Laid off from UKG.
UKG has cut jobs every year since 2023, though in April 2026 it said it had more employees than when it formed in 2020. The cuts have reached whole locations, with a decision to leave Uruguay and a closure notice for a Santa Ana office.
What we know about UKG severance and layoffs

- 307 Uruguay jobs in UKG's November 2025 decision to leave the country
- About 2,200 jobs in the July 2024 cut, primarily in the U.S.
- About 265 jobs in a 2023 cut
- 3 notices in our WARN tracker, all filed in California
The most recent UKG layoff we've found
UKG's newest round on record came in April 2026, when layoff notices went out by email on April 15 and, CBS12 reported, staff were told not to come to the office. UKG called it a restructuring of parts of its workforce.
What UKG layoffs have meant for employees
Rounded figures put UKG at about the same size just before its two largest cuts. The count reported for July 2024 implies a workforce of roughly 15,700, and the company's own April 2026 figures imply roughly 15,800, our arithmetic on the numbers in the Boston Herald and CBS12. When Anthony Presley wrote on LinkedIn that UKG had shed about a third of its team under private equity, the company disputed it in that same CBS12 report, with a spokesperson saying UKG had more employees than at the time of the 2020 merger. TechTarget found hiring still going on during the 2024 cut, especially in Noida, India. So if your role ended in that round, it ended at a company that was still hiring.
UKG's public growth plans haven't been much of a guide to what came next. The July 2024 layoffs were a shift from 2022, Inside INdiana Business reported, when UKG won state incentives tied to its Indianapolis hiring plans and said it would add 200 people there by the end of 2024. In Uruguay, UKG's local manager had announced plans to grow to 500 employees weeks before the company said it was leaving, according to Prensa Latina. Santa Ana moved from a layoff notice for 195 jobs in the state's July 2024 listing to a closure notice in its January 2026 listing. If your office is the one the company has been talking up, those histories show how little a growth plan can tell you about your own job.
Warning has been short, by the accounts on record. UKG moved the July 2024 news up from the following week because of speculation inside the company, WLRN reported, and some affected staff heard the same day. An employee post the Herald relayed said neither the writer's manager nor that manager's manager knew. In April 2026, a Reddit user quoted by HR Reporter called it the fourth layoff in just under three years and said people in the first found out when return packages came in the mail. Those are individual, unverified posts. Still, if you're at UKG now, they're a reason not to count on your manager hearing before you do.
A new chief executive didn't end the cuts either. Chris Todd wrote the 2024 email, and Jennifer Morgan, whom UKG brought in as chief executive that year, was running the company by April 2026. CBS12 reported that her push for what the company calls an "AI-first company" has included layoffs and moving some jobs overseas, and UKG's April statement named technology changes driven by AI among its reasons. For anyone wondering whether the cuts belonged to one leader's plan, the record runs across both.
State filings catch very little of this. Our WARN tracker shows no UKG notice in Florida, Massachusetts or Indiana, the places the reporting names, and none that matches the April 2026 round, and UKG declined to give an Indianapolis count in July 2024 and didn't respond on South Florida in April 2026. So finding nothing for your state there can't tell you your office was spared. If you're trying to place your own cut, the round's date and the reporting around it will tell you more than a filing count.
If you were asked to stay on for a period like the one in the memo posted on Reddit, the end date, whether severance depends on reaching it and what happens if you land a job first are what decide what that stay is worth. The notices and the reporting name four states, and our unemployment benefits pages for California, Florida, Massachusetts and Indiana cover how claims work in each one.
A sourced history of UKG layoffs
April 2026, global restructuring of about 950 jobs
UKG put the cuts at approximately 950 employees, or 6% of its workforce, and CBS12 reported many came from its Sunrise and Weston offices. A memo posted on Reddit, called purported by HR Reporter, had close to 600 leaving immediately and roughly 350 asked to stay for a transition.
January 2026, Santa Ana closure notice
A notice dated Jan. 15 listed 209 employees at 5 Hutton Centre, Suite 1100, typed as a permanent closure effective March 16, in California's WARN report.
November 2025, UKG decides to leave Uruguay
Managers said at the time that layoffs of the 307 employees would come gradually through mid-2026, and Uruguay's labor director said the decision came from UKG's U.S. offices, according to El Cronista. An extra cash payment and a course appear in Prensa Latina's report.
July 2024, about 2,200 jobs cut
CEO Chris Todd's email covered about 2,200 employees, the Boston Herald reported, and Inside INdiana Business put the cuts primarily in the U.S., across all departments. Notices dated July 11 listed 195 jobs in Santa Ana and 12 in San Francisco, in California's WARN report.
2023, about 265 jobs
HRKatha wrote in July 2024 that about 265 jobs, or about 1.7% of the global workforce, were cut a year earlier.
What to do if you're laid off from UKG
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. UKG's biggest hubs: California, Florida, Massachusetts, Indiana. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what UKG's hub states run: California, Florida, Massachusetts, Indiana, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
UKG layoff and severance questions
How many people has UKG laid off?
The two largest rounds on record are approximately 950 employees in April 2026, in the UKG statement CBS12 carried, and about 2,200 in July 2024, which the Boston Herald took from the chief executive's email. The November 2025 decision to leave Uruguay covered 307 employees, by El Cronista's count.
What severance has UKG given laid-off employees?
In July 2024, CEO Chris Todd's email offered severance pay, a prorated bonus for eligible staff, job search support, health benefits for a defined period and an employee assistance program, the Boston Herald reported. UKG's April 2026 statement in HR Reporter promised "comprehensive transition resources," and Prensa Latina reported a cash bonus and a course in Uruguay. None of these reports gives an amount or formula, so if UKG offers you a package, bonus eligibility and the health coverage end date are what the 2024 list left open.
How many WARN notices has UKG filed?
Three, all in California, appear in our WARN tracker, with 1 filing covering 209 jobs since the start of 2025. California's 2024 state report shows two from July 2024, and its 2026 state report shows the January notice for Santa Ana.
Why is UKG laying off employees?
UKG gave its own reasons for its two largest rounds. In July 2024 Todd said the changes would let it "aggressively focus on critical areas of growth," per the Boston Herald, and in April 2026 a spokesperson told HR Reporter the cuts reflected market shifts including AI, customer expectations and how software companies compete. For the Uruguay exit, the account is the country's labor director's, who said it had nothing to do with Uruguay and reflected business decisions made in the U.S., in remarks El Cronista carried.
Is UKG moving jobs to India?
CBS12 reported in April 2026 that UKG's changes have included moving some jobs overseas, likely to India, where it already has a presence. UKG didn't respond when TechTarget asked in July 2024 whether it was shifting more work there, though more than half of the 100 jobs TechTarget sampled on its corporate site were based in India. That sample shows where UKG was hiring rather than which jobs, if any, moved there.
