Laid off from Mohawk Industries.

Waiting to learn where you stand at Mohawk has been draining in different ways. Some layoffs came as a mill closing in a town that had leaned on it for decades, the work moving to northwest Georgia. Others came inside a restructuring running since 2022, announced as cost-savings targets.

The most recent Mohawk Industries layoff we've found

Mohawk's newest restructuring on record is the set of projects its second-quarter release announced in July 2026, which it said would cut costs about $60 million and require about $50 million in cash costs and capital spending. Mohawk booked $9.6 million of severance in that quarter, its quarterly report shows, $9.0 million of it in Flooring Rest of the World and $0.5 million in Flooring North America.

What Mohawk Industries layoffs have meant for employees

The closings on record include mills where people had spent most of their working lives. At Bennettsville, several employees had worked at the plant for more than 40 years, and Mohawk jobs were a quarter of the county's manufacturing work, WPDE reported; one worker told the station he'd filled out dozens of applications at a job fair without a callback. In Eden, Mohawk's vice president for human services said many employees had spent their entire careers there, according to Floor Daily. If that's your story, it's a hard place to stand, and a company-wide savings figure doesn't make it any smaller.

Lyerly and Bennettsville show how much a plant's location shaped what came next. At Lyerly, in Georgia, the closing came with an offer of jobs at other Mohawk plants close by, the Times Free Press reported, while the South Carolina campus came with outplacement help aimed at local employers even as its yarn work went to Mohawk plants in northwest Georgia, according to Floor Daily. The county's administrator called the closing unexpected, since the council had approved new tax incentives for Mohawk that April. If Mohawk offers you work at another plant, the shift, the pay rate and the drive are all fair to ask about before you decide, along with what declining would mean for any package you'd otherwise receive.

The restructuring Mohawk has run since 2022 reaches people differently. When it began, the company said its most significant actions would be in North American flooring, including some fiber assets and reducing rug manufacturing capacity, as the Bennettsville report quoted its release. Since then Mohawk has shuttered less-efficient facilities, decommissioned obsolete equipment, realigned its manufacturing footprint and consolidated logistics, its 2025 annual report says, and it expects the cumulative actions to deliver about $365 million in annualized savings once they're finalized. In North American flooring, its 2025 10-K shows, $61.3 million of the segment's $88.3 million in 2025 restructuring costs were booked as asset write-downs and $1.0 million as severance. If Mohawk announces a change at the warehouse where you work, you can ask how it affects your job, your worksite and where you'd report. The same goes for a line that's being idled rather than a whole plant closing, where it's worth asking whether you're being offered another line, a transfer or a separation, and having that answer on paper.

A closing date isn't always the last day of work. At Bennettsville, several workers told WPDE they learned on a Monday that Friday would be their last day, weeks ahead of the Oct. 6 date. If you've been handed a closing date, it's worth asking whether pay runs to it if the plant stops sooner, and whether taking another job before then ends that pay. If your health coverage came through Mohawk, how COBRA works lays out what keeping it involves, and negotiating a severance agreement is worth a look if a package comes with a release to sign.

At Bennettsville, South Carolina's employment department and Marlboro County ran two job fairs with more than 50 employers alongside one Mohawk held, and the state's 2022 WARN report points readers to its Dislocated Worker Unit and Rapid Response services. If a closing is announced where you work, it may be worth contacting your state's workforce office early to ask what it offers. If you worked at a Georgia plant, Georgia unemployment benefits is the place to start, and the South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Alabama pages cover the other states where Mohawk's tracker filings and closings sit. If you're tracing an older notice, you can look in our WARN tracker under Mohawk and under Aladdin Mills and Horizon Carpet, names some of its Georgia filings went in under.
