Laid off from TransUnion.
TransUnion approved a plan in 2023 to cut jobs and move work to its own centers in India, South Africa and Costa Rica. Its Illinois layoffs came under that plan in 2024, and at its end in 2025 TransUnion had about as many employees as at the close of 2023.

The most recent TransUnion layoff we've found
At June 30, 2026, TransUnion still carried $3.8 million in accrued employee separation expenses for its transformation plan, which it said ended in 2025, down from $10.7 million when 2025 closed, its second-quarter 2026 report shows.
What TransUnion layoffs have meant for employees
TransUnion is based in Chicago, and its first Illinois notice turned out to be only part of the layoffs in the state. A supplemental filing added a second group, nearly doubling the state's count, according to Connect CRE, so not being in the first group didn't settle it for everyone on TransUnion's Illinois staff. Illinois logged that second group as a supplement to the first notice in its March 2024 report, tying both groups to the notice its November 2023 report lists. If your TransUnion job was in Illinois, Illinois unemployment benefits has the state's claim rules.
TransUnion had been building its Global Capability Centers since 2018 to centralize, standardize and automate work in places with deep talent pools, its November 2023 release said, and the plan sent them more. The same release called the plan the next step in an ongoing, multi-year transformation and put its aim in money, $120 million to $140 million a year in operating expense savings in 2026, measured against 2023. TransUnion's 10-K for 2025 describes the plan as having transitioned additional job responsibilities to those centers, and when the Illinois count grew in March 2024, TransUnion tied the Illinois cuts to the same move in a statement Connect CRE carried. TransUnion's CEO, Chris Cartwright, said on a February 2025 call that a centralized transition team documented work processes and trained new associates as more work shifted to the centers, and that TransUnion hired senior managers in the regions to lead them.
Company-wide, the work moved while the headcount held about steady. TransUnion counted about 13,200 people on its payroll as 2023 closed, in its 10-K for 2023, and about 13,500 two years later, in the 2025 filing, and the earlier report showed the share of its workforce based in the US shrinking each year from 2021. Taken together, the company kept its size and changed where its people sat, a shift under way before the plan that the plan pushed further.
For people leaving TransUnion, the terms rested on the company's own practices and on local law. Its 2025 filing describes severance and other benefits as calculated from long-standing benefit practices and local statutory requirements, with ongoing benefit arrangements in some jurisdictions, so terms could differ from one country's staff to another's. The same filing said that, other than certain employees in Brazil, none of its employees had union representation or worked under a collective bargaining agreement, and both TransUnion entries in Illinois' reports have No in the union column. If a TransUnion package reaches you, negotiating a severance agreement sorts out which parts of an offer can have room to move.
The plan's separation money is a company-wide accounting record that runs from 2023 to 2025. TransUnion booked $71.9 million of employee separation expense in 2023, the year of the announcement, made $75.7 million in separation payments in 2024, and was still booking separation expense in 2025, the plan's last year, at a far smaller $6.8 million. The total came in below the roughly $110 million it had expected, by the figures in the 2025 filing's restructuring note. Those amounts cover TransUnion's workforce worldwide, so they can't be split into an Illinois share or read as an individual's severance.
The Illinois figures cover the notice and supplement TransUnion filed with the state from its Chicago address. TransUnion had over 13,000 associates in more than 30 countries when it announced the plan, by its own release, and Connect CRE described the plan as reaching its global workforce, while Illinois holds the only TransUnion filing in our WARN tracker, the November 2023 notice filed from Chicago. So the Illinois count can't measure what the plan did in other offices or countries.

What to do if you're laid off from TransUnion
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. TransUnion's biggest hubs: Illinois. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what TransUnion's hub states run: Illinois, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
