Laid off from Lucid Motors.

Lucid's cuts wear on the people living through them, and in Casa Grande, where the factory was expected to drive the local economy, the rounds have come to feel like a pattern that reaches past the plant to families and small businesses.

What Lucid Motors layoffs have meant for employees

If you're still at Lucid, it's worth knowing how February's reassurance held up. After February's cut, interim chief executive Marc Winterhoff told CNBC, in remarks the San Francisco Chronicle reported, that Lucid was adjusting to the level it wanted and needed to be at, and that "it's nothing that will continue in the future." In June the company announced another cut in its June 8-K. Getting through one round and then losing your job in the next is its own kind of exhausting, and a reassurance like Winterhoff's is worth weighing against that record rather than planning around.

June's Arizona notice, as the Arizona Republic laid it out, reads like a staff list for the plant, naming production team members and their leads, junior repair technicians and maintenance technicians alongside people in engineering, logistics, materials handling, environmental health and safety, and security. It also took in remote workers, and Lucid gave all of them notice even though, the company said, it wasn't clear whether they should be attributed to the Casa Grande location. When Lucid cut at the plant in 2023, laid-off workers there were to get two months of paid leave plus a severance package, AZFamily reported. If June's list included you, it's worth finding out whether pay continues through a similar stretch, and, if you worked remotely, which location Lucid counted you under, since the notice itself is tied to Casa Grande. If you're filing in Arizona, there's more on Arizona unemployment benefits.

February's news arrived by email. Those affected got a personal email with the news and the details of their severance package, EV reported, while Winterhoff's memo told the people who received it that their roles weren't affected. For the Newark headquarters, Lucid's letter to state and local officials, as the Chronicle quoted it, gave changing business needs as the reason and called the cuts permanent. If one of those package emails reached you, it's worth saving it, since it's where the details of your package were set out. For a claim filed in California, the details are on California unemployment benefits.

For one Casa Grande family, health coverage was among the biggest worries. When June's cut reached Melody Johnson's husband after five years and multiple earlier rounds, she told AZFamily the family had to work out how to pay the mortgage and get insurance again. If continued health benefits are part of a package you're offered, it's worth asking how long they last and who pays for them, and how COBRA works is useful background before that conversation. If paying for COBRA yourself looks out of reach, COBRA alternatives covers other ways to stay insured.

Contractors have been part of Lucid's cuts too. The 2023 round was set to affect employees and contractors, Rawlinson's email said, and June's reduction included contractors, per the 8-K, while the package language in 2023 and in Lucid's June statement spoke of impacted employees. If you were placed at Lucid through a staffing firm, it's worth asking the firm what, if anything, it offers when a client cuts back.

February's cut left hourly production alone but still reached Lucid's Arizona operations, EV reported, including recruiters and former Nikola engineers who had joined less than a year earlier, when Lucid acquired select Nikola facilities in Coolidge and Phoenix out of bankruptcy. Lucid had said it planned to offer jobs to more than 300 former Nikola workers with that deal, EV noted. If February's cut sent you back to interviewing, explaining a layoff covers how to talk about a reduction Lucid announced as a share of its U.S. workforce.

What to do if you're laid off from Lucid Motors

Lucid Motors layoff and severance questions

What severance has Lucid given laid-off employees?

The 2023 package included access to career resources, Lucid-paid healthcare coverage continuation and acceleration of equity, Peter Rawlinson's email told staff. In February 2026 Lucid was providing severance, a bonus, continued health benefits and transition support, Marc Winterhoff's memo said, as published by EV, and after June's cut a Lucid statement carried by AZFamily said impacted employees were getting severance, benefits and support. If you're handed a package, those earlier terms make a fair checklist to hold it against.

How many people did Lucid lay off in 2026?

Both 2026 cuts came as shares of Lucid's U.S. workforce, about 12% in February, per its February 8-K, and about 18% in June, per its June 8-K. The notices from 2026 in our WARN tracker list 1,160 jobs in Arizona and California, a count of jobs on notices rather than of people already gone.

Why did Lucid lay off workers in 2026?

February's cut was made to optimize operating expenses as Lucid focused on starting production of its Midsize platform, the robotaxi market, ADAS technology and selling its current models in existing and new geographies, its February 8-K said. June's plan aimed to streamline the company's structure, optimize operating expenses and align production plans with anticipated demand, according to the June 8-K, and the company's statement, as AZFamily ran it, added reducing inventory and adapting to declining market conditions.

Where can I find Lucid's WARN notices?

Lucid's notices on record name two filers, Lucid USA, Inc. and Lucid Group, Inc., and our WARN tracker holds its California notices from 2023, 2024 and 2026 and its June 2026 Arizona notice. Arizona's WARN register also lists Lucid USA's March 31, 2023 notice for 968 employees at Casa Grande, which our tracker doesn't hold. If you're hunting for your site's notice, searching both names is worth it, since the California filer changed from Lucid USA to Lucid Group in 2026.
