Laid off from DexCom.

At DexCom, company-wide growth hasn't protected particular functions. Headcount rose through 2019 even as certain operations moved to the Philippines, and it rose again in 2025. What DexCom has said it will keep in San Diego is its headquarters and its product innovation work.

The most recent DexCom layoff we've found

In August 2025, DexCom gave California notice of 319 permanent layoffs at its Sequence Drive site in San Diego, effective November 3, a filing the state's WARN report records. The notice was part of cuts of about 3% of DexCom's workforce, which a spokesperson told MedTech Dive came from changes to its organizational model and operating structure.

What DexCom layoffs have meant for employees

For anyone who held one of DexCom's San Diego factory jobs, the choice its record points to is whether to follow that work to Mesa, and in 2024 a spokesperson told MedTech Dive that the reduction in its San Diego manufacturing workforce would come as the company transitioned over the coming years. Two San Diego buildings that had supported manufacturing were slated to become lab space, according to a Union-Tribune account that Drug Delivery Business News relayed. If a Mesa role with relocation help is on offer, it can be worth comparing that help with the full cost of moving there.

DexCom's 10-K for 2025 describes a workforce that grew again that year, but that growth hasn't preserved every function or every location. Even in 2019, despite its cuts, DexCom planned to grow its engineering and development ranks in San Diego, the San Diego Business Journal reported, and its chief executive said it would end the year with more employees in California and Arizona than before the restructuring. In 2024 the manufacturing move left 2,400 employees in San Diego, and Barry Regan, its executive vice president of global operations, told the Union-Tribune that DexCom expected to add about 400 jobs there as the site turned toward research and development. So the company has added people in the same years it subtracted particular jobs, and if you're hoping to stay with DexCom in San Diego, research and development is where its own statements put the growth.

If your job was on the 2025 notice, the letter behind it said the action was expected to be permanent, that no union represented the people affected and that their positions carried no bumping rights, according to Drug Delivery Business News, which got a copy from California's EDD. The state's WARN report counts 319 people on that notice at the Sequence Drive site, while a spokesperson told MedTech Dive that about 196 of the round's affected people were based in San Diego. The 2025 round also reached past the factory floor. DexCom tied the whole round to its organizational changes and tied the operations roles to the move to Arizona, so for the sales staff and senior managers on the notice, the company's stated reason is the reorganization itself.

In Mesa, DexCom's cuts and its growth have sat side by side. The one Arizona notice in our tracker dates to February 2019, when the company planned to phase out its Mesa call center while expanding manufacturing there, the Business Journal reported. By 2024 Regan put DexCom's Mesa manufacturing roles at 2,000, up from 500 five years earlier, and the 10-K for 2025 names Mesa as one of the two places DexCom primarily manufactures. If your DexCom job was in Arizona, the state's claim rules are at Arizona unemployment benefits, and for a San Diego job they're at California unemployment benefits.

DexCom's 2019, 2024 and 2025 cuts all came alongside rising sales. The 2019 plan came out with fourth-quarter results that showed strong revenue growth, the 2024 cut followed first-quarter revenue growth that MedTech Dive reported, and by the 2025 round the company had raised its sales expectations for the year. Its reasons have been about how and where it works, from the 2019 8-K plan's aim of lower operating expenses and more scalable business functions, to the 2024 statement's ongoing global growth strategy, to the organizational changes it cited in 2025. If you're describing a DexCom layoff to an interviewer, those are the company's own terms for it, and there's more on that conversation at explaining a layoff.
