Laid off from Thomson Reuters.
Thomson Reuters announced its cut plans of 2013 and 2018 as company-wide totals. At its Eagan and Rochester offices, the job counts came out separately, through state notices and local news. In 2026 the company called an engineering cut small, and the number came from one employee's unverified account.

The most recent Thomson Reuters layoff we've found
In July 2026 Thomson Reuters confirmed engineering job cuts it described as a small number of roles, Reuters reported, and on July 14 a company release set out a deal for KKR-advised accounts to buy 51% of Global Print, expected to close in the final quarter of 2026, pending approvals.
What Thomson Reuters layoffs have meant for employees
If you're wondering whether your team was part of the July 2026 cut, the two public accounts work at different levels. The company's confirmation is solid but general, and the larger number is one employee's unverified estimate for the whole company, reported by Reuters, the news agency Thomson Reuters owns. Both describe the company as a whole, so on the question of your own team, your manager or HR contact is the better source. It's worth asking them how many people on your team were affected, whether your role or your manager's has changed, and whether more cuts are planned. Getting cut while the official version stays this general is a lousy spot to be in.
Thomson Reuters' spokesperson also said the company expected to add more than 250 net-new engineering roles over the next two years, the large majority senior and AI-native. That's a strange thing to read next to a layoff notice, but it does show which engineering jobs the company said it wanted. If you were cut from engineering and you've built things with AI tools, you can ask HR or recruiters there whether laid-off staff can apply for those roles. If you were cut and offered severance, it's also worth asking whether taking one of those jobs would change it. Asking is free, and the reply tells you whether a rehire is realistic before you spend your energy on it.
Thomson Reuters' annual reports carry a provision made up entirely of severance. In its 2025 annual report the charges to it came in higher for 2025 than for 2024, and both years ran below the 2022 and 2023 charges in its 2023 annual report. Those are totals for the whole company, and a total says little about what someone in your role would get. If you've been handed a separation agreement, the pieces worth checking are how it counts years of service, whether there's a cap, when payments start and how long health coverage runs, and you can ask for a written explanation of anything that doesn't add up before a deadline passes.
Not every exit from Thomson Reuters has come as a straight layoff, and the three kinds put different questions in front of you. A buyout is an offer you can weigh, so if you're offered one, it's worth asking for the deadline in writing and what happens to your benefits if you turn it down. A layoff is decided for you, and the questions shift to timing, pay and coverage. An office closing raises one the other two don't, whether there's somewhere else to go, so if your office is closing, you can ask whether a transfer or a remote role is on the table before your last day.
Eagan, Minnesota was the legal business's headquarters in 2023, when about 4,500 employees there were set to move to smaller offices, per The Baron, and Minnesota is also where the company told the state about its Eagan cuts in 2014. The tax and accounting business lists its headquarters in Frisco, Texas on the company's contact page, and our tracker's biggest Thomson Reuters row is a Texas one. If you worked in Minnesota, you can use Minnesota's layoff notices to look for a filing and the state's unemployment benefits page to see what a claim pays, and Texas has the same pair in Texas layoff notices and what Texas unemployment pays. Anywhere else in the US, the state layoff pages show where notices are filed. In the tracker, searching under the Thomson Reuters name and then matching the city and date turns up a specific row.

What to do if you're laid off from Thomson Reuters
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Thomson Reuters's biggest hubs: Minnesota, Texas. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Thomson Reuters's hub states run: Minnesota, Texas, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.

It expected the deal to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. If you work in Global Print, it's worth asking HR which company would employ you if the deal closes, and whether your service years and benefits would carry over.
