Laid off from Eaton.
Eaton has been cutting jobs while it reshapes itself. In 2025 it announced the end of engine valve production in Kearney, Nebraska, a Mobility Group plant, and in 2026 it agreed to combine Mobility with Dana. Its 2024 restructuring was still recording charges for job cuts in 2026.

The most recent Eaton layoff we've found
In June 2026 Eaton signed an agreement to merge its Mobility Group with Dana through a Reverse Morris Trust, with the merged company keeping Dana's name and closing targeted for the first quarter of 2027, its June 11 release says. Until closing, Mobility remains part of Eaton, the June 2026 employee FAQs told staff.
What Eaton layoffs have meant for employees
Eaton's layoffs show up in the record in two forms, and one tells you far more than the other about a particular job. Some are plant decisions with a site and a date, like the cut to engine valve work in Nebraska, whose Kearney WARN letter came on Eaton Mobility Group letterhead from Southfield, Michigan, the business Eaton's June 2026 release says it will combine with Dana. Others arrive as restructuring charges, and Eaton's mid-2026 10-Q splits the program it began in 2024 by business segment rather than by plant. If you're trying to tell whether a cut reaches your job, the first kind names it and the second doesn't.
If you work in the Mobility Group, the merger agreement says more about your pay than the deal announcement does. It has the companies keep each continuing employee's base pay or hourly wage and target bonus no lower than before through December 31, 2027, if the deal closes by April 1, 2027. The separation began as a planned spin-off Eaton announced in January 2026, and the June 2026 employee FAQs say Mobility staff could no longer apply for other Eaton jobs from January 25, 2026, including non-production staff more than half dedicated to Mobility. The same FAQs put the people tied to Mobility at about 13,000, the majority identified as fully dedicated to it, with a relatively small group in shared services or support roles still to be identified through Eaton's talent selection process.
For salaried, non-union U.S. employees, the plan in the 2026 proxy statement ties its benefit to service since the latest hire date and generally pays only on an involuntary exit other than for cause, which leaves two points worth knowing. If you left Eaton once and came back, the count starts at that later hire date, so years from the earlier stint don't figure in it. And because the proxy limits its description to salaried workers outside unions, it doesn't speak to an hourly or union job, where any severance would rest on other terms. If you're in that group and weighing whether to leave before a cut reaches you, a resignation is a voluntary exit, so it falls outside the involuntary termination the proxy says the plan generally pays on.
Longer-tenured Mobility employees have their own dates to watch. Eaton's U.S. defined benefit plans froze as of December 31, 2025, the FAQs say, so no one is bridged to retirement in this deal, and benefits accrued and vested by closing won't be lost under the terms of Eaton's plans. If you're Medicare-eligible and meet Eaton's retiree medical age and service rules at the spin, the FAQs give you 45 days from the spin to enroll, and passing on it then means you can't enroll later.
Eaton tied the Kearney decision to cost. A spokesperson told KSNB customer feedback showed the cost of making engine valves there was "no longer competitive", and that Eaton would keep making them at plants elsewhere in North America. Eaton has moved to close valve plants before. Its September 2006 8-K put a Saginaw, Michigan valve actuator plant and an engine valve plant in Spain on one closing list. The Kearney letter's job list counted 93 machine operator positions. The letter also said no bumping rights came with the action and no affected employee was represented by a union, and it went to the rapid response administrator at Reemployment Services in Kearney, the office notified of the layoff. For a job in one of the three states behind Eaton's 2025 filings logged by our WARN tracker, the pages for Nebraska, North Carolina and Missouri set out what an unemployment claim there involves.

What to do if you're laid off from Eaton
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Eaton's biggest hubs: Nebraska, North Carolina, Missouri. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Eaton's hub states run: Nebraska, North Carolina, Missouri, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Eaton layoff and severance questions
What severance has Eaton given laid-off employees?
Eaton's severance plan for U.S. salaried, non-union employees, as its 2026 proxy statement describes it, generally pays only after an involuntary termination other than for cause, counts service from the most recent hire date and tops out at one year of base salary plus six months of health and welfare coverage. For the Kearney valve layoffs, a spokesperson told KSNB each employee would receive a "comprehensive transition assistance package" without saying what it held.
What happens to Eaton Mobility employees in the Dana merger?
Employees working in Mobility locations will transfer to the combined company when the deal closes, which Eaton expects early in 2027, and it doesn't generally expect the merger itself to trigger severance, its June 2026 employee FAQs say. The companies agreed to keep each continuing employee's prior severance terms for 12 months after closing, subject to a signed release, in a merger agreement that also says it creates no third-party beneficiary rights in Mobility or Dana employees and doesn't bar either side from ending a job after closing.
Is Eaton closing its Kearney, Nebraska plant?
Not the whole plant. Eaton set out in July 2025 to end engine valve production in Kearney, affecting up to 219 people under its Kearney WARN letter, while gear production for car and pickup differentials would continue at a plant then employing about 300, a spokesperson told KSNB.
How many WARN notices has Eaton filed?
Our count is 50 WARN filings from 1991 to July 2025 by Eaton or entities it owns today, including Cooper Industries units such as Bussmann and Crouse-Hinds that Eaton bought with Cooper in 2012, as logged in our WARN tracker. Filings under the names of units Eaton later sold, Cooper Lighting and Eaton Hydraulics among them, stay out. Three are from 2025, in Charlotte, Ellisville, Missouri and Kearney, covering 352 jobs.
Is Eaton laying off workers in 2026?
Eaton's 2024 restructuring added $42 million of workforce reduction charges over the first two quarters of 2026, a figure from its June-quarter 10-Q, though no 2026 Eaton filing has reached our WARN tracker. On the Dana deal, Eaton's June 2026 employee FAQs said "no specific actions have been announced" on a reduction in force.
