Laid off from DoorDash.

When DoorDash cut jobs in 2022, its chief executive apologized and took the blame himself, saying the company had grown its teams faster than it had managed them. An apology from the top doesn't make it easier to lose a job over hiring decisions someone else made.

What we know about DoorDash severance and layoffs

  • About 1,250 corporate positions in DoorDash's November 2022 cut, about 7% of staff
  • $82 million in restructuring charges booked for the November 2022 cut
  • 311 San Francisco jobs and 75 Los Angeles jobs on DoorDash's 2022 California notices
  • Over 31,400 DoorDash employees around the world on December 31, 2025

The most recent DoorDash layoff we've found

Wolt decided to cut 24 jobs in Finland in March 2026, Daily Finland reported on March 27. By March 31 the four-country exit announced in DoorDash's February 2026 release was substantially complete, the company says in its first-half 2026 10-Q.

What DoorDash layoffs have meant for employees

The 2022 cut came out of DoorDash's corporate headcount, positions across the company by its 2022 10-K account, and Tony Xu's memo to staff told Wolt's team it would hear more soon and said some details would differ for staff outside the US. It also told everyone the business remained strong and was still growing, which is a hard thing to hear when you're the one leaving. Xu said DoorDash would keep hiring, in a more targeted and rigorous way.

If DoorDash or one of its units offers you a package, the 2022 terms are worth having beside it, though they belonged to one round, and it's worth asking how your offer handles the same pieces, from the termination date to the next stock vest. Negotiating severance covers what's reasonable to push for, and if you're weighing COBRA, as people leaving in 2022 could, how COBRA works explains what staying on the plan at your own cost involves.

If you're bracing for a cut, a few details from 2022 are worth knowing. The emails telling people they were affected went to personal devices, at personal addresses as well as DoorDash ones, within minutes of the announcement, so it can help to have a personal address on file with the company. Each person was also to get an email with the details specific to them, and if you're affected, that individual email is worth keeping. Xu also said DoorDash would outline a process for saying goodbye to teammates and for getting into the systems that hold expense and payroll information, along with a conversation with a leader that week. Beyond pay, the memo listed an opt-in directory that let other companies reach the people leaving and recruiting support, and if a package is offered, those are worth asking about too.

DoorDash's two California notices, for sites in San Francisco and Los Angeles, were dated November 30, 2022 and reached the state on December 13, California's WARN report shows. Both carried March 1, 2023 as the effective date, the same day the memo set for terminations, and the state recorded each as a permanent layoff under the name Doordash, Inc., the spelling worth searching in the state's own lists. Our WARN tracker holds those same two filings for DoorDash, and for anyone who lost a California job, California unemployment benefits lays out how a claim works.

Certain international DoorDash employees are subject to statutory collective bargaining agreements, its 2025 annual report says, and if you work for DoorDash outside the US, it's worth asking which agreement, if any, covers your role. Wolt's two Finnish talks on record, in 2025 and 2026, both ended with fewer people laid off than the figure named at the outset, going by Yle and Daily Finland. The opening figures in these two talks weren't final layoff totals, and they didn't measure exactly the same thing. If your role is in a similar consultation, it's worth asking whether a number covers every affected role or only expected terminations.

Among the businesses DoorDash has bought, it decided to shut one outright, the salad-robot maker Chowbotics, as it confirmed to Restaurant Dive, while Wolt's two Finnish processes went through restructuring or negotiation talks. At Deliveroo, DoorDash said the 2026 changes, the Bengaluru hub's closing among them, would let Deliveroo invest further in engineering roles in the UK, The Independent reported. Separately, when it took over Deliveroo in 2025, DoorDash said a review of the merged group could reduce the combined workforce by around 1% to 3%, and nothing in the reporting we track ties that review to a particular cut.

If you're on a visa

DoorDash set March 1, 2023 as the termination date for the 2022 cut, giving people with visa applications as much time as possible to find a new job, Tony Xu's memo to staff said. If you're on a work visa and facing a cut, it's worth asking early what termination date would apply to you.

What to do if you're laid off from DoorDash

DoorDash layoff and severance questions

What severance has DoorDash given laid-off employees?

For the November 2022 cut, DoorDash offered 17 weeks of compensation, 13 weeks plus a four-week lump sum it called severance pay, and health benefits through March 31, 2023, then COBRA at their own cost for up to 18 months, Tony Xu's staff memo said. No terms for the 2026 cuts appear in DoorDash's February 2026 release or other reporting we track. If a later package reaches you, it's worth setting it against those 2022 terms piece by piece.

What happens to my stock if I'm laid off from DoorDash?

In the 2022 cut, the terms in Tony Xu's memo to staff included each affected person's February 2023 stock vest. If you hold unvested DoorDash units and you're losing your job, the grant paperwork for those units is worth a careful read, and if separation terms are offered, it's worth asking whether they say anything about your next vest date.

Did DoorDash have layoffs in 2026?

Yes, outside the US. Deliveroo and Wolt began leaving Qatar, Singapore, Japan and Uzbekistan under a plan in DoorDash's February 2026 release, and Wolt decided in March to cut jobs in Finland, Daily Finland reported. None of the reporting we track, and nothing in our WARN tracker, shows a DoorDash layoff in the US in 2026.

Are DoorDash Dashers employees?

Mostly not. Dashers are generally the independent contractors who use DoorDash's Marketplaces, by the definition in its 2025 annual report, though in some places they can be employees of a local DoorDash entity or of a third-party provider. Over 9 million people dashed in 2025, while DoorDash's own staff numbered over 31,400 as that year closed.
