Laid off from FreshRealm.
FreshRealm's meals went out under other companies' names, mostly Blue Apron's and Walmart's, so for the people packing them a lost customer meant a lost job. Both walked away after the 2025 recalls, plants closed one after another, and in 2026 bankruptcy sold or wound down the rest.

The most recent FreshRealm layoff we've found
The bankruptcy court in New Jersey confirmed FreshRealm's Plan of Liquidation on September 28, 2026, Kroll's case page shows. The plan governs how settlement money is distributed, the wind-down of five FreshRealm entities and the pursuit of insurance claims, as Stretto's analysis of the disclosure statement described it in August.
What FreshRealm layoffs have meant for employees
If you worked for FreshRealm, the meals you packed mostly went out under somebody else's name. Blue Apron alone was about 70 percent of the company's revenue and Walmart more than 20 percent, according to Stretto's account of the disclosure statement, so two customers paid for most of what the plants did. Linden came with the first of them. In June 2023 Blue Apron handed FreshRealm its fulfillment centers, its equipment and the people who ran them, along with a ten-year deal making FreshRealm the only maker of its meal kits, Blue Apron's 8-K exhibit shows, and Marley Spoon's U.S. operations, bistroMD and Dinnerly among them, followed in January 2024. If you came over from Blue Apron, FreshRealm was your second employer in the same building, and its biggest customer was your old one. By the bankruptcy filing, Linden was still packing about 60,000 Blue Apron boxes and meals a week.
The trouble began with food safety. From late March 2025 FreshRealm went through five Listeria recalls and withdrawals, among them the June 2025 recall of chicken fettuccine alfredo meals sold under the Marketside and Home Chef brands, and the disclosure statement pins all five on contaminated ingredients from suppliers. That didn't save either account. FreshRealm's answer was a turnaround plan built on cost cuts, consolidation and plant closures, and in October 2025 it raised $110 million in a recapitalization with its lenders, on the condition that costs shrink to fit revenue. Walmart's exit in January 2026 undid that deal, in Stretto's telling, and Blue Apron had already sent its termination notice the month before.
If your plant was Montezuma, Indianapolis or San Clemente, it closed before the bankruptcy, and our tracker also holds a 53-job California closure notice from the day of the Indianapolis letter. The Indianapolis terms are public, because the state posts the December 2025 letter, and that letter treated severance as a reward for staying to the end. Anyone who resigned or was fired during the notice period would lose the payment, and nobody could transfer, since the whole site was closing. The letter also said wages would be paid on the usual schedule through the notice period and promised information on unemployment and COBRA. If you got a FreshRealm closing letter and left before its date, it's worth checking whether it carried the same stay-to-the-end condition, and whether you signed anything on the way out.
For anyone wondering how much of FreshRealm the bankruptcy cuts reached, two figures line up without meaning the same thing. The three 2026 notices in our tracker count 1,017 jobs, and the disclosure statement separately estimates the company's U.S. workforce at about 1,017 people, so the notices and the workforce were about the same size, though neither figure shows that every employee got a notice. Two Tracy workers gave CBS News Sacramento their accounts, a packer of four years who learned at a meeting that June 27 would be her last day and an assembly line worker who said many coworkers had five or ten years in.
For work done after the April 27 filing, FreshRealm asked the court in its first-day motions to keep paying employees in the ordinary course, its April 27, 2026 release said. The court set July 27, 2026 as the general deadline for proofs of claim, and Kroll's case page carries the claim form and the case's deadlines. If you believe FreshRealm still owes you money, it's worth starting there.

What to do if you're laid off from FreshRealm
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. FreshRealm's biggest hubs: New Jersey, California, Indiana, Texas. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what FreshRealm's hub states run: New Jersey, California, Indiana, Texas, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
FreshRealm layoff and severance questions
What severance has FreshRealm given laid-off employees?
For the Indianapolis closing, FreshRealm's December 2025 letter described a one-time lump sum for employees who stayed through their closing date, paid at FreshRealm's discretion and only with a signed separation agreement. No severance terms appear in FreshRealm's April 27, 2026 release or in the NJBIZ and CBS News Sacramento reports on the Linden, Tracy and Lancaster notices.
Why did FreshRealm file for bankruptcy?
FreshRealm blamed “a significant ingredient supply disruption in 2025” in its April 27, 2026 release. Listeria incidents traced to suppliers cost FreshRealm its two biggest customers, Blue Apron and Walmart, roughly 90 percent of revenue between them, by January 2026, according to Stretto's summary of the disclosure statement.
How many jobs did FreshRealm cut in Linden, New Jersey?
FreshRealm's Linden cuts total 628 jobs on New Jersey's WARN list, with end dates from late July to the end of August 2026, though early reports of the notice said 637. The settlement NJBIZ reported at the filing proposed handing Blue Apron's production and fulfillment to Misfits Market.
What happened at FreshRealm's Lancaster, Texas plant?
FreshRealm's Lancaster notice carried a June 27, 2026 effective date, but the count was blank when Texas posted it on April 30, The Dallas Express found, and our tracker now records 161 jobs. The paper also reported that as of April 30, Texas had paid none of the $672,000 Enterprise Fund grant it offered FreshRealm in 2024.
Is FreshRealm going out of business?
FreshRealm filed a Plan of Liquidation in July 2026, Kroll's case page shows, and the hearing on selling the rest of the business was adjourned indefinitely. By then the operating business had been sold or wound down, and its main remaining job was a transition services agreement with Misfits Market that ran through August 31, Stretto reported from the disclosure statement.
