Laid off from Peraton.

In 2025 Peraton said it sends layoff notices early, as a precaution, when a federal contract might end sooner than planned. At two NASA sites, Peraton was still running the work after the dates in those notices.

The most recent Peraton layoff we've found

In October 2026 Peraton notified Maryland of a layoff of 26 employees at a Fort Meade address, according to the state's 2026 WARN log.

What Peraton layoffs have meant for employees

Two of Peraton's 2025 notices name its environmental test and integration work in Greenbelt, Maryland, and a third names Peraton Balloon Operations in Palestine, Texas, our WARN filings tracker shows. Peraton's spokesperson said in 2025 that contract completion and re-competition dates turn on changes in administration, current government funding and shutdowns, FFXnow reported. A Peraton recruiter had told the same outlet that spring's federal contract cancellations hit the company, with new awards making up part of the loss.

Peraton was still doing the work at both NASA sites after the dates in its 2025 notices. At the Texas balloon base, Peraton warned of layoffs in stages while it worked to keep the contract, KETK reported, and NASA's facility page still listed Peraton as manager in September 2026. At Goddard, Peraton's contract ran past the effective dates on both of its 2025 notices, to September 30, 2026, in the federal contract data in HigherGov's listing. Neither record tells you what happened to any single job on those notices. If you're on a Peraton notice tied to a contract, the contract's status can change after the notice goes out, and a contract's end date and extensions are public in records like that one, so you can follow both.

When the work itself moved, in the 2021 Navy network handover to Leidos, many of the people moved with it by Leidos's own account, and Peraton had predicted beforehand that most would be kept, according to BoiseDev and Washington Technology. Leidos said it wanted the "tribal knowledge" of the people who'd worked the program. If your contract is going to another company, applying for a job with the incoming contractor is one option to weigh, and that handover is the record's example of a successor hiring many of the people already doing the work.

In October 2025 Peraton described a Family First program that let workers affected by contract changes apply for priority placement in other positions at the company, FFXnow reported, and that month the company was hiring for dozens of jobs in Fairfax County, according to its website. If you're on a notice tied to a contract change and Family First is still offered, applying early in the notice period leaves the most time for a placement to come through. If you're on a notice and weighing a placement against a job somewhere else, the two start dates are worth setting beside the notice's own date.

Peraton's notices haven't all carried its own name. The April 2021 notices came from Perspecta, which Peraton bought that May, and California's 2021-22 report lists that July's run as Perspecta Inc. dba Peraton Inc., while two 2025 Maryland notices and the Texas one went in under contract names such as Peraton Balloon Operations (NASA). If you're checking state WARN lists for your site, Perspecta and the contract's own name are worth trying beside Peraton's.

If you're on a Maryland notice, the state's labor department offers Rapid Response help for any layoff, from job search assistance to help with unemployment insurance claims and information on health coverage, according to its dislocation notices page. For the notices at Princess Anne, Woodlawn, Fort Meade, Reston and Camp Hill, nothing in the reporting we track, including WBOC and ABC27, names the contract involved or a company taking over the work. Peraton's notices since 2025 went to Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas, and you can check our Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas unemployment benefits pages, one for each of those states.

Perspecta said the whole Meridian site would close, and Peraton tied that closing to losing the Navy's NGEN contract to Leidos, BoiseDev reported.

Peraton layoff and severance questions

What severance has Peraton given laid-off employees?

No Peraton severance formula or dollar figure turns up in the press reports, Maryland's notice log or the 2021 merger proxy we examined. The one documented term was limited to Perspecta's continuing employees outside union contracts, for whom the buyer agreed, according to Perspecta's merger proxy, that severance benefits would be no less favorable than Perspecta's own plans for a year after the merger.

Are Peraton's WARN notices precautionary?

Peraton has called some of them that. In October 2025 its spokesperson told FFXnow and the Washington Business Journal that the company issues WARN notices in an abundance of caution, so staff hear early if a contract may end sooner than expected because of government funding uncertainty, and that the Reston notices could be rescinded before taking effect. The statement added that Peraton will comply with any final government direction.

What happened to Perspecta workers when the Navy NGEN contract went to Leidos?

In May 2021 Peraton said it was working with Leidos to move as many NGEN employees as possible before the end-of-July handover, that many could take similar jobs with Leidos, and that it expected most to be kept, BoiseDev reported. Leidos later told Washington Technology it had hired many of the Perspecta employees who worked the old contract.

How many layoff notices has Peraton filed since 2025?

Since the start of 2025, Peraton has seven filings covering 663 jobs in our WARN filings tracker, four in Maryland and one each in Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. Maryland's own 2026 log adds a newer one, dated October 16, 2026, for 26 jobs at a Fort Meade address.
