Laid off from Live Nation.
When the pandemic stopped shows, Live Nation furloughed staff and laid others off, then began bringing furloughed employees back. When House of Blues venues closed earlier, it said it was finding staff new jobs or keeping them on at a new venue. Ticketmaster's 2026 cut followed a strong quarter.

The most recent Live Nation layoff we've found
Ticketmaster's May 2026 cut of 8% of its global staff, which Music Business Worldwide reported from Pollstar's account, came a day after Live Nation reported first-quarter results with Ticketmaster revenue up 10 percent to $765 million.
What Live Nation layoffs have meant for employees
Live Nation's 2020 cuts came as furloughs as well as layoffs, and the two weren't the same thing. Furloughed Ticketmaster staff were to remain employees that April, and a source told Pollstar that furloughs weren't layoffs. Live Nation's annual report for 2020 lists furloughs and the termination of certain employees as separate cost cuts that year. If you're furloughed or put on a temporary layoff, the expected return date, which benefits continue while you're out and what would turn it into a termination are the details worth having in writing.
People who kept their jobs in 2020 took cuts too. Most employees had their salaries reduced that year, senior executives' by up to 60 percent, alongside a hiring freeze, by the same annual report's account, and Billboard later reported that pay had been restored to pre-pandemic levels. If you're offered reduced pay or hours as an alternative to a layoff, how long the reduction lasts, what it does to your benefits and whether full pay comes back on a set date are worth seeing in writing too.
The two House of Blues closing notices from before the pandemic each came with the company talking about jobs for the people on them, placements in 2015 by Pollstar's account and places at the club's new Anaheim home in 2016 by the Orange County Business Journal's. Both closings were tied to the buildings, with the Sunset Strip site reported to be making way for a hotel and the Downtown Disney club moving to GardenWalk. The label on a notice hasn't been the last word on what the company offered its staff. If a Live Nation venue you work at closes and a spot at another one is offered, the shifts, the pay rate, whether seniority carries over and how long the offer stays open are the parts worth comparing, and having them on paper makes that easier.
Seasonal and part-time workers make up a large share of Live Nation's workforce, mainly at its venues and festivals, and their numbers swing with the concert calendar. By its 2025 annual report, they nearly matched its full-time headcount at the end of the year and ran to more than twice that number in the summer months. Stagehands at some venues, along with other employees, work under union contracts that typically run three years. If a collective bargaining agreement covers your job, any recall or seniority terms in it are worth reading next to any notice you get.
Ticketmaster's 2026 cut was framed differently from its 2020 furlough. That furlough came with a reported intent to bring people back, while Ticketmaster's president described the 2026 cut as a restructuring of how engineering, product and design teams are organized, as Music Business Worldwide relayed his comments, and the executive leadership team stayed in place. If you were part of it, the dates your pay and health coverage end are worth noting first.
In the spring of 2020, Live Nation's California notices went in division by division and venue by venue over about two months, from 690 jobs at the Wiltern to a single job in its purchasing department, our WARN tracker shows, so one notice says little about how far a round reached. Most of the company's notices in the tracker were filed in California, with Texas and Illinois next. If your job was in California, the state's other layoff filings are at California layoffs and its rules for a claim at California unemployment benefits. For Texas and Illinois the same are at Texas layoffs and Texas unemployment benefits, and at Illinois layoffs and Illinois unemployment benefits.
A sourced history of Live Nation layoffs
May 2026, Ticketmaster cuts about 350 jobs worldwide
Ticketmaster cut around 350 jobs in 25 countries, 8% of its global workforce, primarily in engineering, product and design, and also reduced contractors, according to Pollstar's report as Music Business Worldwide relayed it.
September 2020, another round across concerts and ticketing
Another round of staff reductions that Pollstar reported on September 3 reached divisions including concerts and ticketing. Live Nation entities filed notices that our WARN tracker dates to that month in eight states, Texas, California and Illinois among them.
May 2020, furloughs reach 20 percent of staff
Live Nation had furloughed 20 percent of its team, about 2,100 employees, by May 18, when Digital Music News reported that company officials had confirmed the figure.
April 2020, Ticketmaster furloughs and temporary venue layoffs
Ticketmaster furloughed what a source told Pollstar was a quarter of its North American workforce, hundreds of people. Notices dated April 24 for the Wiltern, the Fillmore and five other Live Nation venues appear in California’s WARN report as temporary layoffs.
March 2016, House of Blues Anaheim closure notice
Live Nation's March 25 notice for the Downtown Disney House of Blues, in our WARN tracker, set a May 31 permanent closure for 300 mostly part-time workers, though a spokesman told the Orange County Business Journal the new GardenWalk venue planned to keep them and add 100 positions.
May 2015, House of Blues Sunset Strip closing notice
A May 28 notice in our WARN tracker covered 197 jobs at the Sunset Strip House of Blues, effective August 7. Spokesman Jim Yeager told Pollstar "layoffs" was a misnomer, with the company finding staff new jobs.
December 2010, more layoffs after the Ticketmaster merger
Live Nation reportedly laid off more staff as it streamlined after merging with Ticketmaster, a round TicketNews, citing Pollstar Pro, said could reach the low hundreds, with marketing and production among departments believed hit. That followed at least one earlier round of layoffs that year.
What to do if you're laid off from Live Nation
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Live Nation's biggest hubs: California, Texas, Illinois. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Live Nation's hub states run: California, Texas, Illinois, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Live Nation layoff and severance questions
What severance has Live Nation given laid-off employees?
When Ticketmaster furloughed staff in April 2020, those affected were to keep their health benefits and in many cases get a two-week payout of earned time off, Pollstar reported, terms for a furlough rather than a layoff. No severance terms for any Live Nation round, including the May 2026 Ticketmaster cut Music Business Worldwide covered, are on record in the reporting we track. If a package comes with your exit, there's more on weighing it in negotiating a severance agreement.
Why did Ticketmaster lay off employees in 2026?
The stated purpose of the May 2026 cuts was "stronger prioritization, especially in engineering product and design," Ticketmaster global president Saumil Mehta told Pollstar, along with "flattening layers, consolidating ownership, changing how teams are structured," in Music Business Worldwide's account of the interview. Asked about cutting a day after strong quarterly results, he said "the strong performance reflects the past" and that the decisions looked 12 to 24 months ahead.
Did Live Nation bring back furloughed employees?
Live Nation was bringing employees back from furlough and hiring for new and backfilled roles, by a later Billboard account, ahead of live music's return. At the time of Ticketmaster's April 2020 furlough, a source had told Pollstar the company intended to bring those staff back as soon as feasible.
Has Live Nation filed WARN notices?
Yes, under a range of names, among them Live Nation Entertainment, Live Nation Worldwide, Live Nation Clubs & Theaters with a venue's name, Ticketmaster and House of Blues, so it's worth checking our WARN tracker under more than one of them. The newest filing in it dates from September 16, 2020, and none from 2025 or 2026 had reached it as of October 2026.
