Laid off from MV Transportation.

In MV Transportation's record, jobs have lasted as long as the contracts behind them. MV's letters gave the staff on an ending contract no claim to other MV jobs, so when an agency or employer moved the work, staying on it depended on being hired by whoever took it over.

The most recent MV Transportation layoff we've found

MV's Collier Area Transit staff began a 45-day transition to WeDriveU in August 2026, ahead of layoffs MV had set to begin September 30, with interviews pending and the Transport Workers Union negotiating to keep its 128 members on the job, Naples Press reported. WeDriveU hadn't told the paper whether it planned to hire all 151.

What MV Transportation layoffs have meant for employees

Clients' decisions set the timing of MV's Las Vegas and Collier County layoffs. In Las Vegas, MV's Nevada letter said the Regional Transportation Commission told it on the evening of November 29, 2024 that its paratransit contract wouldn't be extended, though MV had expected to keep the service until a new contract started in July 2025. The letter went to the state on December 3 and set layoffs for December 29. In Collier County, a selection committee first recommended MV, then county staff found MV wouldn't meet the transit system's budget and stopped negotiating with it, Naples Press reported, and MV's notice set layoffs there to begin September 30. In Okaloosa County, where MV's contract was due to expire August 31, the transit director told commissioners in May that the county still faced a $500,000 hit to its general fund without further action as it moved to suspend its scheduled buses, Get The Coast reported. Decisions like those can leave an MV worker's last day on a client's timetable rather than MV's.

Where the work moved, the next employer ran its own hiring on its own clock. North County Transit District's transition page set March 28, 2025 as the deadline for MV's bus staff to apply ahead of a July 1 handover, planned to send contingent offer letters in phases through April 11, and said failing a drug or alcohol test, a physical or a background check, or lacking a required license, could keep an MV employee from being hired. Benefits there were to begin on the first day of the month after the hire date, with the paperwork in on time, and vacation for union-represented staff would follow a contract still being negotiated. The district's public job fair that April was for outside applicants filling vacancies, and the page said it wasn't meant for transition staff with priority status. If a new operator takes applications while you're still on an MV contract, NCTD's process shows why its deadline counted, since the page required an application from every transition staffer and asked anyone who missed a deadline to get in touch right away.

In Naples, where most of MV's staff had a union, the open question was whether the incoming company would deal with it. TWU Local 525's president told Naples Press that an incoming company can decline to recognize the union and bargain with workers one by one, and that WeDriveU might hire most of the drivers while filling other positions with its own employees. His local covered drivers, dispatchers, reservationists and the crew that cleans the buses, not the mechanics, and he advised its members to tell WeDriveU to contact him. A Transport Workers Union representative told WINK News that Collier's transit workers had been through four or five such transitions and that each had worked out, though every one was different and nothing guaranteed their terms would carry over to a new company. MV's notices have listed more than drivers. The Nevada letter named 24 dispatchers, 14 road supervisors, six schedulers and auto technicians in four grades beside its drivers. If you're a dispatcher, reservationist or mechanic rather than a driver, the Naples account is a reason to apply to the incoming operator in your own right rather than counting on the driver hiring to include you.

Three of MV's tracker filings carry another MV name. Nevada's Las Vegas notice was filed by MV Contract Transportation, as was a 2019 Baltimore notice, and a 2016 Colorado notice came from MV Public Transportation, so if you're going through a state's WARN list for your own site, its notice may carry one of those names. MV's tracker filings since 2025 are from California, Florida and Washington, and New York's WARN records hold its notice for 2025 layoffs there, so our pages on California, Florida, Washington and New York unemployment benefits cover how a claim works in each.

What to do if you're laid off from MV Transportation

MV Transportation layoff and severance questions

What severance has MV Transportation given laid-off employees?

MV's Nevada letter of December 2024, its Florida letter of July 2025 and New York's WARN notice for the 2025 layoffs don't mention severance. The two letters expected the layoffs to be permanent and gave no one losing a job a right to claim another MV job. If MV puts a severance agreement in front of you, negotiating severance sets out what's open to discussion.

Does the operator that takes over an MV Transportation contract hire MV's workers?

North County Transit District did, directly hiring the contracted staff when it took MV's bus work in-house in 2025, KPBS reported, after its transition page offered MV employees a hiring preference. Elsewhere the record shows plans, with TransWest planning to rehire some of MV's Redmond shuttle staff, The Registry reported, and Capital Metro's chief executive expecting the people running Austin's buses to keep running them, according to the Austin Monitor.

How many WARN notices has MV Transportation filed?

The state archives behind our WARN tracker hold 67 filings under MV names, MV Contract Transportation and MV Public Transportation among them, from a 2011 Virginia notice on, and 11 filings covering 1,454 jobs since the start of 2025. Those archives hold no New York rows before 2026, so the notice for MV's 2025 layoffs of 565 New York City workers sits in New York's WARN records instead.

Does a WARN notice from MV Transportation always end in layoffs?

Not always. MV's July 2025 letter for 146 Naples jobs was a conditional notice, set to take effect only if Collier County's board didn't approve a contract extension, and the commissioners extended MV's contract a seventh time, adding 12 months, Naples Press reported. MV's next Naples notice came in July 2026, as the county moved the contract to WeDriveU.
