Procter & Gamble layoff history

If you hold one of Procter & Gamble's non-manufacturing overhead roles, the plan the company laid out on June 5, 2025 is aimed at that kind of work and could reach you. P&G said that day it expected to reduce up to 7,000 non-manufacturing roles, about 15 percent of that workforce, over two years, and its 10-K says the restructuring runs across the Sector Business Units, Enterprise Markets, Corporate Functions and Global Business Services, with the reduction due by the end of fiscal 2027. P&G said specific impacts by region or site weren't available. Living with that kind of blank is hard, whether you're waiting to hear or already out. The Enquirer put P&G's Greater Cincinnati workforce at about 10,000 in September 2025, most of them office workers, and reported that an undetermined number of local jobs would be among those eliminated.

Progress reports have been steady and thin on specifics. Per the Motley Fool's summary of the April 24, 2026 earnings call, the reduction was on track for a 15% non-manufacturing decrease over two years, with a significant portion done by year-end. P&G's 10-K for the year ended June 30, 2026 says it incurred over half the plan's costs that year and expects the rest in fiscal 2027, and its restructuring table, which covers all of the year's restructuring, shows $608 million of separation costs incurred in fiscal 2026, against $145 million the year before. 24/7 Wall St. reported in September 2026 that P&G entered fiscal 2027 with about 104,000 employees. Our WARN tracker counts 3 Procter & Gamble notices in total and none in any state since January 2025.

On paper the plan reaches past offices too. P&G's filing lists brand and market exits and supply chain optimization, with costs mainly for separating employees and exiting facilities. The market exits on record so far are overseas. The Enquirer, citing Reuters, reported that P&G planned to wind down Pakistan and serve it through third-party distributors, after saying it would pull out of Bangladesh. The reporting we track names no U.S. plant closure under this plan. Plant moves predate it, like Augusta, Georgia in 2013, when a P&G spokesman said about 160 jobs would go as dry-detergent work moved to Louisiana. P&G also says it has historically run an ongoing level of restructuring, workforce optimization included, at $250 million to $500 million a year before tax.

No package terms for this round are on record, and what P&G has put in writing is the basis. Its 10-K says the separation costs it books relate to severance packages that are "primarily voluntary," with amounts calculated on salary levels and past service periods, so the service dates and salary an offer uses are the numbers to check first. Truepoint Wealth Counsel, a fee-only adviser, names the retiree health care plan, stock options and the Profit Sharing Trust as the key areas in a P&G package. Its questions are whether you qualify for retiree health care, whether an offer forfeits earlier LTIP or STAR awards, and how to reach PST stock without penalty if you leave before 55. Get those answers from HR in writing.

If your PST or another P&G plan account holds company shares, find out how they'd be taxed before you roll the account into an IRA, and find out what deadlines your plan paperwork sets. The IRS counts a payout of your entire balance from all of an employer's qualified plans of one kind, within one tax year, as a lump-sum distribution when it follows a separation from service. When that includes employer stock and the payer reports net unrealized appreciation in box 6 of Form 1099-R, the NUA generally isn't taxed until you sell, while rolling a lump sum into an IRA puts later withdrawals under regular IRA rules. Mandatory 20% withholding applies to most taxable lump-sum distributions an employer retirement plan pays directly to you, even if you plan to roll the money over within 60 days. Ask the plan for the NUA figure and have a tax preparer compare both versions.

In Ohio, severance generally trims unemployment for the weeks it's attributed to. Ohio Revised Code 4141.31 reduces a week's benefits by separation or termination pay received with respect to that week, and when nothing designates the period a payment covers, the state attributes your normal weekly wage to each week after you leave until the payment is exhausted. The state's September 2024 Worker's Guide, which carries an appendix on qualifying and disqualifying reasons for not working, said a decision on an application could take up to 3 weeks and that claimants should file weekly claims and report income while waiting. It listed two work-search requirements a week and a 21-day window for appeals. It told people to apply as soon as they lose their job, online at unemployment.ohio.gov.

What to do after being laid off from Procter & Gamble

  1. File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Procter & Gamble's biggest hubs: Ohio, Georgia. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
  2. Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Procter & Gamble's hub states run: Ohio, Georgia, and every other state is here.
  3. Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
  4. Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
  5. Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

P&G said site impacts weren't available, and our tracker shows no P&G WARN notice from 2025 on.

What severance does P&G give laid-off employees?

No terms for this round are on record. P&G's fiscal 2026 10-K says its separation costs relate to severance packages that are primarily voluntary, calculated on salary levels and past service periods. The Enquirer reported heavy use of buyouts in the 2012 restructuring. The document you're asked to sign sets your actual numbers.

The plan includes supply chain optimization and costs to exit facilities, but the reporting we track names no U.S. plant closure under it. Outside the U.S., P&G substantially liquidated its Argentina operations in 2024 and its Pakistan operations by June 30, 2026.

Does severance reduce unemployment benefits in Ohio?

Generally, yes. Ohio Revised Code 4141.31 reduces a week's benefits by separation or termination pay received with respect to that week, and when nothing designates the period a payment covers, the state attributes your normal weekly wage to each week after you leave until the payment is exhausted. The September 2024 Worker's Guide told people to apply as soon as they lose their job.

Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from Procter & Gamble?

In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. Procter & Gamble's biggest U.S. hubs are Ohio, Georgia. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.

Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at Procter & Gamble?

Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.

What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at Procter & Gamble?

Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.

Should I sign the severance agreement right away?

First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.

Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from Procter & Gamble?

Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
