Laid off from RR Donnelley.
RR Donnelley has explained closings from Georgia in 2011 to Texas in 2025 with the same words, "changing market conditions," and its letters to Oregon and Indiana share whole passages. In between, it spun off two businesses in 2016 and was sold to a private investment firm in 2022.

What RR Donnelley layoffs have meant for employees
The dates in RR Donnelley's closing letters on record are a plan the company says can still change. The letter to Oregon and the letter to Indiana each warn that "various factors may still affect the timing of any employment terminations," and Mark Brothers, the human resources executive who signed both, said the same about Nacogdoches, KETK reported. Their head counts are hedged the same way, as the number of employees who "may be affected," so a letter's figure is what the company expected when it wrote. How long a closing takes has varied too, with Plainfield's letter setting a 14-day period for separations and Medford's giving a window that ran to the end of the year. If your letter gives a window instead of one date, as Medford's and Plainfield's did, your own last day could fall anywhere inside it and could still move, which is worth knowing before you commit to a start date somewhere else.
Those two letters repeat several passages word for word, among them the reason, the line that the employees aren't covered by a collective bargaining agreement and that bumping rights don't exist, and the timing warning. Each covers RRD's entire operation at its address, so for the people there the whole workplace was closing, not a share of its jobs, and no position at either address was left to keep. Each also attaches a list of the affected job titles with the number of people in each, and Plainfield's list still carried the heading "RRD Howard, SD Site Closure," dated March 4, 2020. If you're holding one of these letters, the job list is worth keeping with it, since it shows which job titles the company included and how many people held each.
RRD's 2021 annual report records employee termination charges for each of 2019, 2020 and 2021 as company-wide accounting charges, not any one person's severance, and ties every year's to announced facility closures, along with reorganizing its selling, general and administrative functions in 2019 and 2021, closing its Chilean operations in 2020 and relocating a printing facility in Shenzhen, China, in 2019. The severance protection written into the 2022 sale covered only the first year after the sale closed, under the terms the Chatham merger proxy lays out. If a package is offered at your closing, keeping the offer, any release it asks you to sign and the closing letter together gives you one file of what the company put in writing.
Older notices can sit under other names. Seven of the RRD-linked filings in our WARN tracker came from Moore Wallace, Wallace Computer Services, a Moore Business Forms division or Banta before RRD bought them, and a 2024 New Jersey notice was filed as RR Donnelly & Sons, so a search under those names turns them up. RRD spun off LSC Communications and Donnelley Financial Solutions on October 1, 2016, and LSC's assets went to a third-party buyer in September 2020 after its Chapter 11 filing, the annual report notes. RRD also sold its logistics businesses between 2018 and 2020, DLS Worldwide among them, though the two 1990s notices filed as RR Donnelley Logistics still count as RRD's because that filing company stayed with RRD.
For an unemployment claim, the state's rules are on our pages for Illinois, which holds the most RRD notices in the tracker, and for California, Indiana and Texas, where its three since 2025 were filed. The Oregon, North Carolina and New Jersey pages cover the other states where RRD has filed since 2022.

What to do if you're laid off from RR Donnelley
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. RR Donnelley's biggest hubs: Illinois, California, Indiana, Texas. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what RR Donnelley's hub states run: Illinois, California, Indiana, Texas, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
RR Donnelley layoff and severance questions
What severance has RR Donnelley given laid-off employees?
For the 2025 Seymour, Indiana closing, the company answered no when Indiana's notice summary asked whether separation benefits would be provided. As the Chatham merger proxy describes the deal, non-union employees let go in the year after the sale closed, in circumstances that would have qualified them for severance before it, were to get severance on terms no worse than RRD's plans in effect on December 14, 2021, possibly in exchange for signing a release of claims.
Do laid-off RR Donnelley workers have bumping rights or transfer options?
Not under the closing letters on record. RRD's letter to Oregon for Medford in 2022 and its letter to Indiana for Plainfield in 2023 said bumping rights didn't exist for any affected employee, and KETK quoted the same line for Nacogdoches in 2025. As the East Point plant was closing in 2011, about 40 positions at RRD's Chamblee plant were said to be open to Donnelley employees, according to Printing Impressions.
How many WARN notices are tied to RR Donnelley?
Our WARN tracker ties 42 filings, dated 1993 to January 2026, to RR Donnelley, counting filings by companies RRD later bought. Thirty-five were filed under RR Donnelley's own name, in several spellings, three of them dated 2025 or 2026, and the other seven came from those acquired companies before RRD owned them. The LSC Communications and Donnelley Financial notices in the tracker were filed under those companies' names and sit outside the count.
Who bought RR Donnelley?
Affiliates of Chatham Asset Management, a private investment firm, completed their purchase of RRD for $10.85 a share in cash on February 25, 2022, after announcing the deal on December 14, 2021, according to the companies' release. Thomas Quinlan, who ran RRD from 2007 to 2016 and then LSC Communications after its spin-off, became chief executive.
