Laid off from Allied Universal.
Allied Universal's 2020 notice on a General Motors plant said its contract was ending and expected a new contractor to keep many officers. Its 2024 letter raised the same prospect at Sawgrass Mills if renewal talks failed. A 2025 restructuring reached its own back office in Conshohocken instead.

The most recent Allied Universal layoff we've found
The latest Allied Universal layoff in our WARN tracker is the Conshohocken round, a row dated May 19, 2025 from a March notice. Allied put the cuts at 0.1% of its North American workforce and tied them to a “companywide centralization and standardization” of business processes, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported, with the last exits planned for September.
What Allied Universal layoffs have meant for employees
An Allied Universal layoff notice can mark the end of a contract rather than the end of the work. When a client still wants guards at the site, the post carries on and the question that matters is who employs you next. Allied's answer, in the General Motors notice Inside INdiana Business quoted and again in its Sawgrass Mills letter, has been a forecast about another company's hiring. Each of those lines was written for one site, so they record what Allied said then and make no promise about the next contract. If the next contractor offers you the post, its pay and hours are the terms you'd be weighing, whatever Allied's last letter expected.
A notice can also come before anything is settled. Allied's Simon letter went out while it was still negotiating a renewal, and every job in it hung on an if, so the Sawgrass Mills row records a warning more than an outcome. The letter also shows who these notices reach, with 45 of the Sawgrass Mills jobs held by janitors against 17 by security professionals. Dates need the same care, because a tracker date and a person's last day can be different things. In Georgia, a 2025 row carries the expected separation date from the state's WARN entry, and the notice itself dates from November 2024.
Where a state record gives a reason, it can help you later. New York's notice says contract loss and Illinois's report says lost contract, each beside the addresses it covers. If a future employer asks why the job ended and your site is on one of those entries, that's a reason in the state's own words, and it says nothing about your work.
Staying with Allied is a separate choice from staying on the post, and it can cost something. When Allied said it was leaving Amazon's corporate worksites, SEIU Local 6 told officers who wanted to remain with Allied to contact HR as soon as possible and warned that wages could change with the new worksite. That was one union's message on one account, but the trade it describes is plain enough, since the employer stays the same and the rate may not. The union also said it was working to see officers' rights and benefits respected under their collective bargaining agreement, a backstop the Sawgrass Mills workers, with no union, didn't have. If Allied offers you another site, the pay there and the drive to reach it are worth setting against any offer from the incoming company.
Conshohocken's back-office staff were in another position. The notice the Philadelphia Inquirer described had positions being phased out in a restructuring, so there was no client's site to follow. Those workers weren't represented by a union, and Allied's stated effort was to find them other positions. With 12 waves planned, a colleague's last day said little about your own. The notice's word for all of it was restructuring, which is plain language to carry into a job search.
The older rows belong to businesses Allied came to own, and they say little about how Allied itself handles a lost contract. Universal Services of America and AlliedBarton agreed to merge in 2016, and Allied bought G4S in April 2021. So G4S's 369 jobs at Hancocks Bridge sit on its WARN record by inheritance, dated years before Allied owned that company. If a contract change leaves you without a post, our pages on filing in Washington, Michigan, Texas and Pennsylvania cover four of the states these notices came from.

What to do if you're laid off from Allied Universal
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Allied Universal's biggest hubs: Washington, Michigan, Texas, Pennsylvania. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Allied Universal's hub states run: Washington, Michigan, Texas, Pennsylvania, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Allied Universal layoff and severance questions
What severance has Allied Universal given laid-off employees?
No severance amount or terms appear in the Philadelphia Inquirer's report on Conshohocken, Allied's Sawgrass Mills letter or Inside INdiana Business on General Motors. Those sources describe other help, including a search for other positions at headquarters, “reasonable efforts” to offer a position at another location in Florida, and “a suitable alternate assignment” in Indiana.
Do Allied Universal officers keep their jobs when a contract changes hands?
Allied has said many could. Its 2020 notice on General Motors' Fort Wayne plant expected “many if not all” employees to continue with the incoming contractor, Inside INdiana Business reported, and its 2024 Florida letter said staff “may be able to remain” with a new contractor. Neither source reports how many officers actually moved.
Are laid-off Allied Universal officers covered by a union?
It has depended on the site. New York's 2023 notice named SEIU Local 32BJ, Illinois's 2020 report listed Allied Universal with a union and bumping rights at six addresses, and Inside INdiana Business said the Security, Police & Fire Professionals of America represented Fort Wayne's GM officers. Allied's Sawgrass Mills letter said its workers had no union and that no bumping rights would be available.
Is Allied Universal laying off workers in 2026?
The WARN tracker and the state lists checked show no dated 2026 Allied Universal layoff. The tracker's two rows dated since the start of 2025 carry layoff dates, covering 123 jobs in Georgia and Pennsylvania. Some state archives lag or skip notices, so an empty tracker can't rule a cut out.
What names does Allied Universal use on WARN notices?
State records have read Universal Protection Service, LLC or LP, sometimes with Allied Universal Security Services as the trade name, and Michigan's archive spells it Universal Protections Service. Older rows on the WARN tracker sit under companies it later took in, including AlliedBarton, G4S Secure Solutions, The Wackenhut Corporation, Guardsmark and US Security Associates.
