Laid off from Brunswick Corporation.

Brunswick's jobs have risen and fallen with boat sales, and its plants have gone with them. It shut one Florida plant in 2018, reopened it during the 2021 demand surge and decided in 2025 to leave it again, along with the Mexican plant it had planned to expand in 2021.

The most recent Brunswick Corporation layoff we've found

About 80 workers remained at Brunswick's plant in Reynosa, Mexico, in July 2026, finishing a final boat, one worker told Posta. The company's September 2025 release had announced that closing, and the newest row in our WARN tracker is that same month's Flagler Beach notice.

What Brunswick Corporation layoffs have meant for employees

A county official called the 2018 closing a surprise, the Palm Coast Observer reported, and a worker at the 2025 announcement told FlaglerLive no one expected that one. The plant goes by Palm Coast or Flagler Beach depending on who's talking, but it's one site off Colbert Lane. In 2018 workers heard on the morning of June 25, the same morning the county's economic development office found out. In 2025 they were called to a covered patio at 3 p.m., and the county commission chair said he wasn't aware of any contact from the company beforehand. That worker also said people had been asked to work overtime, amid talk of tariffs and uncertain orders. If you're at a Brunswick plant and reading overtime as a sign of safety, that account is a reason for caution.

The boom hiring is what's most worth weighing in this record. The Palm Coast reopening and Reynosa's planned expansion were both tied to unprecedented demand in Brunswick's January 2021 release, which projected as many as 400 jobs at one and 260 at the other. Those are the two plants it decided to leave in 2025, when its September 2025 release said the Boat Group had enough capacity to absorb the volume. Flagler Beach's city manager said the reason he heard was a five-year decline in retail boat sales. That release also counted more than 200 new U.S. manufacturing jobs over several years. If you're weighing one of those jobs, the 2021 numbers show how fast a hiring plan built on a surge has reversed here.

Taking on work hasn't protected a plant either. Palm Coast was named as a home for Knoxville's models in 2012, the Palm Coast Observer reported that October, and six years later it was the plant closing. Transfers run through these moves. In 2025 FlaglerLive said an Edgewater job was on offer to everyone local, with any cuts coming through attrition among people who wouldn't make the drive, and the city manager there said the company was making provisions for gas. If Brunswick offers you a move to Edgewater or another plant, the round trip, how long any gas help lasts and what saying no would cost are what decide whether it's really the same job.

At Mercury Marine, the record in Fond du Lac runs through the union contract. The 2009 deal AP described cut pay 30 percent for laid-off members called back, so under that contract coming back from a layoff meant a lower rate than the one you left at. Those were 2009 terms, in a contract that was to expire in 2012. If you're waiting on a recall at Mercury, that history shows recall pay has been up for bargaining before.

July 2024's temporary layoffs were a different thing, days without manufacturing in Brunswick's description, and WPR relayed that some workers could file for unemployment while others might be offered work. No notice had been filed with Wisconsin for either the cuts announced in June or those shutdowns when WPR checked in July 2024, and our tracker holds no Wisconsin row under Mercury or Brunswick, so a blank there says little about whether a job was cut.

A restructuring headline can say little about people. Brunswick's 2025 charges came to $352.2 million in the 2025 Form 10-K, and $322.5 million of it was Navico Group write-downs. The line for employee termination and other benefits was $23.6 million, after $30.0 million in 2024 and $30.9 million in 2023. For a sense of how deep a downturn has run here, the fiscal 2009 10-K counted 14 boat plants shut after the start of 2007. Older filings sit under unit names, so our WARN tracker turns up more under Sea Ray, Bayliner, Meridian Yacht or U S Marine than under Brunswick alone.

A sourced history of Brunswick Corporation layoffs

  • September 2025, Flagler Beach and Reynosa closings announced

Both plants were to close to cut fixed costs, with Flagler Beach's work going to Edgewater and Reynosa's to Vonore and Merritt Island, Brunswick's September 2025 release said. All local workers were being offered Edgewater jobs, FlaglerLive reported.

