Laid off from thyssenkrupp.
Both American plant closings on thyssenkrupp's record since 2025 were planned as slow wind-downs tied to company sites in Ohio. Each was announced months before its final date and spread its job losses across stages, so coworkers at one plant were set to leave months apart.

The most recent thyssenkrupp layoff we've found
thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology said in September 2026 it would realign its chassis business from January 1, 2027, giving regions including North America more responsibility, and its September 30 release expected about 160 to 180 positions in Essen and Ennepetal, Germany to be affected.
What thyssenkrupp layoffs have meant for employees
thyssenkrupp's American layoffs on record since 2025, in state filings and press reports, came from companies inside the group that carry their own names. The Terre Haute closing was thyssenkrupp Presta North America's, as the company's Terre Haute closing release put it, and the Ohio plant that release pointed the work toward belongs to thyssenkrupp Bilstein of America. South Carolina's 2026 WARN report shows the Greer layoffs filed by thyssenkrupp Supply Chain Services. Florence was a mix, since LINK nky reported that the plant was run by Rotek Inc., a ThyssenKrupp subsidiary, while the closing letter to Kentucky came from ThyssenKrupp itself. If you're tracing your own site's record, searching under both the unit's name and thyssenkrupp's catches either kind of filing. In our WARN tracker, the three filings for those sites since January 2025 cover 394 jobs in Indiana, Kentucky and South Carolina.
At Terre Haute, the release counted about 230 employees and the notice 207 affected jobs, both before the phase-down was set to begin, and the dates are what vary from person to person. The notice WRTV described said each person's last day would be set individually as the phase-down went on, so a given worker's final shift could fall anywhere between the end of August and the March 2027 target rather than on the day the notice was filed. If your last day hasn't been named yet, it's worth keeping a dated note of every date and term you're told, since any final package is easier to check against your own record than against memory.
Both closings pointed toward Ohio. The Terre Haute release aimed the chassis production at Bilstein's shock absorber plant in Hamilton, which it said would be selectively strengthened through targeted staffing measures. The Florence letter tied that closing to consolidating the company's operations in Florence and Aurora. Neither the release nor the notice WRTV described says whether Terre Haute employees would be offered places in Hamilton, and LINK nky's account of the Florence letter leaves the same question open about Aurora. If you're at Terre Haute and would consider moving, you could tell plant management in writing that you'd want a Hamilton position if one opens.
thyssenkrupp's steel cuts in Germany were agreed through a union. thyssenkrupp Steel's July 2025 release laid out one collective agreement with IG Metall covering jobs, hours, bonuses and a social compensation plan, with both sides committed to avoiding compulsory redundancies. Up to 4,000 of the jobs in it are to be outsourced rather than cut, which is worth remembering when the steel total is quoted as a layoff count. Terre Haute and Hamilton both make products for Automotive Technology's chassis business. That segment announced a global cost program in a March 2025 release and, in a September 2026 release, a chassis reorganization whose workforce adjustments were set for Essen and Ennepetal in Germany.
South Carolina's report gives the Greer filing one planned layoff date, July 5, while the Terre Haute notice WRTV described laid out a phased process with each person's date still to be set. A state list's single line can carry less timing detail than the notice behind it, so its listed date is the filing's planned date rather than a promise about a particular worker's last day. If your site was among those with notices since 2025, our Indiana, Kentucky and South Carolina unemployment pages cover how a claim is made in each of those three states.
