Laid off from TikTok.

TikTok's US staff were split in January 2026 between a majority-American joint venture, which handles US data protection, trust and safety and content moderation, and a ByteDance-owned company. Both filed 2026 layoff notices, the venture for its Nashville office and the ByteDance side for TikTok Shop jobs in Bellevue.

The most recent TikTok layoff we've found

In August 2026, TT Commerce & Global Services, a company its notice identified as affiliated with TikTok, moved to lay off 75 people in Bellevue on October 19 in what it called a restructuring, two weeks after TikTok said it would close its Nashville office, according to KOMO.

What TikTok layoffs have meant for employees

ByteDance built up its Seattle-area footprint as it grew TikTok Shop, according to GeekWire, and by mid-2025 it had more than 440,000 square feet of space in Bellevue and had just opened a new office there. Layoff notices followed in July 2025. When they surfaced, TikTok said it regularly reviews its operations as the TikTok Shop business evolves, and Bloomberg reported that TikTok Shop, the company's fastest-growing business, had fallen short of recent internal sales targets and that TikTok had replaced some staff near Seattle with managers connected to China. For people on those teams, the cuts came inside the part of TikTok that Bloomberg described as growing fastest.

A year later, the 2026 notice, filed by TT Commerce & Global Services, said the cuts weren't the result of relocating or contracting out the work, KOMO reported. It set October 19 as the end date for anyone who didn't land another role in the company or turned one down, so landing an internal role was what changed the outcome. If another TikTok job is offered to you before a separation date, it's worth knowing that in Bellevue declining it left the end date where it was.

Nashville was a different kind of cut, a whole office set to close rather than a list of roles. TikTok had signed for 145,000 square feet on Music Row in 2024 and become the building's anchor tenant, according to The Next Web, and the office was set to close only two years after the lease was signed, as KOMO noted. The office housed some members of TikTok's content-moderation team, TechCrunch reported, and the joint venture that filed the notice is the company TikTok's joint venture announcement put in charge of trust and safety policies and content moderation. No union contract covered the Nashville workers, and none had bumping rights, according to Tennessee's WARN memo. If you were among them, the same memo names the Northern Middle rapid response team, staffed by Workforce Essentials, as the group asked to coordinate services for the affected workers and the employer.

TikTok's US layoff notices before 2026 went in as TikTok Inc., TikTok, Inc. or ByteDance, Inc., and the two filed in 2026 came from the entities on either side of the split, TikTok USDS JV and TT Commerce & Global Services, all five of them in our WARN tracker. ByteDance kept 19.9% of the venture while Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX hold 15% each, according to TikTok's announcement, dated January 23, 2026, that the venture had been established. The same announcement says the venture was built on TikTok's U.S. Data Security organization. TT Commerce & Global Services stayed under ByteDance ownership, Music Business Worldwide reported, citing Business Insider. If you're tracing the notice that covers your job, the employer name to look under depends on which side of that split you work on and when the notice was filed. Washington unemployment benefits, Tennessee unemployment benefits and California unemployment benefits set out how to file in the three states where those notices went.

TikTok's commercial teams were cut before the split as well, in sales and advertising in 2024 by NPR's account and in e-commerce in 2025. Under TikTok's January 2026 announcement, e-commerce, advertising and marketing stayed with TikTok global's US entities rather than the venture, and Business Insider reported that staff on products tied to TikTok's global operations would stay with ByteDance while data protection and algorithm security staff would move to the venture. That points to where a commercial job sits without settling it for any one person. If you have a notice or employment paperwork, the employer it names is what settles which company covers your job.

Money was only part of what TikTok's Dublin agreement covered. Signers agreed not to pursue any complaint, proceedings or claim against the company and not to make requests or complaints under data protection law about how it handled their personal data, according to The Irish Times. If a separation agreement from either TikTok company reaches you, its clauses are worth reading as closely as the payment, and you can ask how the figure was calculated and what benefits come with it.
