Laid off from UnityPoint Health.
UnityPoint Health's 2026 IT job cuts came from its plan to hand some IT work to an outside company, alongside a plan to move some revenue cycle work to a vendor. Some IT staff got an offer from the incoming company, and remote staff who declined it got layoff notices.

The most recent UnityPoint Health layoff we've found
UnityPoint's newest notice on record, its July 28, 2026 WARN letter, covers the revenue cycle layoff and sets separations for about 317 employees to begin February 28, 2027. It assigns 229 of those jobs to remote workers based out of the West Des Moines headquarters, the count Iowa's July 28 filing shows in our WARN tracker.
What UnityPoint Health layoffs have meant for employees
The job titles on UnityPoint's letters show who these layoffs reached. On the IT side they run from Epic application analysts and desktop engineers to IT technical support representatives, according to the role list in the April 14 IT letter, and the July 28 revenue cycle letter lists coders, billing and follow-up specialists, schedulers, preauthorization staff and RN-titled clinical documentation specialists. The dates beside each title are scheduled separation dates for that position, and on the IT list one title carries two, so if your title appears, any letter or message UnityPoint sent you is what settles which date applies to you.
Each of these layoffs came with another company stepping in to do the work. UnityPoint's April 15 release said some IT and revenue cycle functions would move to third-party vendors and that IT roles would be eliminated as part of that transition, and its July 8 release named Omega Healthcare for the revenue cycle side, calling the eliminated roles non-patient-facing. If you were cut from one of those groups, your job left with the work, so the separation date and any offer from the incoming firm are what touch you most directly.
For some IT staff, the outsourcing brought a decision before it brought a layoff. The May 14 letter calls turning down the partner's offer the remote team members' "independent decision," after which their UnityPoint jobs ran on to a scheduled separation. If the outside firm offers you a job, lining up its pay, benefits and first day against your UnityPoint separation date shows what each choice keeps and what it gives up. If severance paperwork arrives instead, what a severance agreement covers is there when you want it.
UnityPoint's letters count remote staff at the office their assignments came from, so a count can follow an assigned office rather than a home address. The April letter tied IT staff working from home to the Hiawatha IT office, counted Illinois residents who reported out of state and added remote workers in 11 other states, and it tied 15 of its 25 Wisconsin jobs to Meriter Hospital in Madison. The July letter tied 229 remote revenue cycle workers to the West Des Moines headquarters and listed residents of Illinois and 13 more states. If you already know which state your claim belongs to, the Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin unemployment pages cover those three, and the state-by-state list covers the others the letters reach.
How much warning people got depended on the group. The IT notice went out April 14 with first separations on July 24, a little over three months later, and some IT roles carry later dates into October. Revenue cycle staff heard on July 7 how the change would affect them, and UnityPoint's July 28 letter records that they were given notice on July 13 and sets their separations for February 28, 2027, about seven and a half months after that notice. Six of them are union-represented and entitled to bumping rights under their collective bargaining agreement or otherwise, the letter says, a protection the April letter says none of the affected IT employees had.
If you're working out whether a cut at your hospital is UnityPoint's, its footprint has moved in both directions lately. Methodist, Proctor and Pekin hospitals in Peoria went to Carle Health at an April 1, 2023 closing, along with 76 clinics and Methodist College, and Keith Knepp, Carle's new Peoria president, said current employees' jobs and salaries would stay intact, WCBU reported. In Sioux City, UnityPoint took over MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in September 2025, a deal KWIT said would bring nearly 1,000 more employees into UnityPoint Health Sioux City. When interviews start, explaining a layoff helps put an outsourcing cut into words.

What to do if you're laid off from UnityPoint Health
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. UnityPoint Health's biggest hubs: Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what UnityPoint Health's hub states run: Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
UnityPoint Health layoff and severance questions
What severance has UnityPoint Health given laid-off employees?
Affected team members would get severance, benefits continuation and career transition support, UnityPoint said in an April 15 release, and its July 8 release repeated that for revenue cycle staff. Some affected employees might move to other jobs at UnityPoint or Accenture, a spokesperson told the Business Record, and the paper reported that the remaining employees would receive packages including severance pay. None of the three gives a dollar figure, a weeks-per-year count or any other formula.
Why is UnityPoint Health laying off IT and revenue cycle workers?
Rising labor, supply and drug costs, lower reimbursement and growing demand for complex care led UnityPoint to review its finances and move some of that work to vendors, according to the system's April 15 release, with chief executive Scott Kizer describing "a period of sustained financial pressure." It said it chose the IT and revenue cycle functions to limit the impact on direct patient care, and that as a not-for-profit it reinvests the savings rather than paying investors.
Did UnityPoint Health's IT workers get job offers from the outsourcing partner?
Some did. In April a UnityPoint spokesperson told the Business Record that some affected employees could land other jobs inside UnityPoint or at Accenture, which the paper reported was taking over IT operations, and UnityPoint's May 14 letter covers remote staff who declined an offer from its IT partner and were kept on until their separation date.
How many WARN notices has UnityPoint Health filed?
UnityPoint accounts for 21 rows in our WARN tracker. Eighteen date from 2026 and come from three UnityPoint letters listed office by office, and three are 2012 Iowa notices filed as Iowa Health Home Care, which UnityPoint's About page says is now UnityPoint at Home and UnityPoint Hospice. The 2026 rows total 544 jobs, a sum that keeps Wisconsin's original 25 for the April letter, which the state later revised to 3.
Did UnityPoint Health lay off workers at Trinity in Rock Island?
Three IT workers on site at Rock Island Trinity West Hospital were on UnityPoint's April 14 WARN letter, part of 18 in Illinois, and the other 15 lived in Illinois but reported to sites elsewhere. The revenue cycle layoff adds 50 Illinois residents who also report out of state, the July 28 letter says, and Illinois logged them in August under the same notice, so our WARN tracker shows one Rock Island row of 68.
