Laid off from Chemours.
Several of Chemours' layoffs since its 2015 spin-off from DuPont followed a decision to stop making a product, cutting the plant or unit that made it. In Florida in 2026 the cuts turned on who would do the work, as Chemours handed earth-moving there to contract miners.
What we know about Chemours severance and layoffs
- 129 jobs in Chemours' four 2026 WARN filings, all in Florida and Georgia
- 38 of 44 Trail Ridge South positions in the 2026 notice were operators
- About 5,700 employees in September 2026, down from about 9,000 in August 2015
- 6 WARN filings under the Chemours name, from Delaware in 2015 to 2026
The most recent Chemours layoff we've found
The latest dated cuts on record are 129 jobs at six Chemours sites in Florida and Georgia, where the Florida WARN letter of January 5 and the Georgia WARN record set March 6, 2026 as the first separation date.
What Chemours layoffs have meant for employees
Chemours paired the Florida cuts with idling the Maxville mine, which it described as 33 years old, and moving earth-moving there to a contract mining model. It said it would keep all mining rights and operational oversight and put its effort into advanced mineral separation, the Jacksonville Business Journal reported. The Florida WARN letter lists operators as the bulk of the affected positions at Trail Ridge South and Maxville, while most of the Starke Site's were mechanics, supervisors and support roles.
How people heard is part of the record. In Georgia, employees were told in person on January 5 and were to get written notices by mail that week, the Georgia WARN record says, and that record sits under the company's Patterson address, so a Nahunta or Jesup job is listed there too. Neither state's filing showed union representation, and the Florida letter listed no bumping rights at any of its three sites. Chemours sent that letter to the Florida Department of Commerce's REACT team and named its human resources manager as the Rapid Response contact. If you were let go at one of these sites, the state's rules are at Florida unemployment benefits or Georgia unemployment benefits.
Where Chemours dropped a product, the record tied the jobs to that product. At Edge Moor in 2015 it was a titanium dioxide grade for paper, and the plant was set up to make it, the August 2015 release says. At Belle in 2019, the jobs the Kanawha County Commission described were all in methylamines and methylamides production, the Associated Press reported, and Chemours sold that business before the year was out, according to its Form 10-K for 2020. The January 2025 Capstone exit was set out the same way in the Form 10-K for 2024, as a plan to shut down one business's equipment at Washington Works and Chambers Works. Each time, the named business marked whose work was in scope. The Capstone filing, from February 2025, expected manufacturing to end by June 30, 2025, pending local approval, so that exit was public months before the equipment was to stop.
Twice the filings show Chemours paying for when people left. Its 2017 voluntary program paid incentives above what the same 2020 filing calls its customary involuntary termination benefits, the package the Pascagoula employees leaving in 2021 were to receive, and those volunteers left after a service period both sides had agreed on. Its Capstone estimate counted cash for retention as well as severance, and the August 2026 quarterly report still expected up to $6 million in charges for retention and closure work. If you're asked to stay through a shutdown for retention pay, you can weigh it and any severance after it as separate amounts against a job that could start sooner.
Chemours is a smaller company than the one DuPont spun off, but the change from about 9,000 employees in its August 2015 release to about 5,700 in its September 2026 release also takes in businesses it sold, Belle's methylamines among them, so it isn't a count of layoffs. The WARN record is narrower still. Six filings carry the Chemours name in our WARN tracker, two from 2015 in Delaware and four from 2026 in Florida and Georgia, which leaves the company's own 8-Ks and annual reports as the fuller account of its exits. The newest program in them is the company-wide 2026 Restructuring Program, begun in the first quarter, whose severance payments the August 2026 quarterly report expected to be substantially completed by the second half of 2026.
A sourced history of Chemours layoffs
January 2026, Florida and Georgia minerals notices
Chemours' Florida WARN letter gave notice January 5 for 75 jobs at the Maxville Mine and two Starke sites, and the Georgia WARN record lists 54 at Patterson, Nahunta and Jesup, each notice giving March 6 as its first separation date.
January 2025, Capstone exit at Washington Works, Chambers Works
About 100 employees were expected to be affected when Chemours approved leaving SPS Capstone and starting to shut its equipment there and, pending approval, at Villers St. Paul, its Form 10-K for 2024 says.
2024, performance materials and corporate cost program
Begun in the third quarter, mainly in Advanced Performance Materials and some corporate functions, the program recorded $19 million in employee separation charges, according to the August 2026 quarterly report.
July 2023, Kuan Yin, Taiwan plant closing announced
Chemours announced on July 27 that the Kuan Yin site would close August 1, and its August 2026 quarterly report says the shutdown was finished late in 2023 and severance substantially paid by early 2025.
2020, Pascagoula aniline production stopped
Judging aniline not core, Chemours stopped production at its Pascagoula, Mississippi plant late in 2020, and its Form 10-K for 2020 said about 75 employees would leave in 2021 under its customary involuntary termination benefits.
September 2019, Belle, West Virginia methylamines layoffs announced
The Kanawha County Commission said Chemours would lay off 57 of 207 Belle workers, all in methylamines and methylamides production, and that the company pointed to higher raw material export costs, the Associated Press reported.
November 2015, about 400 positions and Niagara Falls
Chemours set out about 400 job cuts, about 5 percent of its workforce, to finish in 2016, and a Niagara Falls, New York production halt by the end of 2016 affecting about 200 employees and contractors, its November 2015 8-K says.
August 2015, Edge Moor closing announced near Wilmington
Chemours planned to stop production at Edge Moor at the end of September, citing years of decline in the paper uses its titanium dioxide served, its August 2015 release says.
What to do if you're laid off from Chemours
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Chemours's biggest hubs: Delaware, Florida, Georgia, West Virginia. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Chemours's hub states run: Delaware, Florida, Georgia, West Virginia, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Chemours layoff and severance questions
What severance has Chemours given laid-off employees?
Chemours said in an August 2015 release that Edge Moor employees it couldn't redeploy would receive severance benefits, and its Form 10-K for 2020 refers to customary involuntary termination benefits, which a 2017 voluntary program topped. An executive's 2019 separation agreement set out a lump sum under the Chemours Severance Pay Plan, separate notice pay and a COBRA lump sum, all conditioned on a signed release. If you're offered a package, setting any notice pay apart from the severance figure shows what each is worth.
Why did Chemours cut jobs in Florida in 2026?
A spokesperson told the Atlanta Business Chronicle that Chemours would idle its 33-year-old Maxville mine and move to a contract mining model for earth-moving, the Jacksonville Business Journal reported, and the Florida WARN letter named economic competitiveness as its reason. The letter called the cuts permanent and said no entire plant would close.
Has Chemours laid off workers in Delaware?
The Delaware cuts named in the record came in 2015, when the August 2015 release announced the Edge Moor closing outside Wilmington, where about 200 employees and 130 contractors worked. Two Delaware filings from that year are in our WARN tracker, one for 131 jobs at 974 Centre Road in July and one for 203 at Edge Moor in August.
