Laid off from Hasbro.
Hasbro's people have had an unsettling year. With the company moving its headquarters to Boston after more than a century in Rhode Island, Pawtucket staff have been learning whether a transfer or severance comes next, and Wizards of the Coast staff posted about losing jobs after a record Wizards quarter.

The most recent Hasbro layoff we've found
In late September 2026, two Wizards of the Coast managers said in LinkedIn posts that they'd been laid off, in what one called a greater restructure, according to Wargamer. Earlier that month, Pawtucket's mayor had told NBC 10 that employees there were receiving transfer dates or severance packages ahead of the move to Boston.
What Hasbro layoffs have meant for employees
In Hasbro's December 2023 cuts, many affected employees were to hear within a day, but most notifications were set for the next six months and the rest for the following year, with timing set by each country's rules, according to the company's memo to employees. The work ahead, the memo said, included standardizing finance, HR, IT and consumer care processes and thinning management layers. Some of the people counted that year were volunteers for a US early retirement program, so the totals mix people who chose to go with people who didn't. Waiting months to learn whether your own job survives is hard. If a round has been announced and you haven't heard anything, it's worth asking your manager when people in your function will know.
Hasbro expected those December 2023 actions to be substantially done within 18 to 24 months, its 8-K filing said, and the cutting continued past that. The company's organizational changes "have resulted and will further result in workforce reductions," its 2025 annual report says, and further cost-saving initiatives could bring more severance charges. First-half restructuring and severance costs came to $13.7 million in 2026, a little above the same months of 2025, and the July 2026 results release that reported them listed uncertainty over keeping key people after recent workforce reductions among Hasbro's business risks. If you've stayed through these rounds, the strain shows up in the company's own terms too, in an annual-report warning that the planned move, recent workforce reductions and losing key employees put knowledge, relationships and productivity at risk.
At Wizards of the Coast, which the annual report places in Renton, Washington, both 2026 layoffs on record are known from the laid-off employees' own LinkedIn posts, which Wccftech and Wargamer picked up. They came in the same year Hasbro's July release called Wizards' quarter a record, with Magic passing $500 million in quarterly revenue for the first time. If you're at Wizards and a teammate's post is the first you hear of a cut, you can ask your manager directly where your own role stands. If your job was in Renton, Washington unemployment benefits covers filing there, and if it was at the Burbank office that Hasbro's consumer products and entertainment teams use, California unemployment benefits does.
For Rhode Island staff, the Boston move is a sorting of its own. If a move doesn't work for your household, you'd be giving an answer Hasbro anticipated, since its annual report warns that the company may lose experienced personnel unwilling to relocate. If you've been given a Boston transfer date and are weighing it, it's worth asking whether declining would come with severance, and how the start date and any relocation help would work, before you answer. Rhode Island unemployment benefits and Massachusetts unemployment benefits lay out claims in the two states on either end of the move.
If job placement support is part of what you're offered, it's worth asking who provides it and for how long. If you're weighing a severance package against a transfer to Boston, negotiating a severance agreement covers what's open to discussion, and if your health coverage ends with your Hasbro job, how COBRA works explains keeping it for a while. For anyone with a balance in Hasbro's retirement plan, handling a 401(k) after a layoff goes through the options before any money moves. And if your job went in one of these restructurings and a hiring manager asks why you left, saying so plainly is an honest answer, with more on the wording in explaining a layoff.

What to do if you're laid off from Hasbro
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Hasbro's biggest hubs: Rhode Island, Washington, California. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Hasbro's hub states run: Rhode Island, Washington, California, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Hasbro layoff and severance questions
What severance has Hasbro given laid-off employees?
Affected staff were offered packages including job placement support in December 2023, according to Hasbro's memo to employees, and its 2025 annual report says it has severance plans for certain groups of employees who are involuntarily terminated. No formula for staff below the executive level appears in either document or in Hasbro's 2026 proxy. If severance is on offer, you can ask whether more hinges on signing an agreement, since the proxy describes a US plan with a basic level and a larger one for those who sign.
Is Hasbro moving its headquarters out of Rhode Island?
Yes. Hasbro expects to leave its Pawtucket offices in the fourth quarter of 2026 for a sublease at 400 Summer Street in Boston, then list the Pawtucket properties for sale, according to its 2025 annual report. The company had posted that it aimed to make the Boston headquarters official in January, NBC 10 reported in September 2026, and the station put the commute for transferred employees at about an hour.
Has Hasbro filed WARN notices for its layoffs?
None of the filings in our WARN tracker matches Hasbro or Wizards of the Coast. If a layoff reaches your site, you can look there under both names as new filings come in.
What happens to my Hasbro 401(k) if I'm laid off?
If you were in the Hasbro Retirement Savings Plan, the plan's 2025 Form 11-K shows the match and your own contributions fully vested, while the yearly discretionary contribution, targeted at 3% of eligible pay, needs three years of vesting service, as the plan counts it, and any unvested part of a departing participant's account is forfeited. If you leave with money in the plan, it can pay out in one sum or in installments, and withdrawals before age 59½ may draw a 10% IRS early distribution penalty.
