Laid off from Saputo.

The job cuts on record at Saputo center on plant closings, with the work handed to another Saputo site. At Green Bay the date moved. Saputo named that plant in 2023 to close by the end of 2024, and a 2025 letter to Wisconsin pushed the end to December.

The most recent Saputo layoff we've found

Saputo's August 6, 2026 results showed no restructuring costs for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, which ended June 30, 2026. Chief executive Carl Colizza had already called the Green Bay closure and the move to Franklin complete, according to MarketBeat's February 7, 2026 summary of an earnings call.

What Saputo layoffs have meant for employees

Fond du Lac, Belmont, Lancaster and Green Bay each had a named plant waiting to take the work, which tells you where production went and not whether a job went with it. Fond du Lac's production was headed to a new blue cheese plant in Almena, the November 2017 release said, and The Canadian Press had Lancaster's and Belmont's going to Reedsburg. Green Bay's packaging was bound for Franklin, a site Dairy Business tied to more than 650 jobs in southeastern Wisconsin, and South Gate's string cheese work was to go to Tulare in the plan Just Food reported. In Canada in 2020, Saint John's and Trenton's production was to move to other Saputo plants, according to Huddle Today. If you're offered a place at a receiving plant and severance is the alternative, the cost of getting there, a longer drive or a house move, belongs in the comparison.

Green Bay is the closing to study if your plant has been named, because its date moved after the terms went out. The letter to Wisconsin says staff learned of retention and severance pay the day the closing was announced and got the details in the weeks after, each employee with HR leadership. It also describes employees as being compensated above and beyond their standard or hourly pay rates. A later closing can change what a retention deal is worth, since it can mean more weeks of work to earn it or a longer wait for it, depending on how the terms were written. If retention pay is part of your terms, it's worth having in writing whether it pays on a set date or on the plant's last day, and whether leaving before a moved date costs you the money.

A state notice wasn't the first warning at these plants. Belmont's closing had been announced before its notice went in, the Lancaster notice in our tracker followed its November 2023 announcement by about three months, and the Green Bay letter came 31 months after that plant's closing was announced. At Green Bay and Lancaster, severance or transfer terms surfaced with the announcement, well before any letter reached the state. If you're waiting for a notice before you plan, Saputo's own announcement has been the earlier signal in each of those cases. That lead time is the useful part of this record, because it's when a retention offer, a transfer and a job search all get weighed together.

Plants aren't the only place severance shows up. Saputo's August 2026 results tie the severance costs booked a year earlier to stopping certain dairy ingredients and to optimizing selling, general and administrative costs. That's a company total, so it can't stand in for what any one person received. A union put its own view on record in 2016, when DairyReporter quoted a Teamsters representative saying the company needed to offer a much better severance package at Ottawa. If a local represents your plant, its stewards may know more about closing terms than any release says.

When a future employer asks why you left, a plant closing Saputo announced itself is a plain answer, and explaining a layoff can help you put it in a sentence. The account of Green Bay on the February 2026 call was about scale and streamlined processes, with chief executive Carl Colizza crediting them for a roughly 30% rise in Franklin's output, as MarketBeat's summary of the call tells it. If you were at a Wisconsin plant, Wisconsin unemployment benefits lays out what a claim involves there, and California unemployment benefits does the same for South Gate.

What to do if you're laid off from Saputo

Saputo layoff and severance questions

What severance has Saputo given laid-off employees?

Saputo's statements on record put no amount on severance, but they do describe its parts. A 2025 letter to Wisconsin says Green Bay staff were told of retention pay as well as severance, with HR leadership taking each employee through the details. The Canadian Press reported severance and outplacement support for Lancaster staff if no position was open elsewhere at Saputo, and the 2017 Fond du Lac release named outplacement support too.

Is Saputo laying off workers in 2026?

Our WARN tracker has no Saputo row dated 2026. It only counts what US state archives hold, so a cut in Canada, the UK or anywhere else abroad wouldn't appear there.

Is the Saputo plant closing in Green Bay the one in Suamico?

Yes. Saputo's September 2025 letter calls it the Green Bay plant, and Dairy Business places the same closing at 13190 Velp Ave. in Suamico, the city our tracker lists for that notice.

Can Saputo workers transfer to another plant when theirs closes?

Some have been offered that. Saputo told Just Food in 2023 that staff at three closing plants could relocate or take severance, The Canadian Press tied Lancaster moves to positions being available, and the 2017 release said only some Fond du Lac employees would be offered a transfer.

How many WARN notices has Saputo filed?

Our WARN tracker counts 8 rows since 2008, with 1 filing covering 240 jobs since the start of 2025. Seven are under Saputo names and one is from Morningstar Foods, filed in 2012 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, before Dean Foods sold that division to Saputo in January 2013, according to its 8-K filing. The rows also include 49 jobs at Dresser, Wisconsin, in April 2019.
