Laid off from Sarepta Therapeutics.

Sarepta Therapeutics has made deep cuts more than once, twice as AVI BioPharma and again in 2016 when it folded its Corvallis operations into Massachusetts. Its July 2025 cut, more than a third of the staff, was the deepest on record.

The most recent Sarepta Therapeutics layoff we've found

Of the $34.9 million in cash costs from Sarepta's July 2025 restructuring, most had been paid by December 31, 2025, and Sarepta's 10-K for 2025 carried the $0.8 million left unpaid as a liability.

What Sarepta Therapeutics layoffs have meant for employees

Sarepta framed the July 2025 cut as part of a restructuring to lower operating costs and meet its 2027 financial obligations, putting its siRNA assets first and reducing other research spending, according to the 10-K restructuring note for that year, which also records discontinued research programs. The layoffs, BioPharma Dive reported, reflected in part uncertainty about Elevidys, Sarepta's gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. If you're explaining a Sarepta layoff to a recruiter, a company-wide restructuring that dropped whole research programs is an account the company's own filings back, and explaining a layoff suggests ways to say it.

In July 2025 the notice period arrived as pay rather than time, at least for the executive whose letter Sarepta filed. Its WARN letter to Ohio is dated July 16 and names July 18 as the layoff date, the day the layoff letter for its chief customer officer ended his job, an exit its July 2025 8-K counts as part of the reduction in force. That letter paid him for the notice period whether or not he signed and tied severance to a release left unrevoked for seven days. The agreement gave him 45 days to decide, pointed to an exhibit giving ages and job titles for those in his decisional unit who were and weren't affected, and had him accept that no 2025 bonus was owed in exchange for the separation benefits. If you have a letter from that round, it may pay to separate what it pays regardless from what it pays only for a signature, and to check what it says about a 2025 bonus.

That notice pay covered more than wages. The letter's Exhibit A built it from a 60-day WARN payment plus, where they applied, the vacation and RSU vesting he'd have accrued from July 19 to September 16, 2025 and the 401(k) company match. For signing, Sarepta agreed to pay his full COBRA premium through July 17, 2026 if he elected coverage, and the letter offered outplacement if he started within four weeks. If your letter has an exhibit like that one, it shows which of those pieces went into the notice pay, and if you're deciding on COBRA, how COBRA works sets out the election.

In Ohio the cut went well past office jobs. The positions on Sarepta's Ohio list run from research associates and gene therapy scientists to animal care, vivarium and veterinary staff, alongside IT support and recruiters, and include some remote Ohio roles; the letter says no one on it had bumping rights or a union. If you're checking whether Sarepta listed your Ohio job, the enclosure goes title by title, which makes it a quick search.

Some earlier cuts moved people rather than ending their jobs. In 2008, as AVI BioPharma, the name it dropped in July 2012 according to its name-change filing, the company trimmed non-core staff in Oregon and North Carolina partly by relocating some and re-hiring others into vacant positions, its June 2008 release said. In 2016 some employees moved to Andover and Cambridge, a shift Sarepta's 10-K for 2016 ties to consolidating the Corvallis work in Massachusetts. If Sarepta has told you your job is ending, a move to another site is worth raising, since moves have been part of its cuts before.

For an unemployment claim, the three states where Sarepta's notices went, by our WARN tracker and the Ohio letter, have their rules at Massachusetts unemployment benefits, Ohio unemployment benefits and North Carolina unemployment benefits, and for any other state there's unemployment benefits by state.

What to do if you're laid off from Sarepta Therapeutics

Sarepta Therapeutics layoff and severance questions

What severance has Sarepta Therapeutics given laid-off employees?

The July 2025 cut's severance and related costs were $34.9 million, by the restructuring note in Sarepta's 10-K for 2025, though neither that note nor its July 2025 8-K gives a per-person formula. The layoff letter it filed for its chief customer officer paid 60 days' compensation and benefits in lieu of notice, signed or not, and offered severance of 43 weeks and 3 days of base salary only if he signed, didn't revoke and complied with the agreement. If you're offered a package, consider asking which parts require signing.

How many people did Sarepta Therapeutics lay off in 2025?

About 500, by the count in Sarepta's 10-K for 2025, all part of the reduction it announced on July 16, 2025. Sarepta's WARN letter to Ohio gave 493 as the total number of employees affected by the layoff on July 18.

How many WARN notices has Sarepta Therapeutics filed?

Both of the Sarepta filings in our WARN tracker trace to the July 2025 cut, one in Massachusetts naming Cambridge, Andover and Bedford with 493 jobs and one in Durham, North Carolina with 21. Ohio posted a third, Sarepta's letter dated July 16, 2025, which isn't among the tracker's filings, so at least three notices are on record. That letter puts the whole layoff's total at 493, the same figure as the Massachusetts filing.

What happens to my stock if I'm laid off from Sarepta Therapeutics?

The July 2025 layoff letter Sarepta filed for one executive says unvested options and restricted stock units revert at separation, though its notice pay adds the value of vesting due in the notice period. For options granted on Sarepta's 2026 plan form, the unvested part is forfeited on any exit but death unless an individual agreement says otherwise, and vested options stay exercisable for three months or until they expire, whichever is sooner. If you hold Sarepta options and your job is ending, each grant's exercise deadline is worth checking.
