Our tracker holds four RTX filings from 2026 covering 58 jobs, 55 of them on Raytheon's California notice of 27 February. One-job California notices followed in April and June, and the newest is an 18 August filing from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In July, CEO Chris Calio told analysts Collins was consolidating operations, increasing hours at best-cost locations and attacking overhead layers.

RTX layoff history
RTX's 2025 cuts centered on Collins Aerospace, and the annual report shows it. Restructuring costs, which RTX says generally arise from severance and facility exits, took $157 million more from Collins's 2025 operating profit than in 2024, a rise the filing ties to workforce reductions Collins started that year, while the same line improved at Pratt & Whitney and Raytheon. Collins's notices ran to 160 in Cedar Rapids effective 14 April, 119 at Chula Vista and 8 in El Segundo on California notices dated 14 March, and 131 more in Iowa in June. By October the company was describing a small number of positions cut across North America to reduce costs and reinvest in high-priority programs.
Our WARN filing tracker shows 131 RTX filings all time and 17 filings covering 297 jobs since the start of 2025. It undercounts Iowa. Its Iowa archive has no rows between May 2018 and January 2026, so Collins's 2025 Iowa layoffs sit outside those numbers, and the one Iowa row since 2025 is a Cedar Rapids filing from August 2026. Its biggest RTX filing since 2025 is the 119-job Chula Vista notice, then Raytheon's 97 in April 2025 and 55 in February 2026. California's 2024-25 WARN report lists Raytheon at 2000 E El Segundo Blvd for 137 in July 2024 and 97 in April 2025, and in between RTX filed notices along the same boulevard for one or two people, some naming a single building. Any California notice has to name the site, state whether the cut is permanent, give the first separation date, list each affected job title with its count and say, where they apply, whether bumping rights exist. From 2026 it also has to disclose whether the employer is working with the local workforce board on services, and EDD points suspected violations to the Department of Industrial Relations.
Pratt & Whitney's record is thinner. It confirmed a small amount of layoffs on 29 January 2025, some at East Hartford, without a number. In May about 3,000 IAM members in Locals 1746 and 700 ended a strike with a contract running to 4 May 2029, which the union says keeps East Hartford and Middletown operating through 2029, rules out involuntary layoffs if parts are subcontracted for more than 90 days without a return date, and adds a voluntary separation program. Across RTX, union-represented employees went from about 34,000 to about 32,000 over 2025.
Read the headcount with the sales beside it. RTX reported about 186,000 employees at the close of 2024 and about 180,000 a year later, roughly 6,000 fewer by subtraction. In July 2025 Collins's actuation and flight control business went to Safran with about 4,000 people, its eight main facilities in the UK, Italy, France and Asia, and Simmonds Precision Products followed in October. The Raytheon cyber and intelligence business had sold in March 2024 and Goodrich Hoist & Winch that October, and in July 2026 RTX reported a $620 million agreement to sell Blue Canyon Technologies. No filing on record splits the 6,000 among sales, attrition and layoffs.

What to do after being laid off from RTX

On the July 2026 earnings call, Chris Calio described a cost program at Collins, consolidating operations, increasing hours at best-cost locations and attacking overhead layers, and he put no headcount on it.
What severance did Collins Aerospace give laid-off employees?
The last terms on record come from the 2020 pandemic round. KDAT reported that August, citing the Cedar Rapids Gazette, that laid-off Collins employees would get a week's severance pay per year of service plus a transition payment of $3,000 to $6,000, with possible outplacement support. There are no terms on record since then. RTX's annual report says restructuring costs generally come from severance and facility exits but gives no formula. Treat the 2020 figures as history, and whatever you're offered, ask for the plan or agreement it comes from and a written calculation.
How much notice does RTX have to give before a layoff?
That depends on the state and the size of the cut. California's EDD says an employer of at least 75 people planning a closure, a relocation or layoffs of at least 50 inside 30 days generally owes written notice 60 days ahead. Iowa's law reaches employers with 25 or more employees and asks for 30 calendar days before a closure or mass layoff, while the federal WARN Act sets 60 days for employers of 100 or more. Collins's Chula Vista notice was dated 14 March 2025 for 12 May, and its June Iowa notice went out 12 June for 18 July.
Did Collins Aerospace lay off workers in Cedar Rapids?
At least three times in 2025, by the Corridor Business Journal's reporting. Collins laid off 160 there effective 14 April, notified 131 in June, 102 in Cedar Rapids and 29 in Decorah, and filed a 30 September notice for two more. Of those Iowa notices there are none in our tracker, because its Iowa archive has no rows between 2018 and January 2026, so check Iowa Workforce Development's own WARN log instead.
Are Pratt & Whitney union workers protected from layoffs?
Partly, and on specific terms. The IAM says the agreement about 3,000 members of Locals 1746 and 700 ratified in May 2025 keeps East Hartford and Middletown operating through 2029, rules out involuntary layoffs if parts are subcontracted for more than 90 days without a return date, and adds a voluntary separation program. It runs to 4 May 2029. That's the union's summary, so if you're in either local, ask your steward for the contract language behind it.
Where do I file for unemployment after being laid off from RTX?
In the state where you worked, not where the company is headquartered. RTX's biggest U.S. hubs are California, Iowa, Connecticut. Severance usually doesn't block you from filing, and benefits run from your filing date, so file the same week.
Is it OK to file for unemployment after a layoff at RTX?
Yes. Unemployment insurance is funded by payroll taxes employers pay on wages, the claim never appears on credit reports or background checks, and future employers cannot see it. If the hesitation itself is the obstacle, whether filing is OK has its own article.
What happens to my health insurance after a layoff at RTX?
Your plan sets the end date rather than the law, so the separation packet is where that date actually lives, and it is often the last day of the month rather than your last day of work. After coverage ends, COBRA lets you keep the identical plan by paying the whole premium yourself, up to 102 percent of what the plan really costs, which lands as several times the payroll deduction you were used to. You get 60 days to elect, counted from the later of coverage ending or the election notice arriving, and electing reaches the coverage back to the day the old plan stopped so no gap exists. How continuation coverage works walks the timing, and whether to take it rather than a marketplace plan is a separate decision.
Should I sign the severance agreement right away?
First pin down how much review time you actually have. If you're 40 or older, federal law gives you 21 days to consider an agreement that waives age claims, 45 in a group layoff, and a waiver signed under a shorter deadline can be invalid. If you're under 40, no federal window applies and the deadline in your packet may be real, so confirm it in writing and ask for more time if you need it. Use whatever window you have to read the release terms, especially non-disparagement and no-lawsuit clauses, and don't stall past a real deadline, because offers can be withdrawn.
Can I collect unemployment if I got severance from RTX?
Usually yes, though some states delay benefits until severance pay periods end, and lump sums are treated differently than salary continuation. Check your state's rules on our state benefit pages, and file immediately either way so your claim date is locked in.
