Laid off from Lineage Logistics.

Workers in Lineage warehouses have gotten notices that came with a new employer's job offer, and notices of layoffs and closings. Since 2022 the record holds both kinds, once at the same Pennsylvania warehouse, and telling them apart while a building is being sold or idled is hard.

The most recent Lineage Logistics layoff we've found

Lineage had idled five facilities in 2026 by early August, after 10 in 2025, taking almost 2.5 million square feet out of its U.S. network, and was evaluating a handful more, CEO Greg Lehmkuhl said on its August 5, 2026 call, adding that he didn't expect that pace to continue.

What Lineage Logistics layoffs have meant for employees

When Lineage takes a building out of service, it calls that idling, and CEO Greg Lehmkuhl said on the February 2026 earnings call that idling lets the company move labor and customers to adjacent sites, lowering cost and filling the buildings that take them in. On the August 2026 call he added that a couple of idled buildings could be turned back on for specific customers. Lineage put the 2025 idlings at around 1% of its supply, a sliver of its network that's a whole workplace to the people in each building. If your building is being idled, it's worth asking whether you're among the people moving with the work, which site you'd go to, on what shift and at what pay, and getting the answer in writing before you decide anything.

Warehouse operations have changed hands at Lineage in both directions, and on that August call management said it intends to bring its reported leverage down through strategic divestitures as part of a portfolio review. A sale can produce a notice that reads like a layoff. When Lineage passed its Solon operation to Giant Eagle, its own letter to Ohio described a permanent separation for everyone affected, while the city's development director told the Cleveland Jewish News that "no one loses their job" because Giant Eagle intended to hire everyone back. If a notice reaches you during a sale, it's worth asking whether a written offer from the new operator comes with it, and on what conditions, since a promise made to a town isn't the same as one made to you.

The East Pottsville crew heard plenty of reassurance when the building changed hands. The county commissioners' chair told the Republican & Herald in June 2025 that he hoped "nobody will lose their job," and the county's economic development director said he was confident the workers would stay on at Lineage operations in Highridge or Hazle Township. Then came Lineage's own layoff notice for the building, and WFMZ couldn't learn whether those workers would be offered positions at other Lineage facilities, with the company not answering its requests. If you're one of them, it's worth asking HR, in writing, about openings at Lineage's other Pennsylvania sites, among them Allentown, Bethlehem Township, Hazle Township and East Greenville, and whether any of your Tyson service carries over.

If you work in an office or a site support role, the CFO's description of the cost program on that February 2026 call is worth reading closely. He said it covered admin work and indirect costs at the sites, that the company was asking where work could be centralized and whether functions overlapped between a warehouse and corporate, and that it was looking to AI to "make do more with less," adding that "these are never easy decisions." The company expected about half of those savings to show up in 2026. If duties like yours are being folded into a central team, it's worth asking whether a role on that team is open to you and where it would be based.

Lineage's paperwork doesn't always carry the same name. Its Pennsylvania notice was filed as Lineage Logistics and its Ohio letter came from Lineage Logistics Services, while the company now calls itself Lineage, Inc., so it's worth trying each version in our WARN tracker. If you were laid off in Pennsylvania, the state's unemployment benefits rules are worth reading next. If you're offered a transfer and severance is also on the table, it's worth asking whether turning the transfer down would cost you the severance.

Lineage Logistics' notice to Pennsylvania, reported by WFMZ, set the layoff of 208 workers at its East Pottsville warehouse, 110 Keystone Boulevard East in Cass Township, for May 27. Lineage had bought the building from Tyson Foods in 2025.

  • January 2025, staff cuts after an operations review

Lineage confirmed to Reuters that it had "made the difficult decision to reduce certain positions within the company" as part of a comprehensive review of its operations, after the Wall Street Journal reported the cuts that week.

What to do if you're laid off from Lineage Logistics

Lineage Logistics layoff and severance questions

What severance has Lineage Logistics given laid-off employees?

Neither Reuters on the January 2025 cuts nor WFMZ on the Pottsville notice put a figure on severance, and nothing else in the reporting we track does. If you're union-represented, as fewer than 5% of Lineage's roughly 16,000 U.S. workers were at the end of 2025 according to its annual report, it's worth checking what your local's contract says about layoffs. If you've been given separation papers, you can ask HR what plan or policy sets the amount before you sign.

What happened to the Tyson workers at the Pottsville warehouse Lineage bought?

Tyson's June 2025 notice said it would permanently terminate the 314 workers at its Pottsville Distribution Center, but the company said, per the Republican & Herald, that it filed out of caution and that Lineage would offer them jobs after a transition period Tyson expected to end around Aug. 15. Lineage's deal announcement put the Tyson employees it planned to take on at more than 1,000 across four warehouses. In March 2026, WFMZ reported Lineage's own layoff notice for that building, effective May 27.

Why is Lineage idling warehouses?

The reasons CEO Greg Lehmkuhl gave on Lineage's February 2026 call were lower overall cost and higher occupancy at the sites that take in an idled building's customers. On the same call Lineage cited CBRE data showing U.S. public refrigerated warehouse supply up 14.5% from 2021 to 2025, while consumer demand for what it stores grew 5%.

How many WARN notices has Lineage Logistics filed?

Three filings in our WARN tracker carry Lineage's own names, from Solon, Ohio in 2022, Federalsburg, Maryland in 2025 and East Pottsville, Pennsylvania in 2026. The tracker matches 5 rows to Lineage in all because it also counts 2 notices filed before Lineage owned the filers, by Richmond Cold Storage in 2010 and Millard Refrigerated Services in 2013, companies Lineage's own history says it bought in 2011 and 2014.
