Some Corteva layoffs have come in small batches, notice by notice, at its Pittsburg, California plant, where a 2023 plan set out to end production. Others came in 2026, when it cut commercial and support staff to prepare for splitting off its seed business, Pioneer included, as Vylor in October.

The most recent Corteva layoff we've found

Corteva completed its split on October 1, 2026, when its seed business became Vylor Inc., an independent public company, its October 2026 8-K reports. Our WARN tracker shows the newest Pittsburg notice dated September 28, 2026, for 2 jobs ending October 30.

What Corteva layoffs have meant for employees

Since the split, the Corteva name has belonged to the crop protection company alone, and the seed business, Pioneer and all, has run as Vylor, Corteva's separation 8-K reports. The two signed an employee agreement on October 1, and the information statement Vylor filed summarizes it. With certain exceptions, that summary generally gives each company the liabilities tied to its own employees' employment and its end, and it allocates liabilities relating to former employees who were U.S.-based when they left to the remaining Corteva, other than certain litigation liabilities. If you earned a pension in a U.S. tax-qualified Corteva defined benefit plan, the same summary says Corteva generally kept those plans' assets and liabilities, while the two companies agreed to cooperate on moving Vylor employees' U.S. defined contribution savings over. If you hold Corteva stock awards, it says they were to be adjusted to reflect the distribution, with certain exceptions.

The March 2026 restructuring was built for that split, according to Corteva's June 2026 quarterly report, which describes fitting the organization and its footprint to each function's operational needs, with the cuts falling primarily on commercial and functional support roles. Corteva put the program's substantial completion at December 2026, which runs past the October 1 split. For someone Corteva or Vylor terminates within 12 months of the distribution who's entitled to pay under a severance plan, the agreement summary sets a minimum, the cash severance the pre-split plan would have provided, counting service and pay changes since, and by our count that period runs to October 1, 2027. If you learn your job is ending and a severance plan covers you, its pre-split terms, your service date and your pay are what that comparison turns on, so it's worth keeping them together.

At Pittsburg the jobs have gone in small steps instead of on one closing day. The plant's California notices each set their own effective date. One dated July 15, 2025 for 4 employees took effect September 26, and one dated February 18, 2026 for 3 took effect April 24, California's WARN report shows, while the biggest since January 2025, a February 2025 notice, listed 26 jobs. The state's reports type every Corteva notice for the plant as permanent, which fits a program written as an exit from production there. Corteva has also said, in a June 2026 8-K/A, that conditions for selling the land at the site had been agreed, subject to due diligence. If a Pittsburg notice names you, its effective date is the one your plans hinge on, and California unemployment benefits covers how a claim works there.

Corteva's filings say workforce reductions under both restructuring programs are subject to local regulatory requirements, and in Spain that has meant consultation first. Its June update says negotiations with the local works council over Asturias may cause the program's results and cash payments to differ from its estimates. If you're at the Asturias site, the company's own filing treats that consultation as something that can move its numbers.

Corteva's notices on our WARN tracker all come from California and Illinois, but its people have been spread wider than that. Its headquarters is in Indianapolis, where it had about 1,400 employees in 2022, according to Inside INdiana Business, and its 2025 Johnston cut was in Iowa. Indiana unemployment benefits and Iowa unemployment benefits cover the claim rules for jobs in those two states, and Illinois unemployment benefits covers the state where Corteva closed its LeRoy plant.

What to do if you're laid off from Corteva

Corteva layoff and severance questions

What severance has Corteva given laid-off employees?

Corteva expected about $80 million in severance costs for its 2026 restructuring and $100 million to $125 million for its plant program, its second-quarter filing records, though the filings stop at those totals and give no per-person formula. If Corteva or Vylor ends your job within 12 months after the split and a severance plan entitles you to pay, the information statement says the cash severance can't fall below what the plan in force just before the split would have paid.

Is Corteva laying off workers in 2026?

Yes. The restructuring Corteva approved on March 15, 2026 was aimed at commercial and support roles ahead of its split, Corteva's quarterly filing for June says, and our WARN tracker logs 7 Pittsburg, California notices in 2026 covering 14 jobs. In June it also said it intends to stop production in Asturias, Spain.

Did Corteva's seed employees move to Vylor?

The seed business became Vylor on October 1, 2026, Corteva's 8-K filed October 5 reports, and the information statement called for employees to be assigned to one company or the other and, with some exceptions, to move to that employer before the split. It also called for Vylor to recognize prior years of service and honor the labor agreements covering its employees.

Can Vylor hire me if Corteva laid me off?

Corteva and Vylor agreed not to recruit or hire each other's employees for 12 months after the split, or each other's former employees within six months of leaving, the information statement says. That limit leaves out anyone whose job the other company ended involuntarily, so a Corteva layoff doesn't put you off-limits to Vylor under it.

How many WARN notices has Corteva filed?

Our WARN tracker ties 24 filings to Corteva from 2019 to 2026, and the 15 dated 2025 or later, covering 93 jobs, are all Pittsburg plant notices, matching the address California's WARN reports list. Pioneer Hi-Bred's notices, 47 of them in Iowa from 2014 to 2018, aren't in that count because Pioneer now belongs to Vylor, and Corteva's April 2025 notice for 44 Johnston, Iowa jobs falls in years our Iowa archive skips.
