Laid off from Levi Strauss.
At Levi Strauss, layoffs have more than once come with the work itself moving to another company. Its last North American sewing work was set to go to contractors in 2004, and since 2024 work at some of its U.S. distribution centers has been moving to logistics firms.

The most recent Levi Strauss layoff we've found
Levi Strauss booked $29.0 million in restructuring charges in the nine months to August 30, 2026, mostly severance and other post-employment benefits, its third-quarter 10-Q shows. It tied them mainly to cost cuts, to a wider global shared-services model that includes building talent hubs around the world, and to weighing which distribution centers it runs itself.
What Levi Strauss layoffs have meant for employees
If your job is at a Levi Strauss distribution center and its work is going to a logistics provider, two questions are worth keeping apart. One is whether a job follows the work, with the provider or at another Levi Strauss site, and the other is what taking such a job would do to any severance. The company has been moving U.S. distribution to a mix of its own sites and provider-run ones, Supply Chain Dive reported, a transition the fiscal 2025 10-K describes as still going on. A European case shows how a transfer has been handled before. When Levi Strauss planned to close its Belgian distribution center in 2004, employees there were set to transfer their employment to a third-party company, and the 2003 10-K said the company expected no severance or benefit costs for them. If you're offered a job with an operator taking over your site's work, it's worth asking in writing whether accepting it changes any severance from Levi Strauss.
Office work has gone outside before. In 2014 Levi Strauss outsourced back-office services to Wipro, its November 2014 8-K shows, and the charges for that handover included retention bonuses as well as severance, so if you're asked to stay on until your work moves, it's worth asking whether a retention payment comes with that. The 2026 changes are a shared-services reorganization, which the August 2026 10-Q says involves building global talent hubs. If your role is in a shared function, you can ask whether it's slated for one of those hubs or for an outside provider, and whether there's a role at the new site you could apply for. The 2020 program, in the July 2020 8-K, was measured against non-retail, non-manufacturing positions, and Project Fuel, in its January 2024 announcement, against the corporate workforce, so store jobs sat outside both counts.
Project Fuel ran on a two-year schedule, and the company called it substantially complete as of November 30, 2025, while restructuring charges kept coming in 2026 for the shared-services and distribution changes. If your team came through one wave, it can help to ask whether later phases are planned for your area.
The July 2020 8-K, the fiscal 2025 10-K and the 2026 restructuring note each tie their severance charges to company policy or to statutory benefit plans, so if you're being offered severance, you can ask which of those two applies and how the amount was worked out. In the 2001 to 2003 rounds the charges also covered outplacement and career counseling, the 2003 10-K says, so if severance is offered, it's fair to ask whether that kind of support comes with it. Union sites have worked differently. The same 10-K says costs at closings were estimated from agreements with union representatives where workers were represented and from company plans where they weren't, so if a union represented you, it's worth asking your representative what your agreement provides if a site closes. The 1997 package was written for that year's plant closings, as the Seattle Times archive story shows, and later rounds have been set on their own terms.
If you've received more than one notice, it's worth keeping each version, since a later one can change the dates, as Hebron's did, and asking the company when your own last day falls. If your job ended at Hebron, the rules for a claim there are at Kentucky unemployment benefits, and California unemployment benefits and Mississippi unemployment benefits explain how a claim is filed in those states.
A sourced history of Levi Strauss layoffs
2025 to 2026, Hebron, Kentucky distribution center closing
Paperwork that Supply Chain Dive reported put nearly 350 Hebron layoffs from about August 18, 2025. Moving the work to a Maersk-run Ohio site took longer, and a June 30, 2026 notice set about 303 layoffs from around August 30, with some workers able to apply at other Levi Strauss locations, the outlet's July 2026 report said.
2024, Canton, Mississippi distribution center closing
Levi Strauss agreed with a third-party logistics provider to replace its owned Canton center with a new one, Supply Chain Dive reported, and an October 17, 2024 Mississippi notice in our WARN tracker listed 267 jobs at the closing.
January 2024, Project Fuel corporate cuts announced
Levi Strauss expected Project Fuel's first phase to cut 10% to 15% of its global corporate workforce in the first half of 2024, its January 2024 results release said, and its fiscal 2025 10-K put that year's charges at $185.6 million, mostly severance and benefits.
July 2020, pandemic cut of non-retail, non-manufacturing jobs
Citing the pandemic's toll on its business, Levi Strauss committed to cutting about 15% of its global non-retail and non-manufacturing positions for about $100 million in yearly savings, its July 2020 8-K said, with $67.4 million in charges, mostly severance.
November 2014, about 500 jobs as services moved to Wipro
Levi Strauss signed Wipro to take over information technology, finance, human resources, customer service and consumer relations work, and its November 2014 8-K said about 500 positions would go, mostly in those services, with U.S. cuts timed to the handover.
September 2003, last North American plants set to close
Levi Strauss decided to close its remaining sewing and finishing plants in the U.S. and Canada, expecting to displace about 2,000 people and to shift production to contractors mostly outside both countries. Its San Antonio sewing and finishing closed in January 2004, the 2003 10-K says.
April 2002, six U.S. manufacturing plants to close
The closings reflected Levi Strauss's continuing shift from manufacturing to a marketing and product-driven organization and displaced about 3,540 employees, its 2003 10-K says.
February 1999, 11 more North American plants to close
The 11 plants closed by the end of 1999, displacing about 5,900 employees, and Levi Strauss charged $299.4 million for their severance and employee benefits, its 2000 10-K says.
November 1997, ten plants and a finishing center to close
The closings displaced about 6,400 employees, the 2000 10-K says, and came with a severance package that an Atlanta Journal-Constitution story in the Seattle Times archive called precedent-setting.
What to do if you're laid off from Levi Strauss
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Levi Strauss's biggest hubs: Kentucky, California, Mississippi, Texas. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Levi Strauss's hub states run: Kentucky, California, Mississippi, Texas, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Levi Strauss layoff and severance questions
What severance has Levi Strauss given laid-off employees?
Levi Strauss described its restructuring charges as mostly severance set by company policy or statutory benefit plans in its July 2020 8-K and August 2026 10-Q, and neither gives a formula. The 1997 plant closings came with up to three weeks' pay per year of service, a $500 bonus on finding a new job and a $6,000 allowance to relocate, retrain or start a business, according to the Seattle Times archive. If you're offered severance, it's worth asking which policy produced your amount.
How many WARN notices has Levi Strauss filed?
At least 14. Our tracker matches 13 filings to the company's own name, dated 1999 to 2026, two of them since the start of 2025 for 347 jobs in California and Kentucky, and nine from 1999 through 2003. The fourteenth is the first Hebron notice, which Supply Chain Dive reported in July 2025 and which isn't a tracker row, because our Kentucky records hold only 4 filings from 2025, none of them Levi Strauss's.
When did Levi Strauss sell Dockers?
In two stages, to Authentic Brands Group, Supply Chain Dive reported. Levi Strauss sold the U.S. and Canadian business on July 31, 2025 and the remaining operations by February 27, 2026, its August 2026 10-Q says, while supplying accounting, tax, technology and supply chain services to the brand through a transition into early 2026. The 10-Q's restructuring note books Dockers restructuring costs in both years without saying how many jobs they covered.
