The most recent Lennox layoff we've found

The newest Lennox layoff on record, according to the Times-Republican, was set for September 28, 2025 at its Marshalltown, Iowa plant, just over a month after the previous round there was announced.

What Lennox layoffs have meant for employees

When Lennox has explained a Marshalltown layoff, it has pointed to production and demand. In 2020 a spokesperson said future staffing would be aligned with an economic recovery and product demand, according to a KCRG report that April, and in 2025 the company tied its August cut to bringing inventory back to normal and its September cut to business needs and market conditions, the Times-Republican reported in a July 2025 story and a September follow-up. Lennox's annual report for 2025 says the number of hourly workers varies to match labor needs as demand fluctuates, and it still listed Marshalltown as a manufacturing and distribution site at year's end. So the 2020 and 2025 cuts came at a plant that kept running, sized by Lennox's own account to demand and business needs. Before the January 2023 cut, a city report had counted about 915 Lennox employees in Marshalltown, the paper noted in a December 2022 story. At Stuttgart, Arkansas, Talk Business & Politics reported two rounds of cuts within months, in late 2008 and February 2009, at a plant that also kept running.

UAW Local 893 was the union serving Lennox employees in July 2025, when the Times-Republican reported the August cut, and Lennox's annual report says its Marshalltown-based union ratified a five-year labor agreement on November 1, 2021. One worker caught in that January 2023 layoff told the paper there was "no set return date," and that as he understood it, Lennox had to offer laid-off employees a chance to return, with their seniority and pay, before hiring anyone new. That's one worker's account. If you're hoping to be called back, it's worth keeping your phone number and address current with both the company and the local.

The first number on a Lennox notice hasn't always been the last. Marshalltown's June 2025 notice was later amended to reflect fewer people affected on August 1, and a second filing added more layoffs for late September, Lennox told the paper that month. Each Grenada notice was a layoff, not a closure, Mississippi's 2023 notice list and 2025 list show, with the economy cited in 2023 and a down season in 2025. Grenada is where Advanced Distributor Products, the Lennox business that sells evaporator coils, air handlers and unit heaters, filed those notices. If your job is on one of these notices, its count and dates are the company's plan on the day it filed, and Marshalltown's 2025 filings show that plan changing twice.

The closings Lennox announced between 2006 and 2009 each called for shifting the work to another Lennox site, in South Carolina, Georgia or Saltillo, Mexico, according to its 2006 8-K, 2007 8-K and 2009 8-K. Each of those filings estimated the one-time termination benefits of the action it announced, and the Bellevue one also estimated relocation costs for certain employees as well as equipment. Of the three, the Bellevue filing is the one that sets union termination benefits apart, conditioning them on the eligibility rules in the UAW Local 1623 contract. If a union agreement covers you, that closing is the example on record of a contract's own terms deciding who qualified.

When 2025 closed, Lennox's property list still named Marshalltown, Grenada and Stuttgart, the three plants where it cut jobs without closing them, along with Orangeburg, South Carolina and Tifton, Georgia, two of the sites its earlier closings were set to send work to. For a claim after a Marshalltown layoff, there's more at Iowa unemployment benefits, after a Grenada one at Mississippi unemployment benefits, and after a Stuttgart one at Arkansas unemployment benefits.