  • July 2024, temporary layoffs announced for 1,700 Mercury workers

Mercury planned to stop manufacturing in Fond du Lac for roughly six weeks by year-end, about a week at a time, affecting around 1,700 hourly employees, WPR reported. A spokesperson blamed high interest rates and lower boat builder production.

  • June 2024, Mercury Marine announces 300 Fond du Lac cuts

Mercury paired the cuts, planned for June and July, with what it called adjustments to overall operations, WPR said. WGBA-TV had already reported more than 100 layoffs there by April.

  • June 2018, Sea Ray yacht exit, Palm Coast closing announced

Brunswick ended its Sea Ray sale effort and decided to discontinue yachts, expecting about 800 terminations, its June 2018 8-K said. The Palm Coast Observer put the cuts at as many as 825 across Palm Coast and Sykes Creek, and Florida's notice listed 771.

  • October 2012, Sea Ray's Knoxville plant closing announced

Weak sales of large boats led Brunswick to say the plant of about 225 would close by year-end, moving its models to Palm Coast or Vonore, the Palm Coast Observer reported. Brunswick offered to work with employees who might transfer, and Tennessee's row listed 224 jobs.

  • August 2009, Mercury concessions and the Stillwater move

Fond du Lac's machinists accepted a seven-year wage freeze after Mercury said 850 jobs could otherwise go to Stillwater, Oklahoma, which had 380, AP reported. Brunswick then chose to move Stillwater's sterndrive work north, the fiscal 2009 10-K said, and Oklahoma logged a closure notice in January 2011.

  • 2008, four boat plants closed and Navassa mothballed

Brunswick announced closings in Cumberland, Maryland, Pipestone, Minnesota, Roseburg, Oregon, and Arlington, Washington, finishing Pipestone in early 2009, and mothballed Navassa, North Carolina, its fiscal 2009 10-K said.

What to do if you're laid off from Brunswick Corporation

Brunswick Corporation layoff and severance questions

What severance has Brunswick Corporation given laid-off employees?

The figures on record are totals. About $5 million in severance costs was the estimate for the Sea Ray wind-down in Brunswick's June 2018 8-K, and the 2025 Form 10-K shows $23.6 million of employee termination and other benefits that year, while one Reynosa worker told Posta that staff got the settlements labor law requires. Nothing on record gives a formula or a per-person figure, so if Brunswick hands you a package, its own terms are the ones to go by.

Is the Boston Whaler plant in Flagler Beach closing?

Brunswick announced the closing on September 17, 2025, and its September 2025 release expected at the time that production would finish moving to Edgewater by summer 2026. Florida's notice, which our WARN tracker holds, listed 272 jobs and a January 16, 2026 date, and FlaglerLive reported most operations would wind down that winter. None of these sources confirms the plant's final day or that the closing is complete.

Did Mercury Marine lay off workers in 2024?

More than 100 people had already been laid off by April 2024, WPR said, citing WGBA-TV. Mercury then announced plans to cut 300 positions in June and July and, that July, a manufacturing stop of roughly six weeks by year-end affecting around 1,700 hourly employees. The company said those weren't permanent layoffs, and the report said some of those workers could file for unemployment.

How many WARN notices has Brunswick filed?

Our WARN tracker holds 12 rows under Brunswick and its units from 2001 to 2025, and just one dates from 2025 or later. That's a count of rows, not notices, since two Arlington, Washington rows cover one plant. It leaves out sold businesses such as Life Fitness, and a 1999 Attwood row filed while Steelcase owned that company.

Why did Brunswick decide to close Sea Ray's Palm Coast plant?

Brunswick had put Sea Ray up for sale, and chief executive Mark Schwabero said the offers fell short largely because of the yacht line's weak results, the Palm Coast Observer reported. The company chose to keep the brand and wind down yacht production, and it targeted Palm Coast for closure as soon as practical in 2018.
