Laid off from Dana Incorporated.
Some of Dana's job cuts came with closing an entire plant, and others went after engineering and overhead costs. The company itself is changing too. It sold its Off-Highway business to Allison and in 2026 agreed to a combination with Eaton's Mobility business.

The most recent Dana Incorporated layoff we've found
In June 2026 Dana agreed to combine with Eaton's Mobility business in a deal it expects to close in the first quarter of 2027, keeping the Dana name. Dana expects $250 million a year in synergies within 24 months of closing, from structural costs, purchasing, manufacturing and engineering, and named Bruce McDonald executive chairman with responsibility for integration, its June 11 release says.
What Dana Incorporated layoffs have meant for employees
At Lima, the Ohio notice said there were no bumping rights because the entire plant was closing, so years on the job couldn't move anyone into another role there. Moves to other Dana plants have come up elsewhere. In 2016 a spokesman said some Glasgow employees might relocate, as WKU Public Radio relayed in an AP story; a 2007 Steelworkers settlement wrote interplant job opportunities into its protections; and in 2026 Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth asked Dana to support Robinson workers seeking transfers to other Dana or IAM-represented plants, in a letter the IAM publicized. If a transfer is offered to you, the new plant's shift, pay and commute are worth weighing against your other options, along with when Dana needs your answer.
At Auburn Hills, the company's account of its notice and the workers' accounts pull in different directions. Dana said it told affected employees as soon as the situation became clear and gave union representatives notice under its contracts. Workers told FOX 2 they had heard talk of possible layoffs back in January, then found out mid-week that their last day was that Friday, with one saying they had been told not to work it. If your notice gives a range of separation dates, or a later message names your last day, consider keeping the notice and that message and noting which date applies to you.
Union contracts have figured in several of Dana's closings. When Dana moved in Chapter 11 to reject its union contracts in February 2007, the settlement that followed with the United Steelworkers, bargained alongside a similar UAW deal, set protections such as employment security and commitments on future work, with plant closing agreements in an appendix. Lima's hourly workers were in a UAW local, Dana said it notified union representatives at Auburn Hills, and at Robinson the union and the senators asked Dana to bargain over the closing's effects for the 69 workers the union represents and to offer a comprehensive transition package. If you're in a bargaining unit at a closing plant and your local opens effects bargaining, those talks are worth following closely, since that's what the union and the senators sought at Robinson.
The cuts haven't stopped at the plant gate. Dana's 2024 actions targeted engineering and overhead, and the cost program it announced late that year went after selling, general and administrative spending and engineering expenses. Dana measured that program in dollars, reporting about $260 million of annualized savings realized through 2025 and $65 million more expected in 2026 in its 2025 10-K, and its Eaton deal release sets a dollar synergy target too, so neither says which teams lose people. Dana's restructuring costs include both contractual and noncontractual separation costs, so not all the separation pay it books is set by a contract, and the detailed severance terms on record came from a union settlement and the Allison purchase agreement. If you're salaried and you're handed a severance offer or plan documents, they're worth reading line by line, including any release of claims they ask for.
Dana's notices on record cluster in a few states. Kentucky plants filed more of the notices in our tracker than any other state's, the newest ones came from Michigan and Illinois, and the Lima notice and Dana's Maumee headquarters are in Ohio. The Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky unemployment pages each set out how a claim works in that state. Older notices also came from plants in Indiana, Alabama and Texas.
A sourced history of Dana Incorporated layoffs
April 2026, Robinson, Illinois gasket plant closing
Dana's notice, as NBC Chicago described it, set 81 position cuts from June 15, a count Illinois revised to 78 in June. The IAM said the closing would displace 69 workers it represents and backed senators' call for effects bargaining.
October 2025, Auburn Hills, Michigan thermal plant closing
Dana blamed an unexpected, immediate drop in orders driven by lower electric vehicle demand, in a statement to FOX 2. Workers said they learned on a Wednesday that Friday was their last day. Michigan's record lists 200 jobs from October 9.
2025, Lima, Ohio driveshaft plant closing
Dana Driveshaft Manufacturing said in an April 30 notice to Ohio that it would close the whole Lima plant, laying off its roughly 295 employees from about June 30 through December 31. Hourly workers were in UAW Local 1765.
2024, plant consolidations and engineering and overhead cuts
Dana announced plans to consolidate some plants and cut headcount worldwide in engineering and overhead, which its 2025 10-K ties in part to slower electric vehicle adoption. At year-end 2025 it still carried costs for about 400 more reductions.
April 2016, Glasgow, Kentucky plant closing
Dana said the Glasgow plant would close by mid-2017 as the commercial vehicle market deteriorated, and a state notice covered 191 employees. A spokesman said they'd be eligible for severance pay, in an AP report carried by WKU Public Radio.
November 2006, eight plant closings during bankruptcy
Dana planned to close eight plants and downsize three more in the U.S. and Canada, according to an SEC filing FleetOwner covered, and expected to keep shifting capacity to lower-cost countries such as Mexico. It had been in bankruptcy since March.
October 2001, restructuring of more than 30 facilities
Dana planned to cut more than 15 percent of its workforce and close or consolidate more than 30 facilities, in what Heavy Duty Trucking called its most extensive restructuring. Most of the expected cash cost was to be severance.
What to do if you're laid off from Dana Incorporated
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Dana Incorporated's biggest hubs: Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Dana Incorporated's hub states run: Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Dana Incorporated layoff and severance questions
What severance has Dana Incorporated given laid-off employees?
A 2007 United Steelworkers settlement's severance appendix offered Marion, Indiana volunteers a 52-week base-pay lump sum, less expected unemployment pay, plus four more months of health coverage. Under Dana's 2025 purchase agreement, Allison owed severance at least as favorable as the applicable policy for a year, but only to continuing Off-Highway employees whose terminations carried a right to it under Dana's or Allison's policy, and only with a timely signed, unrevoked release. No package terms for the 2025 and 2026 closings are on record in the reporting we track.
What did Dana's Off-Highway employees get in the Allison sale?
Dana's sale of the Off-Highway business to Allison closed on January 1, 2026, as its 2025 10-K records. The June 2025 agreement required Allison to credit each continuing employee's Dana service toward vesting, eligibility, vacation and severance, and it left Allison free to terminate continuing employees after the closing.
Does Dana keep paying pension contributions for laid-off union workers?
For certain union-represented U.S. employees in multiemployer pension plans, Dana says in its 2025 10-K that it generally contributes on the basis of 40 hours a week, for at most a year, when they're laid off or on leave, instead of on hours worked. If you're covered by one of those plans, it's worth checking your plan's statements for how that time is counted.
How many WARN notices has Dana filed?
Dana companies filed 11 of the notices in our WARN tracker, from 1994 to 2026, 5 of them in Kentucky, and 2 since the start of 2025, in Michigan and Illinois. A Lima, Ohio plant-closing notice from April 2025 is one more, posted by Ohio for years our tracker lacks.
