Laid off from WK Kellogg Co.
WK Kellogg Co's layoffs on record trace to a 2024 decision, made while it was a public company, to close its Omaha plant and cut back in Memphis. The plan went ahead after Ferrero bought it the next year, and Omaha production stopped months before the plant's original closing target.

The most recent WK Kellogg Co layoff we've found
Production at WK Kellogg Co's Omaha cereal plant had ended and the building was to be listed for sale, according to an August 2026 company statement to WOWT, sent the morning the plant's last remaining employees were expected to be laid off.
What WK Kellogg Co layoffs have meant for employees
For Omaha workers, the closing arrived sooner than the plan first said. The end-of-2026 target that WK Kellogg's 2025 second-quarter 10-Q still recorded gave way to an August end of operations in the letter WK Kellogg sent Nebraska, and the plan had been public for almost two years when the last layoffs were due, WOWT noted that month. So the long warning came with a short final stretch. The WARN letter set the final scheduled window, and on the morning the remaining layoffs were expected, the company said production had ended.
The two numbers attached to this plan measure different things. WK Kellogg's August 2024 release put the reduction at about 550 people, a net projection that already counted the hiring planned at Battle Creek, Lancaster and Belleville, Ontario, where production would rise. The two 2026 notices in our WARN tracker list 568 affected positions at the two plants, a gross count that subtracts no hiring and doesn't show who stayed on or transferred. Neither one is a tally of completed layoffs, and the hires behind the net figure were planned for Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ontario.
Memphis was set to keep running at a smaller scale. The plan scaled back production there, including the number of manufacturing platforms, and the 2024 release spoke of a more focused, streamlined facility, while FOX13 Memphis reported that the Memphis cut and the Omaha closing were part of a restructuring announced two years earlier and were being carried out. If a union contract covered your job at Frisco Avenue, the Tennessee memo says that contract governs; if one didn't, it says you had no bumping rights. The same memo says the Greater Memphis Local Workforce Development Area's rapid response team, employed by the Greater Memphis Chamber, was notified to coordinate services with the company and the people affected, and the area's Local Workforce Development Board oversees the dislocated worker services.
For union members, the closing ran through a contract as well as a plan. The agreement the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers union ratified with Kellogg in December 2021, after a strike at its U.S. cereal plants, included a moratorium on closing any of those plants through October 2026, the Detroit News reported when the plan was announced, and WK Kellogg's 10-Q called the plan subject to certain collective bargaining obligations. Neither the 10-Q, the WARN letter nor the Detroit News report explains how those obligations were settled for Omaha. If you were in the Omaha bargaining unit, which Local 50-G represented, it's worth checking with the local what the contract provided once the closing went ahead, including anything on severance or benefits.
For non-union staff, the sale brought a promise of its own. In the Ferrero merger agreement, the buyer agreed that for 12 months after the deal closed, or until an employee's job ended if that came first, each continuing employee's severance and termination benefits would be no less favorable than those in place just before the closing. Employees whose terms were covered by a union contract were left to that contract, and it says it creates no third-party beneficiary rights for any employee. The closing came on September 26, 2025, Ferrero's closing release says, so the Omaha layoffs, scheduled to end August 18, 2026, fell inside that year. By June 2025, before the sale, WK Kellogg had booked $20 million of severance and other termination benefits for the plan and expected a substantial portion of a $21 million reserve for severance and other costs to be paid in 2026, its 10-Q shows. If you were non-union, lost your job in that period and were offered severance, it can help to compare the offer with the terms that applied to you before the sale.
For the unemployment side, the rules for the two states where WK Kellogg filed are at Nebraska unemployment benefits and Tennessee unemployment benefits. Michigan, where the company had more than 700 employees in 2024, half of them at its Battle Creek plant, sets its own at Michigan unemployment benefits.
