that made the day it landed the recipient's last working day, with system access cut off at the same time. Oracle declined to announce the reduction, and the WARN notices filed with the states are what confirmed it had started. The company wouldn't comment on the Kansas City cuts either. So the numbers here come from filings rather than from an announcement, which makes them slower to arrive and harder to argue with.

The fiscal 2026 annual report put the size of it in money. Oracle booked $1,779 million of restructuring expense for the year, against $299 million the year before and $404 million the year before that, and set the total estimated cost of the plan at up to $2.1 billion, of which $1.8 billion was already recorded. Its own footnote says those segment costs related primarily to employee severance. The company had paid out $1,236 million of it during the year and still carried $567 million accrued at 31 May 2026. Headcount moved the same way, from about 162,000 full-time employees a year earlier to about 141,000 at the end of May 2026, which is roughly 21,000 fewer worldwide and 9,000 fewer in the United States across the two reports.

Where those jobs sat is only partly on the record. The biggest single notice our tracker holds is 539 jobs in Kansas City dated 31 March 2026, and that campus is the former Cerner headquarters. The filing said the site on Hillcrest Road wasn't closing and the cuts were permanent, with notifications between 27 and 31 March and terminations between 26 May and 1 June. The roles named were software developers, system analysts, program managers, IT and consulting, with no bumping rights. Oracle Health, built on the $28.3 billion Cerner acquisition, was reported as the hardest-hit unit at an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people, though that's an estimate and Oracle has confirmed no unit figure.

What the offer is actually worth turns on a few details in your own paperwork. Oracle counted the 60 days of WARN notice pay inside the severance formula rather than adding it on top, and for someone with ten years of service that 60-day period swallowed most of a 14-week entitlement, so ask in writing whether your number includes it. Where you worked matters too, because Oracle classified a large number of people as remote, which is what let it argue the site-based WARN threshold didn't reach them, and some of those workers had been on hybrid schedules near an office. Unvested stock is the last of them, since awards that hadn't vested by the termination date were forfeited rather than accelerated. Because the state filings are what made this round public in the first place, they repay reading directly, and our WARN page carries every Oracle notice we hold, 19 filings covering 2,657 jobs since the start of 2025 and 31 all-time. A tracker holds notices rather than a full count of who lost work.

How Oracle's layoffs compare to other companies

Four weeks plus one per year, capped at 26, sits at the bottom of the big-tech range. Meta's 16-plus-2 and Block's 20-plus-1 are the comparison points readers keep asking about.

What to do after being laid off from Oracle

  1. File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Oracle's biggest hubs: Texas, California, Washington, Missouri. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
  2. Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Oracle's hub states run: Texas, California, Washington, Missouri, and every other state is here.
  3. Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
  4. Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
  5. Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

Oracle layoff and severance questions

What severance did Oracle pay in the 2026 layoffs?

Reporting put it at four weeks of base pay for the first year of service plus one more week for each additional year, capped at 26 weeks, with one month of COBRA. No Oracle severance policy is in the record we track, so Tech Times and HR Executive both trace the formula back to an account Business Insider gave of the termination notices. That makes it attributed reporting rather than a filed plan document, and the agreement you were handed is the thing that binds.

Is Oracle's severance on top of WARN notice pay?

Reportedly no. Coverage of the 2026 round described Oracle meeting the federal 60-day notice requirement by putting people on 60 days of paid administrative leave, then counting that pay inside the severance formula rather than adding it. Tech Times worked the arithmetic for someone with ten years of service, whose 14-week entitlement was largely swallowed by the 60-day period. Ask in writing whether your figure includes notice pay, because the same headline number can be worth about two months more or less depending on the answer.

Can Oracle make me sign the release immediately?

Severance in the 2026 round was conditioned on signing a release waiving the right to sue, and when about 90 laid-off employees petitioned for better terms, Oracle answered that its terms were final. The same reporting describes 60 days of paid administrative leave before the termination date, so a deadline printed on a packet and the last day of employment weren't necessarily the same date. Nothing in the record we track sets out the review or revocation window Oracle applied, and what applies to you turns on facts an employment lawyer needs to see. Get the release read before the date on it passes.

Was I covered by the WARN Act if Oracle classified me as remote?

That classification is what the argument turned on. Tech Times reported Oracle treating a large number of workers as remote, which under the site-based threshold let the company argue those workers fell outside the law, and some of them said they had worked hybrid schedules near an Oracle office without knowing how they were classified. A class action firm opened WARN investigations covering Washington State and Kansas City in April 2026, then marked both closed with no public resolution announced. New Jersey workers argued their state law reaches employees statewide rather than by site. Confirm in writing how you were classified.

How many Oracle jobs were cut in my state?

Our tracker holds 19 filings covering 2,657 jobs since the start of 2025 across five states, and 31 all-time. Seven of those filings, covering 1,778 jobs, landed in 2026, led by 539 in Kansas City on 31 March and 475 in Seattle and remote roles on 1 June. A California notice dated 1 April listed 310. The filings themselves are on our WARN page. What the tracker counts is filed notices, not everyone who lost work, so a state with no row isn't a state where nobody was cut.

Were Oracle Health and the old Cerner teams hit hardest?

That's what the reporting says, without a company number behind it. Tech Times put Oracle Health, the division built on the $28.3 billion Cerner acquisition, at an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people, and People Matters carried that estimate back to Tech Times rather than confirming it separately. What's documented is the site. The 539-job Kansas City filing landed on the former Cerner headquarters campus, and the roles listed were software developers, system analysts, program managers, IT and consulting. Employee posts on Reddit, carried in that same reporting, describe the decline running since 2022 rather than arriving all at once, and those stay unverified accounts.

Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Oracle?

In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Oracle's biggest U.S. hubs are Texas, California, Washington, Missouri. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.

Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Oracle?

Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.

What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Oracle?

Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.

Should I sign the severance agreement right away?

First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Oracle?

Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
