Laid off from Molina Healthcare.
Molina's 2017 overhaul followed its board's firing of chief executive Mario Molina and his brother John, the finance chief, and it cut into every level of the company. Since then Molina has more than once handed work to an outside company that took on some of its staff.

What Molina Healthcare layoffs have meant for employees
Molina manages government health programs in multiple states, and Virginia shows how a job there can end when the state contract behind it does. The Henrico layoffs reached everyone based at the office, hourly workers along with managers and directors, Richmond BizSense reported, and that office appeared to be Molina's only one in the region. The members were to move as well, to a Humana plan unless they chose other coverage, and Aetna, Anthem, Sentara and UnitedHealthcare were the other insurers in Virginia's Medicaid program at the time. If your job is at one of Molina's state plans, you can follow your state's Medicaid contract awards, since in Virginia the office's last day came with the end of the contract.
When Molina has handed work to another company, the people doing it haven't always lost their jobs. More of Molina's IT employees moved to Infosys than it had planned when Infosys took over certain of its IT services in 2019, and that cut the IT plan's expected cost below the $20 million Molina had first reported, with lower one-time termination benefits, its first-quarter 2019 10-Q said. If a vendor offers to hire you as your work moves, two questions decide what that offer is worth, whether taking the job changes any severance or other exit terms Molina offers and how the new employer's pay, benefits and start date line up with the end of your Molina job.
Every Molina notice in California since 2019 in our WARN tracker has come from Long Beach, and the two newest list 200 Oceangate, Molina's headquarters address in its FY2025 10-K. California's yearly WARN reports, like the 2025-26 report, give each filed notice's date, the number of employees, the effective date and whether the state recorded the layoff as permanent. If you work at 200 Oceangate, you can look for that address in those reports to see whether a notice has been filed for your building and when its layoffs take effect.
The 2017 round reached well beyond Long Beach. That year's Molina notices ran from Sacramento and San Diego to Compton, Moreno Valley and Ontario, and outside California to Oak Brook, Illinois and Milwaukee, and Wisconsin's list shows the Milwaukee notice growing from 53 workers when it was filed in October to 78 after revisions that December. The interim chief executive's memo, in the Long Beach Post account, said people who lost jobs would be eligible for resume and interview support and possible placement at other Molina locations. If your job is cut and another Molina plan or office has an opening that fits your work, a move like that has been on Molina's own list of options once before.
Molina has filed under more than one name, which matters when you're matching a notice to a job. The parent, Molina Healthcare, Inc., filed the 2019, 2024 and 2026 California notices and, in 2017, notices for sites from Long Beach to Sacramento, Oak Brook and Milwaukee. Its state plans have filed as Molina Healthcare of California, of Florida and of Virginia, and in 2017 Molina Medical Management filed under its own name. Molina's Florida notices read Molina Healthcare in 2018 and Molina Healthcare of Florida, Inc. in 2019, and in 2017 Sacramento and Pomona drew notices under both the parent's name and the California plan's, so a search of a state's WARN list under only one of those names can miss part of the record.

- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Molina Healthcare's biggest hubs: California, Florida, Virginia. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Molina Healthcare's hub states run: California, Florida, Virginia, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
